“The Crackers”

— A tasty homage to the Christo Gates.

Are they putting any stones in Central Park John?

Since the installation of the sculpted granite “Cursing Stone” inscribed with a 16th century curse in one of Carlisle’s museums in 2001 misfortune has plagued the city.

This is what they plan on doing here in the United States. They want to rip down all of the Ten Commandments mouments and install new Cursing Stones. It must be some sort of atheist plan or something. You have people tearing down monuments, trying to beat the dollar into submission, some other nutcases doing God knows what in the name of who knows what. The Supreme Court has to listen to these people today. Maybe they’ll want to put a Cursing Stone at the Court next. Maybe they can get a hunk of stone and carve In Nothing We Trust on it and all go cashless. All I need now is a stiff drink on the rocks. These people would take the fun out of happy hour and stiff the bartender on the bar tab and tip. Have a drink for me.

The Crackers A tasty way to feed the hungry!
Christo Gates A big waste of money!

  3. Jim says:

Christophorus, the Porsche magazine, did a story about the Gates by Helge Bendl. According to the article, they refuse money from private sponsors and don’t accept public funding. The artist takes a financial risk with this sort of large public project. You can’t please everybody. The gates break the wall, but I guess they don’t break the bank. Maybe they do, but I hope it isn’t my bank. No damage was done from what I can determine. This is considered artrepreneurism. Maybe they have adventure capital. I guess they have a lot of charity for their critics. I wonder if the Gates lost money, made money or broke even. Art is a risky business for some folks. The world is full of risks. It’s the art of the deal that matters.

  4. Jim says:

$254 million was generated by visitors to the Central Park Gates installation. The Met pulled in a reported $4 million. If this was a big waste of money, New York needs to waste more money. The Gates paid for themselves and much more. They painted the Big Apple green! I love it and so did the push carters, cabbies and museums in NYC. Maybe they’ll have a Gates Act 2. Come to our city and help us waste some money!

    Christo forgot the peanut butter……

  6. Jim says:

Here’s a readers challenge. How much did the Christo Gates cost? In dollars and cents please. I’m getting reports of conflicting figures on the deal of the art. The Gates appear to be a better investment than many of the investments on Wall Street. Maybe a walk in the park is more profitable than a walk in the street. Perhaps more investors will dump stock and start investing in more art. Keep getting fat and happy, buy the art and dump the stock.
