ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Three young men previously detained as suspects in the 2005 disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway were re-arrested Wednesday, the Aruban public prosecutor’s office said, citing new evidence in the case.

Dutch teenager Joran van der Sloot and two Surinamese brothers, Satish and Deepak Kalpoe, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in manslaughter and causing seriously bodily harm that caused the death of the American teenager, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. “The public prosecutor’s office has ordered their renewed arrest because further investigation into the disappearance has led to new incriminating evidence,” the prosecutor’s office said in the statement. Van der Sloot was arrested in the Netherlands, where he is attending a university, and is expected to be extradited to Aruba. The Kalpoe brothers were arrested in Aruba.

Vinda de Sousa, an attorney for Dave Holloway, Natalee’s father, said she has left a message for the family but has not talked to them and is not privy to the new evidence. “I’m as excited as the Holloway family can be,” she said. “Anything new in this case, or any development, just gives you rekindled hope that one day this will be solved. I know the investigation never stopped.”

As someone who lived on a Caribbean island for many years, where the main industry is tourism, I took a special interest in this case. Crime is often swept under the rug for the perception of safety. As for Aruba police, its time to sh*t or get off the pot.

Unless they can get a confession or find the body, nothing will happen. I for one would love to see Joran van der Sloot go down for this. He strikes me as a spoiled brat who thinks he can get away with anything because of his father.

  2. Cinaedh says:

The words She’s back! in a headline above a photograph of a still missing and possibly dead teenager could be considered boorish, cruel, crude and tasteless, even with a qualification immediately following in brackets.

  3. McCullough says:

Cinaedh, you make a valid point. Thanks.

  4. braeken says:

Hopefully they have enough evidence this time. Having said that, I am also getting annoyed by all the rapports that she was am innocent little angel. Just earlier this week I heard that she was in rehab just before she went to Aruba.

  5. Lauren the Ghoti says:

If the girl’s mother – and pushy stepfather – especially the pushy stepfather – had taken their lawyers’ advice and shut TFU, these jokers would’ve already been in prison.

I seriously doubt they had any intention of killing her, it may very well’ve been the result of some idiotic accident; but if so, had they come clean instead of dummying / covering up, this circus would’ve never gotten off the ground. But now, no matter how she died, accidentally or no, their actions since have bought them the maximum sentence, for my money. The girl was an idiot for going off with these guys, but she mos’ def’ didn’t deserve to die for that mistake.

gquaglia – whatever juice that kid’s old man may have, the courts there don’t have our love of irrelevant technicalities, so I’d like to think they may stand a good chance of getting thrown under the jail…

  7. Phillep says:

I’m betting she was sold to white slavers for use as a whore in either South America or in one of the Moslem countries. All that publicity probably resulted in the slavers or pimp killing her and dumping the body.

Naw, they could sell to the Japanese, I heard that white, blonde, blue eyed girls like her sell for a steep price up there.

  9. Bryan Price says:

What possible new evidence can be brought up?

Forensic evidence? I don’t think so.

Witness testimony? After this long? Two years, and any attorney will have that testimony buried.

Another two years before we hear that the authorities arrest them again?

  10. Mr. Fusion says:

    #9, Bryan,

    Good points.

But I gotta love the attitude around here. One week everyone is screaming about the miscarriage of justice the Duke Lacrosse players got. The next week they are screaming for the head of someone just arrested. How these hypocrites can look in the mirror is beyond me.

But, let’s see, gq thinks they are guilty because one looks like a spoiled brat.
Braeken hopes they have enough evidence this time, as if they had any the last time.
Lauren even thinks they accidentally killed her, no evidence, yet enough to form conjecture.
Phillep thinks they sold her into slavery. Interesting though typical Republican fantasy.

  11. DeLeMa says:

Hmmph ! You have a problem with fantasy slavery, Mr. Fusion ? I want the cuffs back !

  12. the Three-Headed Cat says:

    Aah, Fusie?

    Fact: They were with her.
Fact: No one else was with her.
    Fact: She is dead.
:. (1)They were all involved with her death.

Fact: Their stories do not jibe
Fact: Their stories do not account for her death.
:. (2) Some or all of them are lying.

:. Some or all of them are culpable in her death.

In the Duke case, the accuser told what were obvious lies. There was no evidence against the accused. Therefore it was valid to conclude that they were innocent.

In this case, the suspects are the ones lying / concealing evidence. They are the only ones who could’ve killed her, and the obvious reason that their stories do not jibe is that they know, and are not telling, how she died, and that they are responsible for her death.

Their guilt is as obvious to any rational person who is neither gullible nor näive as the innocence of the Duke lacrosse team was. All that remains to discover are the details. But there can be no doubt, whether accidentally or deliberately, that they are responsible for her death.

:. You, Fusion, are either gullible, näive, or both. QED

I haven’t heard any evidence that she is dead. Lots of rumor.

    7/8
When I first heard of her disappearance, I for one felt strongly that she had been sold off into slavely as well. I still feel that today. That girl is no where on that island or around it.

  14. Cinaedh says:

    #3 McCullough

The new headline is a bit more prosaic but a lot less ‘freakily alarming’, if that’s an actual English phrase. Good call – and thanks from an old journalist.

  15. Mr. Fusion says:

    #12, Three headed Cat,

What you write is conjecture and circumstantial.

Your “fact” that no one else was with her makes the accused prove a negative. YOU prove no one else was with her. Then prove she is actually dead.

How do you know their stories do not “jibe”. I would be more worried if they were exact. FYI, people’s memories of events, especially if alcohol and or drugs are involved, is very sketchy. It all depends upon the person’s perception of the recalled event. And, of course their stories do not account for her death, because (a) you haven’t proven she is dead, (c) you haven’t proved they know anything about her disappearance, (d) you haven’t proved they know anything about her death, (e) you haven’t proven they killed her, and (f) you prove that the information released so far is accurate.

You claim the Duke case is different. No. It is the same attitude. A rush to judgment because the victim, police and prosecution never lie.

I don’t know if these three are guilty or not. The key word there is KNOW. Until you KNOW something is a fact then it is wrong to hold statement up as proof. This is the same attitude bible thumpers use to promote their own fairy tales. Until I KNOW all the facts, I will extend them the benefit of presuming their innocence.

Another Nancy Grace follower. Sheesh !!!

  16. James Hill says:

I always get a kick out of the white slavery line, because it plays on the fears of racism and kidnapping.

You guys should write for the Enquirer with that bullshit.

  17. Believer says:

    16
I am not quite sure why you are getting a kick out of it. It’s a very serious matter. Over 1,000,000 cases last year alone.

And I am not sure why you consider it racism, either. Just because it is called “white” doesn’t mean that it is only white women involved.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m wrong if she turns up dead on that island but I don’t think that is going to be the case here.
