There could hardly have been a bigger sensation if Russell Crowe, Rod Stewart or Sven-Goran Eriksson had come out of the closet. Millions of fans around the world are digesting the news that one of the main characters in the Harry Potter novels, Albus Dumbledore, is gay.

After reading briefly from her mega-selling book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, on Friday night, Rowling took questions from an audience of 1,600 students. A 19-year-old from Colorado asked about the avuncular headmaster of Hogwarts School: ‘Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?’

The author replied: ‘My truthful answer to you…I always thought of Dumbledore as gay.’ The audience reportedly fell silent – then erupted into prolonged applause.

All the Republikan candidates in DC, this weekend – kissing xhristian conservative butt – will have to come out against Harry Potter, now.

30 NSNB: They go together like rama-lama-lama-ka-ding-a-dading dong according to DUers… except when it suits their sexual politics as above.

    the whole series was gay

  3. Al says:

OH NO! The author of some children’s books has admitted that a fictional character, who has never had any intimate encounters throughout the series, is gay! What are we going to do! The world is going to end! The pope must be notified, and we must bring back the Roman Catholic Inquisition to deal with this devel-worshipping witch!

  4. RBG says:

Or alternatively, if we think the author is slyly foisting her personal political agenda upon us, just don’t buy her books… … doh!

#34 – Frankly… I’m just a little sick and tired of the other 99.9% of the books pushing their pro-heterosexual agenda down our throats too. Let’s just loot and burn all the Barnes and Nobles and end this madness now.

If it weren’t the religious right whack jobs passing on bigotry through through their kids, then Harry Potter wouldn’t have to teach a lesson about tolerance.

  6. RBG says:

    35. Likewise in the animal kingdom too. Something needs to be done about this.

    #36 – What’s your point?

  8. RBG says:

    37. That’s my remarkably entertaining, yet canny way of asking “what’s your point?” in a world dominated and consumed by the necessity of sexual reproduction. As if this is some kind of political or religious viewpoint to be given equal time along with each and every philosophy.

#38 – the necessity of sexual reproduction

You are right. There are only 6 and a half billion humans. Obviously we’ll die out if 1 in 20 of us turn out to be gay, so I guess we should stamp out any passing reference made to the possibility that gay isn’t bad or else the thunderous roar of the bigoted opposition might be squelched…

Your argument is even lamer than when Christians claim to be persecuted.

  10. RBG says:

I doubt any animal programmed for reproduction gives much thought about their species dying out in the process.

Kids have trouble enough coming to grips with sexuality without the need for unsolicited, superstitious beliefs in homosexuality clouding the issue for them as a valid option.

You didn’t hear the rest of Rowlings rant, Dumbledore had been a victim of the “homo convertere” spell cast by Abraxas Malfoy while Dumbledore was in his 7th year at Hogwarts.
