We need a few more Congressional portraits like this one

Sen. Larry Craig has been chosen for induction into the Idaho Hall of Fame, despite his well-publicized arrest and guilty plea in an airport sex sting, officials said.

Republican committeeman Phil Thompson said Idaho Hall of Fame officials should consider at least postponing the induction. “Maybe in 10 or 15 years we can think of this hall of fame stuff. Now is not the time,” he said. “It’s a sad day to be a Republican.”

Craig vowed Thursday to serve out the last 15 months of his term, despite a court ruling that left intact his guilty plea in the sex sting operation

Let’s hear it, again, for “family values” hypocrites!

  1. Steve S says:

“It’s a sad day to be a Republican.”?

Senator Craig’s bathroom shenanigans may be an embarrassment, but I can think of at least one other “Republican” that is personally responsible for the deaths of over 10,000 humans.

Now which act is more entitled to bring to mind the saying:
“It’s a sad day to be a Republican.”?

  2. gquaglia says:

I guess I can add Idaho to my list of the most fucked up states.

  3. Cinaedh says:

Watching this guy on TV for about ten seconds suggested he’s one of the lowest, scummy politicians on the face of the planet. I wonder how much he (more likely the taxpayers) paid for this “honor”?

  4. Awake says:

There is a typo in the news item.. it should read:

“… inducted into the hall of infamy.”

What a sad pathetic life this guy leads… getting blowjobs from strangers in public bathrooms… and the Republicans dared judge Clinton for his sexual behavior.

  5. OvenMaster says:

“It’s a sad day to be a Republican”?

I’d say with Congressjerks like this one, it’s a sad day to be an American, never mind the political party!

  6. tikiloungelizard says:

I think they should use the mug shots as the official portrait. I don’t think his act was anything awful, I just think that his hypocrisy towards people who are gay is what is awful. Must be a huge amount of mental disconnect and self-loathing going on there.

  7. Greymoon says:

If I were one of the other people being inducted I would refuse the offer. I would also throw a press conference explaining why being inducted into a Hall of Fame along with a convicted pervert is not an honor.

This would be the proper action to take. Lets see what Gov. Butch Otter, Lt. Gov. Jim Risch, Boise State University football coach Chris Petersen and John Grossenbacher, director of the Idaho National Laboratory nuclear and energy research center decide to do.

  8. moss says:

I think #6 has it just right. I’d rather vote for George Michael than choose some opportunist hypocrite. Of course, the reason lying creeps like Craig get elected and re-elected is the voting public who know they’re being lied to and accept that as a reasonable standard.

  9. Gary Marks says:

#4 Awake, I had a different idea for the typo. I thought that “inducted” (into the hall of fame) should have read “indicted” instead, but yours works too 😉

And his mug shots should also include a good photo of his “wide stance” as well, just so we can recognize it if we see it. Of course, nothing is quite so wide as the gulf between voting against gay rights legislation and then actively “campaigning” (wink, wink) with a guy he’s never met, in the next stall at the airport. Maybe that’s the true basis of his objection to gay marriage — he thinks gay sex should be anonymous instead of monogamous.

  10. John Paradox says:

When does he get his Medal of Freedom from Dubya?

    J/P=?

  11. Angel H. Wong says:

“Senator Craig’s bathroom shenanigans may be an embarrassment, but I can think of at least one other “Republican” that is personally responsible for the deaths of over 10,000 humans.”

But then again, we are talking about Republicans and to these folk an orgasm is more disgusting than a genocide.

  12. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

I’d rather vote for George Michael

    Vote for Pedro.

  13. Matthew says:

Imagine that creepy jerk peering into your bathroom stall.

  14. Glenn E says:

2.- “I guess I can add Idaho to my list of the most fucked up states”

I was stuck living there in 1976, for three years. And it seems that every couple of years they find a way to get themselves in the news again. Like some kind of bad penny, they keep turning up to haunt me. And it’s usually screwball stories like, “man finds gold under his house” or some such drivel. Whatever it takes to get in the news, they do it. The state is suppose to have more millionaires per capita than any other state. Even more than Texas. Which is another one that likes being in the news as often as possible. I always put that down to Dan Rather’s influence. But I guess all those rich Idahoans feel slighted if they don’t see their state in the news now and then. Even if it’s for something major league stupid, like this blog’s feature item. In this case its probably as one past US president once said, “”he may be a bastard but he is our bastard”. Idahoans can at least be proud that they’re in the news once more. And as usual, it’s for something dumb. What a bunch of nuckleheads.

  15. RBG says:

Please, let there be tolerance. Not all homosexuals are like this.

    RBG

  16. iGlobalWarmer says:

Not all Republicans are like this
Not all gays are like this
Not all Idahoans are like this
Not all Democrats are sacks like Clinton

This is just one lowlife hunkering down in a wide stance and trying to hold on to his seat of power

  17. Mr. Fusion says:

    #11, Angel,

    Very good point.

    #16, iHotAir(YOP),

Except for the political jab, I agree.

  18. iGlobalWarmer says:

#17 – See #4. I dare to judge Clinton just as I dare to judge Craig as individuals responsible for their own behavior

  19. Mr. Fusion says:

    #18, iHotAir(YOP)

Then are you referring to Clinton being a sack of gold for the prosperity he brought to this country? Not what I expected from you but I accept it.

  20. iGlobalWarmer says:

Clinton brought us blowjobs that aren’t sex. What you’re referring to would happened no matter who was POTUS: dot-com boom.

  21. Frank IBC says:

the Republicans dared judge Clinton for his sexual behavior.

    Wrong, “Awake”.

Clinton was not impeached for receving fellatio, nor for adultery. He was impeached for having an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, getting her another job in an effort to keep her quiet about it, and perjuring himself when testifying on this.

Why is this so hard to understand?

  22. Frank IBC says:

    Mr. Fusion –

I think you meant to say “bubble”, not “sack”. WorldCom, PSINet, Adelphia, pets.com, excite@home, Enron, Global Crossing…

  23. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#22 – Why is this so hard to understand?

    Because it isn’t true?

  24. Frank IBC says:

So I guess the letters “P-E-R-J-U-R-Y” are pronounced “blowjob” on Planet OFTLO?
