A federal judge has tossed out part of a 2001 order by President George W. Bush that lets former presidents keep some of their presidential papers secret indefinitely.

“The Bush Order effectively eliminated the archivist’s discretion to release a former president’s documents while such documents are pending a former president’s review, which can be extended — presumably indefinitely,” Kollar-Kotelly wrote in a 38-page ruling.

Meredith Fuchs, general counsel for the National Security Archive, said the court had avoided “the hard questions” about the role former presidents, former vice presidents, and their heirs can play when it comes to disclosure of presidential records.

“Unless the executive order is reversed or withdrawn, decisions about the release of records from this administration may ultimately be made by the Bush daughters,” Fuchs said in a statement.

Anyone presume they will care any more about an informed electorate than daddy has?

Does that mean Hillary’s papers will be released before the election?

  2. MikeN says:

Just because the judge doesn’t like it, he’s going to throw out an executive order? There’s plenty of others I would like to throw out too. How about the one stating that government mustmake documents available in all languages,13166?

Of course! In spite of what Dumbya’s handlers would have the citizenry believe, the president is not above the law. Especially not a moronic one like Dumbya.

Bush Jr pushed that through before he had any papers to keep secret, and right after that first private meeting he had with Clinton, the one he left looking like he had just been kicked in the balls and Clinton doing his “I love power” strut and smirk.

My take? Clinton has something on Bush Sr, and told Bush Jr to play nice or daddy gets it.

That law mainly benefited Clinton and/or Bush Sr, at the time of passage.

I’m betting the Clinton library is setting up an incinerator, right now.

#2 – Just because the judge doesn’t like it, he’s going to throw out an executive order?

Yes… Because this president’s incredible one two punch of corruption and incompetence demonstrates a nation’s nightmare scenario, which underscores the absolute need for our system of checks and balances and for governmental transparency.

Bush will not likely stand before the Hague, but at least with rulings like this maybe the truth of what has happened over the last 7 years may some day come to light.

  6. Jennifer says:

#2, that’s the judge’s job- checks and balances and all that.

  7. Phillep says:

Blast. “Executive order”, not “law”, which makes Bush Jr protecting Clinton even more likely.

  8. Mike says:

Pity that the judge didn’t say a similar thing about the documents Bush Senior keeps secreted away in his ‘private library’, you know, the ones that document exactly what Bush did when he was supposed to be in the Texas air guard thing to escape the draft.
