This quack set the standard
New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said on Monday his office has subpoenaed Facebook, accusing the social networking site of not keeping young users safe from sexual predators and not responding to user complaints.
In recent weeks, N.Y. state investigators have went undercover to test Facebook’s safety controls and procedures, posing as underage users. The investigators were solicited by adult sexual predators and could access pornographic images and videos, Cuomo said.
Cuomo’s subpoena came amid a joint 50-state investigation into Facebook, News Corp’s MySpace Web site and other online social networks. Such sites have come under scrutiny over concerns they may fall short in protecting young users.
Connecticut’s AG, Richard Blumenthal told Reuters in July that his office had learned of at least three convicted sex offenders who were on Facebook’s Web site, adding that that number may be the “tip of the iceberg.”
You probably could find more than three perverts wandering the streets within 10 blocks of Blumenthal’s office on Elm Street in Hartford. But – Cuomo and Blumenthal and other political “lawmen” – hope their defense of children, family and the American Way will eventually get them to the White House.
If a kid is abducted from a public park, can we sue the city for not doing enough to protect the children from predators?
These attorney generals have been out of control for awhile, trying to make policy through lawsuits. They sued to try and implement the Kyoto Treaty for global warming. And before that they sued over tobacco, and I think they even tried gun control. Next they’ll sue over trans-fats and junk food. Then they’ll push car makers to make seat belts mandatory or something.
This is an easy one… at least a dozen registered sex offenders with 10 blocks of the Connecticut AG’s office. Five of them registered for offenses against children.
Pretty good, MikeN – you’re almost up to 1984. Only 23 years of reading to catch up on.
Whatever happened to “personal responsibility” in this country, let alone “personal responsibility” Republicans…
(Yes, I know this guy is a Democrat.)
Ironic that the lawyers themselves are usually the perverts. After a certain senator got caught in a bathroom stall trying to pick up a hunky cop we are all wondering about the GOP being the legitimate torch bearer for morality.
Whats the “exact” law being violated here?
Failure to respond to customer complaints?===as in every business in GOUSA, every governmental agency—hellooo?
The children have more to fear from the politicians than the web sites. I say we ban all politicians from being alone with children. That should help.
Also known as the bill that allows parents to suck at parenting.
Dont want your kids to get “predatorized”? get rid of the internet connection at home. Its that simple.
will it happen? nope.
I stopped reading at “have went.”
This is a joke right?
Microsoft can’t buy a stake in Facebook too soon…
From the article,
“It appears that Facebook has not significantly altered its representations about safety and inappropriate content on the site,” said Cuomo.
“It does not have the right to represent that its site is safe and that it promptly responds to complaints when such statements are not accurate.”
As the top law enforcement officer, can Cuomo make that statement about walking down any New York city street? Are they investigating every city park to weed out pedophiles, rapists, thugs, or murderers?
I just spent two days fixing a computer filled with malware. When I returned it, I admonished the mother that her kids should stay away from dangerous sites. So she asked me, “How can you tell up front if it is dangerous? ” OK, so how do you tell if someone is a predator up front? Second, how will you keep someone who has completed his sentence from going on-line?
