Vilson Alushi had vowed to burn his fish-delivery van if Albania failed to win a point against the Netherlands on Wednesday. Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy put paid to his hopes with a goal in injury time to end the game 1-0.
Alushi duly doused his car with gasoline in the centre of the southern town of Delvine and watched indifferently as his friends alerted the firefighters, newspapers reported.
They arrived promptly on the scene and unreeled the hose, only to find it was dry. It seems that residents living near the fire station had drained the tank to help them cope with Albania’s chronic water shortage.
I’m not certain which is dumber: fans who set their vans alight or citizens who steal water from the fire station?
I watched the match. Hardly anyone dumber than fans who throw fireworks at players, either.
and soccer isn’t even an interesting sport.
*ducks*
If you think soccer is boring, trying watching cricket….
Cricket nothing! Try Curling!
This weekend i’m painting tha ceilings… so watching paint dry comes to mind…
It certainly an athletic sport, far more so than most North American popular sports. The only things close to being as grueling are basketball (lotza running, but a nice smooth court, not a coarse hard field) and hockey (hickory sticks, steel blades, a hard plastic projectile, checking, a sport that inevitably results in missing teeth, and so on). Boxing and martial arts don’t count, ’cause that’s just beating the shit outta somebody (Carlin).
#5, remember American sport is designed to be like American sex: short and abrupt – lots of commercials telling you how great you are.
