With a new product called Photoshop Express, Adobe Systems is coming through on its promise to deliver a lightweight online version of Photoshop. At the Photoshop World conference on Thursday in Las Vegas, John Loiacono, senior vice president of Adobe’s Creative Solutions Business Unit, briefly demonstrated Photoshop Express and gave some details on how it is intended to work.
In February, Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen told CNET News.com that the company was planning an online version of Photoshop for release within three to six months. Chizen said the product was meant to appeal to consumers and to compete with free and other low-end image-editing tools, such as Google’s Picasa.
The product is aimed at consumers rather than professional photographers and is designed to complement existing products Photoshop Creative Suite 3 and Photoshop Elements, according to company executives.

So what? My phone is great when I am connected to the phone network, not so much when Im not. Electricity is great when I am connected to the power grid, not so much when Im not.
What is your point? We are talking about a category of user here that is editing pictures to post on their webpage… So if their internet is broken, it is not like they are missing anything.
This products seems like little more than proof of concept. It does look interesting though.
Oh, great, more PR for Adobe’s OVERPRICED, OVERRATED, POOR-UI products.
I hope that DRM-infested, craptacular Flash and DRM-infested, unnecessary Silverlight leave Adobe and Microsoft in a bloodbath.

Same way they’ve always done: they are patient and wait. Sooner or later, everyone who has pirated PS (or used some silly free version) will pay for it, because it’s their software of choice, and they either get fed up with the pirate-copy upgrade shuffle, or the company they work for just picks up the tab.
At least this way they get ad revenue due to users who would never have ponied up for legit versions of the software in the 1st place.
I’ve said for years they need a midgrade version of PS for about $100. Elements is too crippled to be useful – its barely more than MS photo editor.
As long as theres no in between version people will continue to steal photoshop in order to use 10% of its features.
This is NOT Photoshop, and has little to no relationship to the real Photoshop application. It is more like Picassa.
Any photo editing tool by Adobe carried the Photoshop prefix, so you have CS3, Elements, Lightroom, all of which have Photoshop in front of them.
Uh… this is called Photoshop Express.
Try doing this on the online version!

Good points. Also I would add that it gives exposure of their products to many people that would otherwise never try them. Many (or even most) digital camera users are still using the editing software that came with their camera.
Adobe didn’t get so big by being stupid.
Nice idea from Adobe, but it will be beneficial to them, who have decent internet connection.
I for years have thaught that Adobe made its money off books. I am willing to bet they sell many more copys of there books then they have reg users of there software.
Now everybody will be able to remove things suchs as birthmarks, scars, acne scars, butt pimples and those protruding rolls of fat women have when they think wearing TIGHT miny shirts and low cut jeans mix well with their red brazillian thongs.
