This guy’s friend is on a carrier in the Gulf, preparing for the first strike in what sounds like all out war with Iran. It also sounds like there’s a lot of people there who normally are all gung-ho, but for the first time in their lives are questioning the thinking (if any) of the civilian leadership. Sure, you can’t have soldiers questioning orders so they are replaced, but it sounds like the quantity of them is increasing rapidly. In other countries, you’d be wondering if somewhere along the chain of command there would be at least a few thinking coup. But this is the good, ol’ US of A, and we do what we’re told, damnit!

I have a friend who is an LSO on a carrier attack group that is planning and staging a strike group deployment into the Gulf of Hormuz. (LSO: Landing Signal Officer- she directs carrier aircraft while landing) She told me we are going to attack Iran. She said that all the Air Operation Planning and Asset Tasking are finished. That means that all the targets have been chosen, prioritized, and tasked to specific aircraft, bases, carriers, missile cruisers and so forth.
“I know this will sound crazy coming from a Naval officer”, she said. “But we’re all just waiting for this administration to end. Things that happen at the senior officer level seem more and more to happen outside of the purview of XOs and other officers who typically have a say-so in daily combat and flight operations. Today, orders just come down from the mountaintop and there’s no questioning. In fact, there is no discussing it. I have seen more than one senior commander disappear and then three weeks later we find out that he has been replaced. That’s really weird. It’s also really weird because everyone who has disappeared has questioned whether or not we should be staging a massive attack on Iran.”
“I don’t think it’s limited at all. We are shipping in and assigning every damn Tomahawk we have in inventory. I think this is going to be massive and sudden, like thousands of targets. I believe that no American will know when it happens until after it happens. And the consequences…whatever the consequences…they will have to be lived with.

Pedro, you might want to point people to the evidence that the military is building up forces in the gulf and not just bluffing their way through a game of international poker (like it has been doing for about two years). The only site that I have seen to run the information of alleged leaks are less than credible sources like the Raw Story. Again, it is an interesting read, makes for a wonderful conspiracy but there are at least a dozen papers for strategic plans to invade *insert your favorite country here* during the next year or so. It just isn’t very bloody likely.
Most of us do believe select members of his administration would love to bomb Iran. A lot of us fail to see a connection between the usual political rhetoric and actual action. It is simply a way of keeping their constituents happy (i.e. the radical right).
Where is that United States constitutional amendment against gay marriage? Like all politicians, Mr. Bush promises a lot and delivers only what he believes will give him leverage with the American public.
I don’t believe a president with a 30% approval rating is capable of this kind of action. He is not riding the high of 9|11, and another terrorist attack is not coming to save what is left of his failed political career. If he wants to save face, he needs to work on his political policies (in both domestic and international) arena and discontinue his delusional, never ending war on terrorism.
My concern is not based upon this useless anecdote, but rather upon reports in fairly credible UK and Canadian newspapers and the presidents own words. In case you missed it, this is a fairly good synopsis.

It’s also worth noting that people who’s judgement was validated when it came to the true state of Iraq’s weaponry a few years back are now concerned that the crazies are advocating this crazy thing. Mohamed ElBaradei’s objection garnered this defense of the bomb iran types from the perpetually wrong boot-licker,Fred Hiatt.

People don’t react like that unless they are hiding something. A true crazy take-over might explain the sudden departure of so many Bush officials; some things are too crazy even for Gonzo and Snow-job.

Really? It’s all an anti-Bush conspiracy?
It was an anti-Clinton conspiracy when complaints came in that F-16’s were flying too high over Bosnia whilst bombing, causing “innocent” casualties and making the military look like a bunch of baby-killers. Of course, that was part of the Clinton philosophy of “we don’t really need a military, do we? so let’s make it look bad when they attempt anything”.
So… it just has to be a conspiracy when Bush — and many of his supporters — are discussing what should be done about Iran now that it has been “proven” that Iran has some connection to Iraq, vis a vis The Terrorists.

I don’t believe this story. It is very wrong about carriers and aircraft combos. The more I looked at it the more made up it seemed and the DailyKos take-apart is a nice and simple job which makes good sense. This story has wrong facts and seems fictional, even in story-telling style.
There is a fanciful narrative with buzz word terms plugged in but in a few places there are some real popcorn-throwing blown “facts.” If I were watching a TV show I would be laughing and shouting out the dumb things the writer(s) get wrong.

If you look hard enough and have a little imagination, one may twist anything into a conspiracy. If you claim X happened, I’m quite sure there are enough people out there that can scream hellya along with you.
The two articles you linked to are opinion pieces. Opinion makes for great reading, but only serves the author’s opinions, not necessarily the facts.
The facts remain, the military WON’T preemptively attack. Only Congress can authorize a war and there is no way in hell the military will acquiesce to attacking Iraq without Congressional approval. The Admirals and Generals know this and don’t want their careers ruined with being a Traitor charge. Their pay grade knows the difference between a lawful and unlawful order.

That’s why I had to call bullshit on the dailykos article. I can’t substantiate any of the claims but I can sniff out unsupported claims.
There is no way the Bush admin. is going for an all out war with Iran when we have so many other options. I expect to see this kind of foolishness from Kos kids… pathetic.
