White House pranksters wrapped Rove’s Jaguar in plastic wrap on the private driveway next to the West Wing.
Rove’s car is easily recognizable because of its “I love Barack Obama” bumper sticker and the twin stuffed-animal eagles on the trunk. Oh, and there’s a stuffed-animal elephant on the hood.
Rove…left his car on the driveway while visiting Texas and traveling with President Bush. He’s due back in Washington, this evening.

Stephen Colbert did this as a way to protect Rove from vandals that would harm his vehicle. It’s like a giant Jaguar condom. The eagles are there to scare any other birdlife from otherwise defacing the paint job. The “I love Barack Obama” placard is to fool any Liberal hooligans into thinking that the car was one of theirs. Therefore leaving it alone, moving onto Hilary’s VW Hippie Peace wagon that was decorated to look like W’s Hummer.
#1 Actually, there is a lot of US content in that particular model (S type). The engine is from the Lincoln LS made in Ohio. Tranny is vintage Ford (makes that whine sound). Now, my Jag is 60% uk and 40% gemany but then I don’t work for the govt 🙂

Regardless, any American leader who prefers to buy a foreign made car when there are many comparable cars made in America is just plain wrong. It demonstrates the contempt for American workers held by Republicans.

Most people on this blog list Republicans as the ones buying all those pickup trucks, made in America. Meanwhile, the Priuses are driven by Democrats.
#16 – Bear in mind that many, many ‘American’ cars are built elsewhere, and many foreign cars are actually built in America. Also, the domestic content counts for a lot here…Toyota Camry’s, Honda Accords and various others are not only built in America, but have well over 80% domestic content as well (meaning, the parts are sourced in America as well).
I had this argument with a GF’s father once…he was proud of his Ford Crown Vic as it was a great example of buying American (especially because it is a yestertech behemoth in the mold of 70’s junkers). I pointed out to him that it is built in Canada and only 17% of the parts are sourced from the US.
His response? Well, at least the money stays here, unlike with Honda…which goes against the whole argument of supporting American workers, but whatever, he’s wrong about that, too. Honda America is a whole US based operation (with design and engineering arms as well as sales, marketing and various other groups), and the money from the Hondas built here is reinvested here. I imagine Toyota has a similar set up.
So just remember, your ‘American car’ might very well have been built in Canada, Mexico (well, those are still on an American continent) or elsewhere (Australia, Korea, Japan).
#16 – #17 – I for one support American workers and value American made products. That’s why I buy Toyota.
They should have wrapped it in smegma, and let it sit in the sun, but who knows what’s underneath the plastic.
