A conundrum for sure. Is it arson to burn something that was built to be burned? As if the Burning Man festival wasn’t (and always has been) controversial on many levels already.

Burning Man Torched Early; Artist Held

Burning Man became Burnt Man four days early on Tuesday, and a San Francisco performance artist was arrested on suspicion of igniting the signature figure of the counterculture festival in the remote Nevada desert.

The early morning fire scorched about 85 percent of the structure, Burning Man spokeswoman Andie Grace said. Event engineers decided it would be best to dismantle it and rebuild a less elaborate version, accomplishing in two days what normally takes weeks so the figure would be finished in time for Saturday night’s scheduled burning, she said.

The approximately 40-foot-tall wood and neon structure was supposed to go up in flames in the ceremonial climax of the weeklong annual event. Burning Man, an art, music and performance festival that draws thousands of people, began in San Francisco in 1986 and moved to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert in 1990.

Arsonist… or something

I think I got it, how to put an image.

    [img src=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Absinthe-glass.jpg“]

  2. Mark Derail says:

    Getting closer . . .

  3. Mark Derail says:

Hmm, this works on other WordPress sites…

  4. OmarTheAlien says:

The guy was an artist, maybe he was just doing “improv”.
Absinthe, that’s the liquorice tasting stuff I drank in the Med, (France?) back in my Navy days? Cool stuff, from what I can remember. I think they made it on an island just off Toulon, which was one of the places we visited. Then there was that Ouzou (?) from Greece, hell, I don’t don’t know. I was no connosiuer (I know, spelling, screw it), but tended to swill just about anything I could lay my hands on. Young, sailor, etc.

Mark in #31 had it almost right. Use “< " and ">” instead of “[” and “]” just like the other items list just above where you enter your comments.

Also, VERY IMPORTANT — if the image is wider than 370 pixels, add
    width=”370″
inside the ending greater than sign so it doesn’t screw up the page and it fits inside the column.

  7. Mark Derail says:

    So if this works…Absinthe !!!!!!!!!!

  8. Mark Derail says:

    I…must…succeed…!

So I’m doing [IMG SRC=”http://www.dmib.com/i/headr.gif” WIDTH=”300″] replacing the [ ] with the appropriate less than / greater than.

    1

    2

    3

    4

  9. Uncle Dave says:

#41: Read my description in #38.

Not sure what you 1-4 is. Except for the img statement in brackets there’s none in less than, greater than brackets. So, here is your image formated properly.

  11. Uncle Dave says:

For some reason, your image won’t display and I can’t figure out how to print the command without it actually trying to display it. Try only using jpg’s.

  12. Lauren the Ghoti says:

    Mark –

LESS THANimg src=” IMAGE URL WITHIN QUOTES ” width=”370″ SLASH • GREATER THAN

    Try it, you’ll like it…

  13. Mark Derail says:

    Wasn’t putting a slash at the end…hmm
IOW a valid html url !

So if it worked, we see a glass of Absinthe, which is green, not to be confused with Greek Ouzo – which tastes like liquorish and is clear in color.

Usually Ouzo is served in shot glasses, with a coffee grain floating on top, then lit on fire. Then one big swallow!

  14. Uncle Dave says:

I’ve hijacked your last post, Mark, since while I can edit comments, I can’t post new ones here at work.

Here is an image showing the syntax using Lorin’s image.

FYI, the slash at the end is added by wordpress automatically if you don’t put it in. It shouldn’t be needed.

  15. Mark Derail says:

LoL’ing here…that’s exactly how I entered it. Previously without the ending slash. Trying it now posting w/IE7, wraps differently.

The idea of putting an image print screen is good, I’m going to do the same, and putting the image on my server.

[I’m not sure what’s going on. In some cases, the system seems to be stripping out the image line.

“It’s a temporary community dedicated to art, experience and self expression culminating in a cathartic burn.”

In other words: Completely inconsequential waste of time.

  17. Mark Derail says:

iGlobalWarmer – waste of time – To them, it’s a vacation.

iGlobalWarmer Can you try linking a picture in a post?

Uncle Dave *sniff* why me? How come Lauren can?

‘Cause Jeebus loves me, that’ s why! 😉
