One of these days, either a car is gonna get flattened or someone is going to bite a Goodyear.

  2. That was amazing!

I’m just wondering what would happen if someone welded a large pipe to the frame of a car and parked right under it. Very dangerous stuff… stil stunning though.

  3. tikiloungelizard says:

If they’re gonna land the jumbos at this little strip, they might wanna consider lengthening the runway with some more landfill. The Dutch are good at adding more land to the sea, right?

  4. BubbaRay says:

Ha! I’ve done a snap roll over that beach just before landing at that airport. [Disclaimer — the previous statement is an entire work of fiction, and in no way is any admission of violation of FAA rules or regulations].

What a break, back then no one had camera phones. Hahahaha.

My logbook has been shredded and all tower personnel have “mysteriously disappeared” [or have been plied with free drinks].

    Aerobatic 737?

  6. Mr. Fusion says:

Close counts in horse shoes, hand grenades, and a good shave. Landing airplanes isn’t on the list.

  7. Richard says:

I have been to that beach. Actually stayed at the hotel right next to it and those landings and take-off are a blast. I have seen people blown into the sea

  8. OmegaMan says:

#7 People get blown into the sea on most any beach…

Thank God there are still morons in this world who will flock to any extreme / life threatening event and record it. You guys truly are the real stars of Youtube.

    Keep up the good work!

    #5, “Aerobatic 737?”

Now that *would* be cool. I’ve seen Bob Hoover barrel roll a King Air, but I’d love to see someone roll a three-seven!!

There’s nothing like an open cockpit biplane, like a Stearman with the R-985 450 hp radial. Enough torque so that you can literally flip the plane on takeoff if you’re not careful with the throttle. 🙂 Nice view of the island, too. I still have no idea how someone managed to ferry that plane over so much water….

  11. George says:

I never quite understood the problem of the Dash80 roll. He put the plane in a constant 1G roll. The plane never felt any additional stress, the fuel pickups never sucked air.

There’s a video floating around of him pouring a glass a water while doing a roll. Doesn’t spill a drop. Amazing.

  12. BubbaRay says:

Bob Hoover used to put a glass of water on the cockpit “dashboard”, and barrel roll just about anything. The water level never moved.

And no, I’ve *never* barrel rolled a Cessna 310 at 210 knots. Nah. (But the glass stayed full).

A snap roll is maneuver that is very quick and violent. It’s basically a horizontal one-turn spin where one wing “stalls” (loses lift) and the other keeps flying. The trick is to “unstall” the correct wing just in time to level out. Freaks passengers right out of their lunch! Maybe 1.5 seconds if you’re good (and the plane can take it).
