More than 190,000 AK-47 assault rifles and pistols distributed to Iraqi forces by the US are missing, feared fallen into the hands of insurgents, a congressional watchdog warned.
The highest previous estimate of missing weapons was 14,000. A new report from the government accountability office (GAO), however, said US military officials did not know what had happened to 30% of the weapons the US had given to Iraqi forces since 2004.
Although it is the state department that usually operates security assistance programmes, the Pentagon is managing the equipment programme for Iraqi forces.
The defence department said the change allowed for more flexibility. But as of last month, it was unable to tell the GAO which accountability procedures, if any, applied to arms distributed to Iraqi forces.
Isn’t it a bit naive to rely on the Bush Administration for accountability in any aspect of their governance?
Or perhaps they’ve been bought by an arms dealer…

The Russians would love to have these arms destroyed. Between them and China giving the things away, they now have few markets for their weapons. Russia makes some excellent combat arms, but can’t sell the things.

Forget the weapons that are missing, what about all the Iraqi figher planes the Iraqi air force had. There were over 800 of them and they mysteriously vanished before the US ever landed there. I wonder what fundamentalist group is sitting on those waiting for a opportune time to launch an attack somewhere. Also what about the 3 747 decommissioned passenger jets that mysteriously vanished in desert of Africa a few years back. You can bet these morons hell bent on jihad are assembling quite a nice collection of toys to play with.
None of these stories were ever picked up by the mainstream press and most recieved only a mention elsewhere. Folks there is something going on and what ever it is 9/11 will look like a picnic in the park on a sunday afternoon. Oh and don’t forget the 150 or so small suitcase nukes that also vanished in Russia some years back as well.
And lets not forget when the US was overthrowing Baghdad the jihadi’s were in the desert burying tons of Iraqi military hardware and every bit of it was covered up by the gov, thats right! Good ol Uncle Sam. And if you think they know where it is, Guess What? They haven’t got a clue. It could be right under their nose and they;d never know!
For the life of me I can’t understand no matter how hard I try how so few can lie to so many and get away with it time after time after time. Over and over and over. I’m just baffled by it all and no one says a word about it. It just blows me away!
I propose that treason against the United States be redefined to include gross incompetence of the sort involved in the conduct of this war.

Ok im in Iraq right now and What I see is We supply The IA and IP with weapons, radios, ammo, Armor, and Chevy trucks out the yin jang. The problem is when they get stuff from us the checkpoint or IP station mysteriously gets attacked and overran. There are no casualties to speak of but all the equipment is gone. Blame bush if you want.

Those are just the missing guns.
Don’t forget that we are also intentionally arming all three sides so they can ‘defend themselves’ against each other.
Those weapons don’t count as ‘lost’ because we actually put them into the hands of militias intentionally.
But all is not lost, since according to the White House, the ‘surge’ is working just fine. There was less US soldiers killed last month than the previous month. Too bad they conveniently forget to tell you the full story:
