On Cover of Time Magazine. Hidden message?

A long-time reader noted that Time Magazine uses the silhouette of a RUSSIAN chopper and chimes in about the gaffe:
“This may interest you… I received my copy of Time magazine today, the cover depicts a helicopter pulling a Stars and Bars clad “A” for the word “IRAQ” obviously attempting to imply America leaving Iraq, only problem is the helicopter is clearly a Russian MIL-24 HIND !!

Since this is such an obvious mistake, perhaps Time is insinuating that President Bush has been crawling under Putin’s desk all these years in an attempt to garner favor to bail us out of his latest and greatest disaster.”

  1. Peter Rodwell says:

Obviously the withdrawal from Iraq has been outsourced to a Russian subsuduary of Haliburton.

  2. Jägermeister says:

Reminds me of the Russian Border Guards ad:

  3. Heimdall says:

“Since this is such an obvious mistake, perhaps Time is insinuating that President Bush has been crawling under Putin’s desk all these years in an attempt to garner favor to bail us out of his latest and greatest disaster.”

Yes, that’s a MUCH more likely explanation than, say, some graphic designer who knows jack about the military equipment of ANY country just doing a Google image search for helicopters and grabbing whichever one he or she thought looked best.

  4. Yes, it is a vast conspiracy to deliver hidden messages. Count the stars in the “A” for message number two.

  5. Jägermeister says:

#4 [JCD] – Count the stars in the “A” for message number two.

Are you implying that the seven dwarfs are behind this?

  6. Mr. Fusion says:

Your reader might know his helicopters, but he doesn’t know his flags. That does not in any way represent a “Stars and Bars”. That term is reserved for what is also referred to as th “Confederate Flag”. The official flag of the United States uses stripes, not bars.

  7. BobH says:

    Odd Observation:

The HIND was the helicopter most feared by the mujahadein in Afghanistan prior to the CIA outfitting the tribal forces with Stinger missiles. The Soviet pilots soon learned to fly outside the range of the shoulder fired weapon championed by Texas congressman Charlie Wilson — or get blown out of the sky. Losing the HIND’s ability to wreak havoc on the nascent Taliban (including Osama Bin Laden) led in large measure to the decision by Moscow to abandon Afghanistan.

It has been posited Afghanistan was where jihadists realized it was possible to defeat a super power. Talk about blowback from a covert operation!

Look for the film “Charlie Wilson’s War” featuring Tom Hanks in the role of the Lone Start Rep as it’s allegedly in production now.

  8. edwinrogers says:

The Hind is a favourite amongst east european mercenaries and private security personnel, so I expect the message it conveys, if any was intended, is that a mercenary deployment is replacing the US Army. Not that I believe that could ever happen.

  9. The Russian helicopter is taking away the “A” leaving a hole behind in “IR Q”. PUTIN IS CALLING BUSH AN A-HOLE!
