You made a smart choice in choosing an iPod. And now you can protect it from theft and still enjoy using it in public with the new Hide-a-Pod anti-theft case.
It’s really very simple. Just tell us what iPod model you want to protect and we provide a gutted and hinged Zune with our custom molded iPod casing adapter. We also include a custom cable from the Zune’s controls (see FAQ) and audio output jack that you simply plug into your iPod. No iPod modifications are necessary.
So you have a shiny new iPhone? It needs protection too. But there’s no need to be concerned, because Hide-a-Pod is ready to serve. Just like the iPod version, you connect one simple cable and you’ll still have access to all the great features of your device. And just think, for the first time the Zune will have Wifi that is actually useful.
Tee hee. I don’t own either of these critters. In fact, I don’t own an mp3 player. But, this site offers humor designed to make the digitally uptight leap into a self-wedgie.
Seriously, if they actually made this, I would buy it! For the $29 they say.
Thanks for posting a Friday morning chuckle. I see they’ve gotten about a jillion Diggs – but, since I never visit Digg, I wouldn’t have known about this.
What a great idea. Hide a popular highly desirable consumer electronic device in a completely undesirable POS that no one in their right mind would steal. Take that Steve Balmer!
It’s been interesting to watch the downfall of Digg over the past few months. I wonder how long it will take the advertisers to realize there’s no ROI left to be had over there.
As for the article, it’s nice to see M$ selling a useful product for a change. However, I wouldn’t sully my iPhone in this way.

iPod is another fad like the Sony Walkman was. For a few years everybody in nyc was wearing headphones while the cassete players kept getting smaller and smaller. Eventually is faded away and people simply did what they did before in the subway– they stared into empty space like live dead people.
@greg
The .net version is much better.
#6 – fads don’t cop the sort of market share and dollar$ as iPods have. Same goes for carry-on branding – which is why Sony calls their mp3 player a Walkman.
Which pisses off 5 & 7 even more. Speaking of the predictable “self-wedgies”.
#8,
Only Apples iPod market share numbers are a lie. When you compare the iPod numbers to similar devices that play music, the iPod has less than a 10% market share now days. It seems the killer feature on iPod like devices is a PHONE now days, thus making the iPhone the device apple had to persue, even at the expense of future development of their computer operating system and new iPods.
And if you think I am angry, you couldn’t be more wrong. I LOVE the effect that the iPhone has had on the mobile telecom industry already. Verizon has really stepped up with their service, something that was baddly needed. They have overhauled their music manager, they are overhauling their web site integration. Their pricing structure now makes sense(the new allaccess plan)… There is talking of just sending voice mail in on MMS messages.
Whats not to like or be angry about?
Greg, Apple has always been the innovator. Imagine still being on DOS.
Greg, can you not help but lie?

Who is lying me or apple? in FY 2006 250 million mp3 players shipped (just 230 million of them also had phones), apple shipped 20 million mp3 players that year. that is by my reckoning less than 10% of the mp3 player market.
Oh you are talking apple, so you get to cherry pick the data to say what you want it to say.
ROFL.
Lets see, oh wow!!! market dominance!!! Apple has a 100% marketshare of iMac sales!
The other prototype was a pile of Dog Crap, but it was determined that a Zune was less desirable.
GregA, Apple has shipped 31,615,000 in the last recorded 6 months — from Oct 1, 2006 to Mar 31, 2007.
To extrapolate that to 62 million a year currently is conservative since sales are up 24% over that time period.
“Apple has long dominated the music-player space with a steady market share of about 70 percent, according to research firm NPD Group. With its new device, Microsoft has grabbed 2.3 percent of the market and is ranked fourth, behind Apple and the technology companies SanDisk, with 11.7 percent, and Creative, with 4 percent.”

In FY 08 the market for cell phones/mp3 players is expected to me more than a billion handsets. So that 10% market share is sinking isnt it?
Here’s another place to hide your iPod.

#16,
That is an interesting take on the market, but that NPD report excludes 90% of the available mp3 players. I would say NPD needs to reconsider their research.
You are lumping cell phones with MP3 players. Different markets. NPD has it right.
GregA, we had a similar discussion 6 months ago. If I were you i would change my opinion of Apple. You could be making some serious cash from them. That 100 shares of Apple I recommended last July 19 would have cost you $7,300. Today they are worth $14,400. Considering the Quad core costs $2,500 you would have your investment back, a brand new Mac Pro, and an extra $5000 to spend on Windoze crap. But did you listen? Noooooo…..

“If you look at apple’s financials, their Software and Macintosh divisions are getting stronger every fiscal quarter. I’m betting that 100 shares of Apple will net me a Mac Pro as profit by July of next year.
Nintendo is a good long term bet as well. (Wii) Nintendo and Apple are like two peas in an iPod.” — JimR
Tooting my own horn again here… Buy Nintendo went from $21-$22 when I mentioned it to $53 today… $152% profit in 6 months. Cripes, I’m good!
I was in Canada this week and everyone that played with my iPhone cannot wait to buy one. They don’t go on sale there for 4 months but my phone worked fine on Rogers Wireless.
For a real laugh, click the “Order Today” button. Too funny!
Here’s my advertisement idea:
“Tired of being called a homo because you’re a graphic designer using a Mac? We have the perfect solution for you: Introducing the PC case for macs.”
You guys are weird. Who gives a crap about a noise machine to stick in your ear. Or a mobile phone that isn’t. Sony peddled a lot of walk man FM radios and tape players, then Southeast Aisa started pumping them out for 10 bucks a pop. Apple’s Jobs understands advertising, what he peddles isn’t that great, but he does a bang up job of peddling it.
I made money on Apple. Bought their stock when they were going to tank and rumors said Jobs was coming back. Bought a thousand shares at 7 bucks I think it was, or less. Sold it at 70. I bought more PC stuff with the money of course. I just sold my Nintendo Friday..
