Associated Press – July 3, 2007:

Some Merle Haggard fans here are likely singing the blues. Police said Mark Sams, 48, was arrested for impersonating the son of the country music star, who had a hit with the song “I Take a Lot of Pride in What I Am.”

Sams was signing autographs using Noel Haggard’s name and charging people a fee to have their picture taken with him Saturday outside the Valley Club lounge, police said.

Sams was arrested on an outstanding Montana warrant for allegedly issuing bad checks. He also has a warrant for his arrest out of Maryland.

I would impersonate other people, but the only one I look like is Lurch from the Adams family. No income potential in scaring babies.

  2. jdm says:

When the impostor was arrested, was he packin’ an iPhone in his “Minnie Pearl?”

  3. Jerk-Face says:

On one hand it’s brilliant, because probably only 3 people in the world know what Merle Haggard’s son looks like. On the other hand, only three people would care who the fuck he is.

  4. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    #3 – Two great points made there…

  5. bobbo says:

Hey!! He looks like Lurch too! Where’s Branson again?

  6. Jack Payne says:

True, few would know what Merle Haggard’s son would look like. What was it that allegedly tripped him up?
