A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed. Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.

The airport has been evacuated and all flights suspended following the incident.

Taxi driver Ian Crosby said: “This was no accident. This was a deliberate attack on Glasgow Airport.”

The reaction of members of the public was not to help the men in the car, but to restrain them, he told the BBC.

Two men, one of whom was reported to be badly burned, were seen being led away in handcuffs.

Looks like they’re having a busy weekend in the UK.

Update: The hospital where at least one of the arson car occupants was taken has been evacuated. Turns out he was wearing an explosives vest!

The vest was removed and detonated by police. Latest reports say the police are disassembling and examining the device. [No one does the “disarming the infernal device” movies better than the Brits. “Juggernaut” Rules!]

Update: One of the two suspects arrested is in critical condition from injuries in the arson attack. The second is in police custody, as well. CNN now says there was a third suspect in the attack and he died inside the car.

#3 You hit the nail on the head there. If Im shooting down the fast lane of the motorway and some gimp pulls out in front of me doing 50mph in Toyota Carina lets say (Usually white or turquoise for some reason) I would but hard cash on it being an asian guy (As in Pakistani). Thats not racist, thats just anecdotal experience.

Well now, it appears that a couple of followers of ‘The Religion of Peace’ had an unfortunate incident with matches, patio gas and petrol (while driving even), right in front of the airport too, go figure! Nothing like a good pork roast at the airport.

Allah I wanna know is did they have their proper credentials and were they photographed enough – because we all know proper ID and surveillance prevents BarBQ accidents.

(The use of ‘Allah’ and ‘Pork’ is parody. Get it?)

Two more arrests have been made in Cheshire on the M6 motorway. I live right near this motorway and tonight I popped out to get some take out. On the way home I drove over the motorway and the big traffic display signs were saying “Slow – incident ahead”. That was on the southbound side. I’m only 20 miles from Manchester Airport.

    To Lauren,

Must apologise for replying so far down the comments… but Lauren your irking me.

Is the corporation PEPSI an irish individual? How about McDonalds?

So to say ‘American’ is more apt than to say Irish American since I’m sure most of those working for Pepsi Co aren’t Irish?

Actually, talking about America… PAN AM 103? remember that? Lockerbie was a pretty little village once, south east of here a little.

But hey, I’m not going to say that America is to blame for all of this. Just that the media on both sides of the pond have blown this way out of proportion.

So far we’ve had 1 civilian casualty and from what I’ve heard that was only because he tried to detain one of the terrorists.

One eyewitness has stated that the guy he brought down was shouting Allah Allah! so I’d say that was a fair way to suggest he was Muslim.

And btw, Glasgow is becoming quite the place for Muslim immigration (so much so I was surprised they attacked GLA) I used to work beside 200 or so kurds, I’d say that maybe 20-30% of the city was minority but I think ~3.46% is an awfully outdated statistic.

Bradford and Leeds OTOH have recently became white minorities. Its fact that the majority of crimes are caused by the coloured people in the west, but I’d say that with the also sad fact that the majority of the poorest people in the west are coloured and the crimes are usually committed by the poor.

I’d still have let that dirty bastard burn … or atleast put him out so I could set him on fire again at a later date.

Yes, I know, not all Muslim or Arabs are terrorists, its obvious.
But we all know not all sharks kill people swimming in the ocean either – yet we are ON ALERT as soon as just one is around, aren’t we?
(and I don’t mean to insults sharks, because they attack us only when hungry, while muslim terrorists attack just because Mohammad fucked up their brains).

  18. bwaymark says:

47: You should get a job doing PR for Al-Queda….. because that is exactly what they want people to do! The whole point of the terrorists acts isn’t for our benefit. Its a ‘civil’ war so to speak between a small group of radical Muslim’s that don’t like to see their fellow Muslim being ‘corrupted’ by western ideals, which they are, by the millions.

Saudi princes and American presidents play golf together. Look at any of the huge ‘anti western’ street protests and count the New York Yankee baseball caps or Nike bags.

The simple fact is that they are fighting a loosing war, and they know they are loosing war, so they are now using the last tactics they have left….. do some really nasty attacks in the name of Islam, watch a tide of anger rise in the west until the secret services (and there are now 16 of them in the US alone…. http://www.fas.org/irp/official.html) start kicking down doors, hauling people off to illegal camps, torturing (or water boarding) people and then groups of vigilantes and thugs start attacking Muslim’s in the street, refusing to ride the same bus or plane or train with people that look Arab…. at that point, the Muslims are alienated from the western societies they have been happily living in and have no one to turn to but the fundamentalists.

If you want to beat the terrorists, the key is to not be suspicious. The key is to make damn sure that the huge majority of moderate normal Muslims are not afraid that they are being tarred by the same brush. A shark is much more likely to leave you alone if you leave it alone. Keep kicking and eventually it will bite back.

And if that doesn’t work, maybe we just designate a big area somewhere (there are some good spots in the Canadian arctic) and let the Christian Loony Right and the Islamic Fundamentalists fight each other out to the death so the rest of us can get on with normal life….

  19. bwaymark says:

Fair enough, I suppose, but it’d be shame if too many left. The British Asian community (but which I mean India, Pakistani etc) have made a great contribution here in Britain. Without wanting to go to far painting a whole group of people with one brush, enormous contributions have been made by hard working Asian in the IT industry, in the restaurant industry (Indian food is now a days as British as fish and chips, and I for one welcome the introduction of spice and vegetables to the British diet!), as merchants, and even religiously a lot of interesting new concepts have been introduced (like the whole idea of Karma).

If the price to pay for that is the occasional youths being lead astray and tricked into doing something stupid, then so be it. If it isn’t Islam or the Irish there is surely someone else who’d have a go…. there is always someone who wants to bomb us…. although fortunately our counsins across the Atlantic are quickly taking the heat off of us… 😀

  20. bwaymark says:

Oh ya… and I forgot the biggest and best contribution that India gave to British society (albeit a long time a go now): Pyjamas and shampoo! Both words (and the concept) which come from Hindi…..

Just another proof that these “pro-life” organizations should be listed among the other terrorist organizations.

  24. Ben Waymark says:

56: Yes, the majority of Indian’s are Hindu. 80% of Modern India is Hindu (and India has about 1 billion people), but there is still about 100 million Muslim’s in India, and about 150 million Muslims in Pakistan. My point was more that when 52 said “[he] Is inviting those who feel uncomfortable with the way of life in to UK to kindly return home” that’d be a shame if a lot of people left because of the great things that have been contributed to British society. I cannot say that of all contributions made (and I apologise for not mentioning pantaloons… I mean, where were vintage porn have been if it weren’t for pantaloons!) which were done by Muslim’s or Hindu or Sikhs or whatever, just that the continent as a whole has really helped the UK.

  25. bobbo says:

59—Making distinctions is always problematic, but Western Societies need to learn and take action against the radical Muslims so that moderate Muslim won’t be intimted (or lead by the nose?)

In History, examples exist of Muslims offering religious minorities more freedom within their states than said minorities had elsewhere. Course, that was hundreds of years ago and before the Arab Muslim world became inflamed over Israel.

What is the basic leaning of “moderate Muslims?” Is it freedom loving ecumenicalism that has been hijacked, or is it one religion for all that only has its head down while they are a minority?

    tempus fugit.

  26. Ben Waymark says:

I think the basic leaning of “moderate Muslims” ranges from “its nice to see everyone on Saturdays and have a laugh” to “fuck off, I don’t want to talk about religion, lets go get a pint” or “If my mother phones, tell her that I was at the mosque last Saturday, I just sat at the back and no one saw me.”

Basically, the same view that most people seem to have of their religion. Nice to have a building to hold the occasional ceremony in, but other than that just another thing in life that is trying to steal your time and money.

There seems to be a small micro-trend in the UK of radical Muslim’s being harvested from the kid of moderate Muslims. Basically, the parents came to the UK, did everything to fit in, the kids grew up constantly told to work and ‘act British’ then when they hit teenage hood they want to rebel, so instead of becoming punk rockers they join radical Islam. Unfortunately the ones that blow themselves up miss the bit when they realize they were being pillocks and that life isn’t that clear cut.

So to say ‘American’ is more apt than to say Irish American since I’m sure most of those working for Pepsi Co aren’t Irish?”

Pepsico and McDonalds are corporations which, like many others, engage in charitable giving. Neither the stockholders nor the employees of those corporations ever knowingly, explicitly donated money to Gerry and his merry band of murderers. What they did was contribute money to one or another ostensibly legitimate Catholic charities which, unbeknownst to many of their benefactors, were actually funnelling some of that money to the IRA.

The only people in America who knowingly, deliberately sent money to the IRA were Irish-descended Americans and Irish nationals living here, who I lumped together as ‘the Irish’. Nobody else here has any credible motivation to do so, as I obliquely alluded to in my mention of various ethnicities who don’t have a dog in that particular fight…

  28. bobbo says:

45-62==I resent characterizing Pepsi or McDonalds as American. They are international corporationa. They may have started in GOUSA and may (but maybe not) receive most of their income in GOUSA, but are no more America than any other international corporation.

To that end, I can see alot of benefit to “outlawing” (both illegal and unlawful) corporations from doing anything else but make money. No politcal speech, no charity.

The ruse is that such non business related activities boosts their image and therefore sales, but I don’t buy it.

  29. Lauren the Ghoti says:

Silly pedro, of course McDonalds isn’t Irish. As the name would suggest, they serve fine Scottish cuisine.

  30. The only people in America who intentionally, deliberately sent money to the IRA were Irish-descended Americans and Irish nationals living here, who I lumped mutually as ‘the Irish’.
