Part 1: He picks a “Czar” to be his personal advisor.
The general picked by the US president to turn things around in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq has admitted that he had misgivings about the so-called surge in Iraq and that results so far have been “mixed”.
At Lieutenant-General Douglas Lute’s senate confirmation hearing for his position as the new White House “war tsar” on Thursday, he said he had been sceptical of George Bush’s plan to add more than 21,000 combat soldiers to Iraq before it was announced in January.
Federal Law says the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has the responsibility to advise the president. Anyone expect Bush to start obeying the law?
Part 2: He has the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs – replaced!
“Pentagon sources are telling NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski that Defense Secretary Gates has replaced Gen. Peter Pace as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff with Adm. Mike Mullen. He is currently the Navy’s chief naval officer.”
Is this just the Pentagon playing musical jobs?
You have to be amazed at the crap we’re supposed to believe. Gates says he scrapped Pace’s renomination – the papers were already drawn up – after consulting with leading senators from both parties.
Oh. The Kommander in Kreep had nothing to do with it. This will be a big surprise when he arrives home.
Right.
I just like how you now have a war czar who is a three star general, overseeing the wars which puts four star generals under his command.
I volunteer to be the fall guy…
I’ll probably get a good book deal and charge hefty fees on the lecture circuit.
Hail to the Chief…and then run for it
I predict the fall guy will be none other than the democratic congress.
The current plan is to ride out the War fiasco, declare victory thus far and as things get worse, it’s all because the democratic congress.
Very simple.
The war is gonna end? Dream on, Lt. Kilgore.

I pledge allegiance to the corporations of the United States and to the profits for which they stand………….
By the time Bush is out of office, he will have very few, if any staff left, at the rate that he hires and fires people.
Geeze.
His term was expiring. They didn’t want him to have to sit through the Democrats browbeating in Congress, so they’re putting in a new guy. It’s also why Alberto is still attorney general.
trying to make sense of politics is an excersize in futility
Its already been decided. Fall guy well be Paris Hilton. Now thats hot!
#5 – You nailed it, but don’t expect anyone around here to get what you’re saying. Not too many chess players around here.
Realistically, this is people getting out while the getting is good.
