This is a little creepy.

  1. mark says:

Someone tell that girl she’s a babe. And yes, it was a little creepy. My question is this (anorexia) an American Phenomenon?

  2. Named says:

    that was great.

I feel the same way sometimes. Except when I look in the mirror I see this awesome, handsome dude with rippling muscles and a huge schlong… Aside from the huge schlong and handsomeness I’m not that ripped…

It’s tough when reality and image don’t coincide.

    1,

    nope. It’s global!

  3. Raff says:

Who got her the circus mirror? Thats who should be blamed here..

  4. Tom says:

#1 – At the end of the video, you see the url with the .se at the end? Thats Sweden, which is not a U.S. state. 😉

  5. edwinrogers says:

Give the Swedes credit, they’re not hipocrites. They see a problem, they address it, don’t find excuses to do nothing about it. Sometimes they get it wrong, mostly they don’t. The advertisement tells a tale of mental illness from the viewpoint of the victim, how rare is that?

  6. paddler says:

There must be something wrong with me too… I thought the “fat” girl was gorgeous.

  7. JoaoPT says:

    #6 As you’re supposed too…

  8. Joell says:

There are a great many victims of abuse that turn to anorexia/bulimia to try and stay safe. It’s not always about being fat… sometimes it’s about not being an object of abuse. Simplification/stereotyping rarely helps.

  9. OmarThe Alien says:

I’m a 6′ 2″ fat sixty-two year old, and my doctor is a small statured vegetarian, so imagine the lectures I get on my annual visits. I think it pisses him off that all the silly ass numbers they like to throw in your face are, in my case, pretty well where they are supposed to be. And yeah, the fat side chick is cool, I wonder if she digs old fat guys?
The prime directive, mother and/or father nature, God (in whatever form factor He/She/It resides in) all made me a carnivore, and I enjoy it. If we didn’t have Boston Market and/or Marie Callander then I guess I’d have to grab a spear and chase down my own damned supper, a wooly mammoth, or such like. Probably lose some weight in the process, as I don’t get any exercise staring into computer screens.

  10. SN says:

    1. “My question is this (anorexia) an American Phenomenon?

No. And despite what the media says, anorexia has nothing to do with girls wanting to be thin like supermodels or actresses. It’s a disease pure and simple.

A study was done comparing the rates of anorexia from the west to that of an island near the Philippines where heavy women are considered more desirable. The study showed identical rates for anorexia. In other words, our western desire for thinness does not cause anorexia.

I used to date a woman who was recovering from anorexia. It had nothing to do with looking sexy for her. If you’ve ever seen a woman truly suffering from the disease you’ll know what I mean. They go out of their way no to be sexy, to be as unsexy as possible. They wear their clothes, make-up (if they wear make-up), and hair as bland as possible. It’s no different than women who obsessively cut themselves. A compulsion that gets out of control.

  11. Tits McGee says:

Creepy? You bet. But it gets you aware of the issue and makes you think. I bet that’s what they were after.

  12. noname says:

Good public service message. It will probably save someone life. The US should show the same commercial here; if the radical right doesn’t get too uptight with it’s liberal left agenda.

  13. Carl S. says:

So they are saying the mirror image is fat? Wouldn’t that be backing up the whole false body image thingy?

  14. Mr. Fusion says:

The commercial wasn’t aimed at anorexics. It is aimed at those who live with / know one, to help them understand the disease and thus help those afflicted. Usually, telling a mentally person they are sick is ignored.

  15. Bruce IV says:

Y’know, the blonde in this article is much better looking than the blonde three articles up.
