In my previous post I said Harvey wasn’t a global warming indicator because it just happened to stall in the wrong spot. However Irma is not only massive but intense. The kind of storm you get when there is global warming. This doesn’t prove anything by itself but bigger and stronger storms and global warming are linked. If someone calls this one global warming – I’m not going to argue against it.

We are putting CO2 into the air and that will cause some global warming.

The other issue – I wouldn’t want to be in a disaster with Trump as president. These storms are going to cut into his tax cuts for himself.

And – not caused by gay sex.

  1. NewFormatSux says:

2005 had a category 4, and FOUR category 5 hurricanes. One year does not make a trend. It can only increase it a little, in this case, reduce the downtrend.

By the way Marc, a certain post is overdue…

  2. Mr Diesel - Libertarian says:

Sad that I still come here to read this crap.

  3. Mr.Winters says:

Stronger more intense storms seen..Yes it’s global warming. Wait though. Trump the thump says it does not exist..so no it can’t be true.

  4. Mr Winters says:

Stronger, More intense storms. Yes it is global warming. Wait though, Trump says it does not exist, so it can’t be true. Fake scientists.

  5. Mr Winters says:

But Trump the bump says it is not true. More intense storms, more frequently. Fake news, and scientists.

  6. bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

Marc: your obsession with faulty either/or thinking is a subtle self mocking……………..right?

Harvey was not caused by AGW because it stalled? “What if” every expert in the world said: a storms track is caused by the placement and movements of pressure fronts which is a weather phenomenon driven by climate just like every other weather event/measurement?

Seems to me, you are mixing and matching with all parts misunderstood. How about: without AGW….the High Pressure Zone that Harvey ran into and stalled, was caused by AGW? AGW is about more than Hurricane Intensity……..its about ALL ASPECTS OF CLIMATE…and the resulting weather.

    ALL ASPECTS.

The analogy I like is how you account for a dripping faucet into a tub of water that ultimately overflows. Do you “blame” the first drop that falls onto the floor or do you appreciate as well the million drops that filled the tub to begin with? Without all the drops, the tub would not have overfilled. Hmmm…. doesn’t directly get to your error, but I’ll leave it as it demonstrates………something. Maybe how you assess causation?

Storms drop rain based on lots of factors. Warmer air holds more water. Warmer water evaporates more water. AGW makes things warmer. Seems like a pretty close fit to me.

AGW: affects ALL ELEMENTS OF WEATHER.

  7. bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

I’m looking at the Weather forecast of Irma’s track to Florida. The “Spagetti Tracks” although i prefer the Zone of Uncertainty….. but if we apply the Science Denying Analysis to this: “They can’t even tell us if Irma is going to track to the East or the West of Florida. Obviously: Hurricane Irma does not exist.”

for those slow on the pickup: demanding specificity in climate/weather models that IT CANNOT PROVIDE, does not invalidate the importance and validity of what science CAN tell us.

    Stop the insanity.

    • NewFormatSux says:

Climate science, the only field that claims credibility on the basis that you listen to experts in other fields.

      • ± says:

“Science” is too important a word to throw around glibly like that.

        • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

Amuse us: what is glib in the use of Climate Science?

What is glib is calling the Science Deniers “critics.”

Science: so much of it is “not proof” but rather only the best guess we can offer. If AGW weren’t going to destroy society, it would be fun watching idiots argue for their own destruction: Kinda like voting for Trump…… or any other third party candidate.

          Silly hoomans.

          • ± says:

Check with an admin, your post got hooked onto the wrong thread somehow. I could be wrong tho. It could just be a bobbo bloviating tactic to get up word count.

When your handler’s software can snoop responses to your posts instead of just the words in your posts, you are screwed. Thereafter you will have to live off of your pathetic social security check. Beats the nothing-at-all you’d have instead tho. That’s something.

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

NFS: thank you. That is what muddles up so many issues re AGW. ie: people don’t want to be taxed on carbon usage (eg: gas tax to encourage/support electric) so they claim the science is incorrect.

Was your support intended? Ha, ha…….or just your inability to communicate a thought correctly?

  8. NewFormatSux says:

CrowdStrike, the company that told us the Russians had hacked the DNC, was unable to stop the hacking for several weeks. Most of the e-mails are from AFTER they were hired. And the deluge of e-mails start the same day as Hillary’s e-mails in the archive. Hmmm…..

    How’s your cancer fight going?

    • Marc Perkel says:

Oddly – I’m not sure. Last images were inconclusive. At worst I’m getting worse very slowly. At best I figured out how to cure cancer.

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

Cancer suffers from being a catch all phrase. Yes, its cancer, but there are many different causes, and therefore cures, for all the different cancers.

Is it sharks that don’t get cancer? If not, then surely other species simply don’t get cancer…………… showing a genetic link that is subject to human manipulation. IIRC: some genetic conditions can be fixed by gene manipulation…. others require you to be born with the new set of genes????? ((No…. I think that is mostly wrong….. techniques use virii to “infect” a person with a new genome, don’t know how extensive such changes can be.))

Shark men and women. Add some gills…..and who needs dry land?

        • Mr Diesel - Libertarian says:

bobbo – “Shark men and women. Add some gills…..and who needs dry land?”

You do if you want to avoid the giant patch of floating trash.

          • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

Catch the new article on particulate plastic in USA drinking water? If there is particulate plastic….. how much molecular plastic is there????

Plastic: can mimic hormones…don’t know at what level they actually get utilized “as” a hormone after its transition due to size alone from plastic pollution.

Just another trauma to cause who knows what diseases and infirmities in the population. Source of this plastic is mostly car tires and clothing. Not really any source that can be “managed.”

      • NewFormatSux says:

Very appropriate answer for a global warming thread, conditions have a wide range. Did you get CT or XRay?

        • Marc Perkel says:

I recently got a PET scan but it was inconclusive. But the fact that I’m still alive is an indicator my procedure I invented worked.

          • NewFormatSux says:

How could a PET scan be inconclusive? I was under the impression that you had a large tumor, and now you can’t tell if it has gotten smaller or larger?

……..or……..yes, even criminals can run a clean charity……….

or………..I can’t read anything about the Clintons. It upsets my stomach.

          • NewFormatSux says:

Clinton Foundation was the primary focus of their moneymaking. Half of the money in stays on as assets not yet distributed. This methodology is incomplete that they couldn’t see it.

      • Hmeyers says:

Fair point. I don’t trust hardly any charities.

I briefly was a United Way “key worker” — a volunteer to manage charity collections for employees where I was working.

After that, I have never given money to a charity.

        It was an appalling experience.

        • Hmeyers says:

The experience and training was mostly how to pressure employees to donate as much money as possible.

And the emphasis was not much on what good was being done, but manipulate through telling half-truths.

I was somewhat startled by how those people could live with themselves.

Money does corrupt. One of the worst: March of Dimes.

I generally do not trust biased sources to report honestly and fairly about controversial personalities on the other side of the spectrum.

They like to cherry pick quotes or quote out of context to paint a picture.

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

I read a transcript on another blog then found a link that on quick scan said much the same thing.

        Posting Links. Imagine that????

    • Hmeyers says:

Read a bit of the article.

What is the advantage of buying bottled water over storing water via tap water?

San Francisco is trying to eliminate bottled water in favor of tap water (although for environmental reasons).

Do bottled water companies try to profiteer from hurricanes?

I would bet they try. Why not sell overpriced water in a bottle in the highest volumes possible?

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

Fraud/gouging/profit maximization permeates our society. I can guess your point…………….. so what?

    • Hmeyers says:

      Also .. watch out.

Washington Post is owned by Amazon.

Amazon did not buy the Washington Post because they want to be in the news business.

Amazon specifically owns the Washington Post to influence politicians in Washington DC.

I trust Amazon as much as I trust Facebook or “Do no evil” Google (a slogan Google dropped years ago).

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

We all master what we can.

    • Hmeyers says:

      Last thing:

Historical probability of a major hurricane hitting Florida is 21%

So 4 out of 5 times, major hurricanes don’t hit Florida and veer off.

Doesn’t mean this one won’t. But if you go with the odds, if you bet money on every major hurricane missing Florida you’d make a lot of money.

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

….gee HM: thats quite a stupid bet.

The degree of predictability increases as the event approaches.

        Irma==near 100%

        J==what? lets give it 50%

        K==just now forming–30%

You don’t appear to know how to “bet” at all.

Hurricanes happen, I can’t prove…I can’t convince even myself, that humans are responsible for weather. Our weather records are the genesis as far as wind speeds measured.

Earths weather is amazing, the energy used to create giant masses of air spinning, scary are the smaller tightly spinning air masses.

The infrastructure of the Keys is gone. Can it even be rebuilt to 1000 year storm surge standards??? should it be left as a recreational area or for the Rich with Concrete only?

Same question for the entire peninsula of Florida… Texas coast, etc………or will it be back to business as usual???? Whats different this time is the lack of ignorance.
