8 years ago Obama ran on the “Change” slogan. But Hope and Change became Nope and Same. His presidency was more like a 3rd and 4th term of Bush, and it was a disaster. Killing bin Laden was about the only thing he got right. Obamacare is better than nothing – but not a lot better.

People wonder why Hillary lost. It was in a big part because Obama was such a poor president. (Article about Hillary being responsible for her own loss coming.)  But the bottom line is – Hillary was the candidate of more of the same. Trump is change that we can believe in. Change to what is a mystery, but whatever happens, it will be different.

As to Trump’s campaign slogans – they were just slogans and just because he said it has no bearing on if it’s true or not. Everyone who thinks they know what Trump is going to do is wrong. Everyone! We can only hope that he isn’t as bad as what I think he’s likely to be.

Obama said he would close Gitmo on day one. It’s still open. And don’t blame the Republicans. Obama was weak and stupid.

The rich who crashed the economy got a huge government handout and no one went to jail. “too rich to jail”, was an Obama creation. The rest of us got screwed. Not even a minimum wage increase. Even Bush raised the minimum wage.

Obama deported more Mexicans than Bush.

Obama threw more gays out of the military than Bush.

Obama is trying to steal back the signup bonuses for soldiers going to Iraq. (Can you refund my legs too?)

Obama opposed birth control pill (RU486, morning after) after FDA approved it.

Obama expanded government spying that Bush started.

We now have a 20 trillion dollar debt.

Obama closed many California medical marijuana clinics.

We’re still in Afghanistan and Iraq, and we screwed up Syria, Egypt, Libya, and all the “Arab Spring” countries creating ISIS and ISIL. And Hillary was SOS at the time.

Obama war on press and spying on press.

Obama was in a war on whistle blowers including Assange and Snowden. Looks like Assange won that battle.

I could go on – the the bottom line is – Bush screwed us over. Then Obama screwed us over. The voters wanted real change. They rejected 16 other Republicans in the primary. Bernie almost won on the Democrat side – but the Dem primary was rigged to elect Hillary, and that backfired.

Ultimately people were so disgusted that even though Trump himself was a clown candidate, people just couldn’t stomach more of the same.

I personally voted Hillary, but I understand why, in an election about the lesser of 2 evils, that other people chose Trump.

  1. Geoworker says:

Ok, whatever happens with Trump will be different. Your observations about Obama and Hillary may be insightful. I hope things in the USA will be made better under his administration. All of us should feel the same. But we’ll soon find out.

Anyway, it may not matter. I suspect Trump, in the overall scheme of things, will be nothing but a bump in the road and we’ll see a changeover back to the Democrats in 2020. And then it will be a continuation of Obama all over again. Maybe worse.

“I personally voted Hillary, but I understand why, in an election about the lesser of 2 evils, that other people chose Trump.”

The elections are never about the lesser of evils, there is always a third choice or write in option. No one has to vote for known evil. All you did was join the rest of the sheeple in hiring evil.

    • IM78 says:

I’m sure you know as well as the rest of us that a third party candidate hasn’t got a snowballs change in hell.

      • Clark Griswold says:

        You are right.

Like I’m going to bet my paycheck on the sway-back 100:1 shot 3rd party nag!

      • ± says:

Yes, I’ve (probably) heard every excuse there is for voting for known evil. Yours is probably the most common.

        • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

In years….you’ve gotten NO ONE to agree with your TP BS. Never going to learn are you…. and proud of it.

Until cumulative voting becomes the case, TP voting is self destructive. Hang in their bucky.

          • ± says:

Never heard the cumulative voting excuse used before. Good one. You hang in there and keep fucking over the US with your vote along with most of the rest of the electorate. Bucky.   🙄

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

            Its not “an excuse.”

            buy a dictionary.

  3. Voting for a war-mongering career criminal is morally repugnant. You should be ashamed. They fact you don’t feel shame is even more repulsive.

You old Leftists will go to your graves thinking Communism would have worked if only the correct people had been given execution authority.

    • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Old Leftism, like Neo-Cons, have things in common with Communism…but you over conflate.

      that is a sin.

  4. IM78 says:

Okay, you guys have all the answers – what should be done about these thousands of ill-informed college kids that raising such a ruckus. Insisting that because they don’t agree with the results of the election that we should kick Trump out and redo the election. SERIOUSLY? Are the universities teaching these young people how to be hopelessly stupid?

    • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Technically, but not realistically, the Electoral College, formed exactly to prevent a Trump type election, is being appealled to by the marching in the streets.

Its also a caution to Trump not to go full retard.

will it work?………. about as often as street protest ever does.

    • NewFormatSux says:

What should be done? They should be thrown in jail.

First amendment gives you the right to assemble peacably, not to block the streets.

Also, first amendment gives you the right to petition government for redress of grievances, aka lobbying.
However, paid lobbyists are required to register with the government, and these guys haven’t done that.

      Lock em up!

      • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Getting locked up is part of the bargain of civil disobedience.

You post as if this is a new idea of yours.

        Ha, ha======>buy a dictionary.

  5. Ah_Yea says:

Six months after Obama was elected President, I started calling him “Bush Lite”‘

    I was wrong.

    He was Bush 2.0

  6. NewFormatSux says:

Supporting a corrupt criminal for President, you shouldn’t be surprised by the result. I’m wondering if anyone will pore over the campaign reports, and see how much money Team Clinton made from the donations? How did they raise five times as much money and run far fewer ads than Trump in Penn, Mich, Wisc?

Typically consultants take 15% off the top. We saw David Brock of Media Matters takes about a third, before he even deposits the money, but he doesn’t run ads. Clinton Foundation has pretty high expenses for website, and I’m wondering if the campaign did the same. Out of that billion dollars raised, did Chelsea end up with $100 million?

  7. NewFormatSux says:

Obama didn’t deport more Mexicans. He started counting returns at the border as deportations to make his numbers look good.

Do you have a source for gays? That’s pretty surprising coming from a gay President.

  8. Hmeyers says:

I loved Obama, until sometime around 2010. Assange, Snowden and later Trayon Martin and the Ferguson riots … the country started feeling “1984” big-brother. “Safe spaces” (assault on free speech) and “if you disagree you are racist” doesn’t help.

Michael Moore (the anti-Bush filmmaker) had an awesome take on why Trump would win:

  9. NewFormatSux says:

Marc Perkel: “We’re mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it anymore.”

Nine months later, he voted for Crooked Hillary.

  10. NewFormatSux says:

She couldn’t bring it up, but killing Bin Laden is more Hillary’s doing than Obama’s. He kept saying no, listening to Valerie Jarrett. He finally gave a greenlight to Leon Panetta for a special forces op as a stalling action, not knowing that a plan was ready to go. Obama did not know when the op was launched, Hillary did. When Valerie found out, she ordered to abort.
Hillary had promised Leon Panetta that she would resign in support of him if he were forced to take the fall for a failed op, but I think we know that she would have abandoned him.

    • Phydeau says:

I stand in awe of people who are able to create their own reality.

    • ± says:

Bin Laden was already killed sometime during the Bush presidency. Some rocket into some mountain cave or destroyed convoy in some remote valley did the job. The only corroboration was the sudden change in radio and phone traffic, and other circumstantial support, to “prove” that he was now dead. Bush tried for years (and failed) to find physical evidence so he wouldn’t be called a liar. Enter Obama. Obama needed a “win” and brilliantly crafted the “raid” which “killed” Bin Laden. Then after not allowing ANY of our allies to view the body and confirm the death, “bin Laden” was dumped in the middle of the ocean. Haaaaahahahahahaahahahaha.

      • NewFormatSux says:

I’m surprised the left-wing ‘9-11 truthers’ didn’t claim that Osama was a CIA plant used to start the neo-con wars.

    • Hmeyers says:

Killing Bin Laden was one thing no one can dispute that Obama got right.

Although it doesn’t bring back the 3,000 people that died, Bin Laden’s death brought that chapter to a close with justice being served to a mass murder of innocent people.

      • Phydeau says:

You underestimate the ability of people to dispute obvious things, and to believe obviously untrue things. 🙄

        • Hmeyers says:

          No I don’t. That’s why I don’t trust partisans.

The first causality in partisan politics is the truth. And the truth, wherever it may lie, is the thing we need most.

The biggest human weakness is believing something because you agree with it and want it to be true, or the reverse.

Which makes someone part of the problem — or even worse, a pawn or puppet to someone.

I’m made out of a human — so I’m not perfect — but I try hard to never fall into that trap.

    1) “Ford Called to Say It’s Keeping SUV Plant in Kentucky”

    http://bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-18/trump-says-ford-called-to-say-keeping-lincoln-plant-in-kentucky

“Ford confirmed late Thursday it has told Trump its Lincoln SUV made at the Louisville assembly plant will stay in Kentucky.”

    2) “Sanders: If Trump has the ‘guts’ to take on corporate America, he’s got an ally”

    http://cnn.com/2016/11/17/politics/bernie-sanders-donald-trump-allies/index.html

Please let Trump do what he said he’ll do — and not let the Republicans co-opt him — and not be just another politician that says something to get elected and then doesn’t follow through.

Obama ran against Hillary in 2008 saying “I’m against the personal mandate” on health insurance. Then he did a personal mandate on health insurance.

    • Phydeau says:

Good for Bernie, giving Trump an opportunity to walk the walk. We’ll see, won’t we?

    • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

      Wow. Seems like good news.

““We are encouraged that President-elect Trump and the new Congress will pursue policies that will improve U.S. competitiveness and make it possible to keep production of this vehicle here in the U.S.,” the automaker said in an e-mailed statement.” //// Anybody want to believe that?

sounds to me like Ford independently calculated the cost of the move was close enough not to do it and to bargain for some kind of future tax cut to keep them here.

……………… or am I too pessimistic?

      • NewFormatSux says:

Maybe, but there are still two benefits.
        1) UAW didn’t know about it. So Trump’s tweeting it takes away Ford’s leverage in negotiations.

        2) Ford gave Trump credit, giving him more leeway to threaten other companies.

        • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Unions are dead/dying in USA. This directly affects all aspects of middle class life in USA…also dead/dying.

Trump gave his BS threat. Big Corp is doing what is in ITS best interests…not USA. Don’t know about Toyota or Mercedes building here or Chrysler owned by…Fiat? or some other foreigner. so, all thats left is Chevy.

Off Shoring, Robots, assembled in Mexico: it will all continue because USA still has room to the bottom.

  13. Ha says:

No one knows what trump will do, particularly trump.

    • Hmeyers says:

On the plus side, Trump wants to be a hero. It is his narcissistic flaw.

He might do what he says and do it “bigly”.

George W. Bush and Obama entered office confident in who they are, not feeling like they needed to prove anything to anyone.

Trump thrives on proving people wrong.

I didn’t vote for Trump, I voted against Hillary. (A reverse Perkel).

I don’t know what Trump will do, but his need for approval from the populace might be exactly the right thing.

/Be an interesting conversation for next year at this time.
