It appears Mitt Romney is thinking about jumping into the Republican race. For those who think it’s too late – maybe not.

In order to win the nomination a candidate has to get half the delegates. Delegates are committed to vote for their candidate only on the first round. If no one gets 1/2 then delegates can vote for anyone. The question as to what “anyone” means is still open, and there might be some rule changes going into the convention.

In order to stop Trump Romney is considering jumping in at the convention because it’s not just Trump. All the Republican candidates are a disaster and there’s doubt that any candidate will get to more than half. Romney apparently thinks they could unite around him, but that would mean completely ignoring 100% of the voters.

And Trump would likely launch a third party bid. Trumps pledge not to run as independent is conditional on the party not screwing him. And if he gets more votes than anyone else then not picking him is screwing him.

My only prediction that I’m standing by this year is that the election will be interesting and unusual. Might even rival the 2000 election.

This situation is why primary system needs to change. That fact that at the end of everything it might not matter at all is stupid. I the powers in either party discover they can crown their own handpicked candidate we’ll see many more years like this.

The worst part, the states pay for these primaries they are going to potentially ignore.

Trump is the only chance America has, imagine the nightmare world of President Shillery or Comrade Bern.

*Bernie sanders may have died of old age since this comment was posted, if so , good.

    • Marc Perkel says:

Bernie is only 5 years older than Trump.

      • MikeN says:

Just imagine what 5 more will do to him.

        • noname says:

Yeah, just imagine what 4 or more years of Trump or Hillary will do to America or the world for that matter?

The thing people like about Trump or Bernie is that they are their own person. Both Trump and Bernie are unrealistic at times but so are all politicians.

Hillary and the rest of the GOP field sound and act like puppets of consultants, lobbyist and wealthy campaign contributors. They only speak with calculated, poll tested and written to impress.

RoboMarco just took the puppeteering to ad nauseam extremes!

          • MikeN says:

Hillary endorsed Export Import bank to work on behalf of Boeing. Bernie said no.

      Dump the Trump

  4. Mr Diesel says:

I voted for Romney. I supported Romney. I believe that the impact of his little tirade yesterday will have an impact on the election but I don’t believe it will be what Republican establishment assholes want.

If the people want Trump or Cruz or even Little Marco then that’s what they should get and not some limp dick who ran twice and couldn’t get elected.

My position is fuck Romney as I have no respect for him anymore.

  5. admfubar says:

ahh just what the gop needs more mitt-wits

  6. NewFormatSux says:

I think Trump paid Romney to give that speech.

    • Hmeyers says:

Romney should enter the race so he can stop Trump.

I think Romney would get 3% of the vote complete his journey of making a total ass out of himself.

  7. NewFormatSux says:

Well he stayed out because he thought Jeb was unstoppable. Now that he’s out I guess he’s the one.

  8. NewFormatSux says:

Marc, could you at least get the theory right.
Romney can’t jump in at the convention to stop Trump. At that point, Trump has the delegates and Romney can do nothing, or Trump doesn’t have the delegates and he is stopped.

Romney’s plan, which is really the plan of the donors who want amnesty and corporate welfare, is to have him jump in if Rubio loses Florida. They want Romney to try to win California and some other big states to deny Trump delegates.

  9. Ah_Yea says:

Romney doesn’t want to become president, he want to be the kingmaker during a brokered convention.

It’s not as important who he doesn’t want for president, as who he does want for president.

It will be between Cruz or Rubio, of course. Romney is waiting for their ticket to come together behind Cruz or Rubio, and then strip delegates from Trump to them.

  10. Bob says:

    Loser!

  11. bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

$Romney could get nominated. Would have to run for it though, as there is still time for the Western States where he won over Obama last time around.

This would deny $$$Trump the necessary 1237 delegates and throw the convention open where 60% give or take are against Trump. I think Cruz is seen as unelectable in the general. This would leave Casick, Cruz, and $Romney. I think Cruz is too young and shows it, $Romney had his chance and in fact might not want the job,……………so………..Casick for the win.

But $Romney lost his main chance…. tick tock.

The only relevant question then is: what do the Billionaires want?

    • Hmeyers says:

      Long shot but …

Let’s say Hillary gets indicted and Trump fails to reach the required number of delegates.

Then who the hell are the presidential candidates?

      • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Wouldn’t that be Bernie vs Trump?

……..course, one can imagine……….as well as one can.

Trump does appear to have some fascist (a la Mussolini…same personalities…. its amazing!) tendencies…but I assume they would get inhibited by the power structure that is and Trump is too “Westernized” (you know…. those New York values!) to use a private security force to take over the other two branches??

Like Mussolini/Italy the Trump/USA is controlled by the Big Business and the Already Too Rich.

Is this History repeating itself……….or never changing at all?

        ……………………………….. Ha, ha.!!!!

        • IM77 says:

          Good points, Bobbo

        • Hmeyers says:

I don’t think either Trump or Hillary will be in the November election.

And I don’t think Sanders is an automatic substitution if Hillary gets indicted.

This could be a very strange election year of (???) vs. (???)

I don’t think Trump is going to get the required delegates because his position on key issues has been very inconsistent recently — he’s sent some major mixed signals on immigration and H1B1 visas.

I don’t know much about Cruz, but Rubio won’t be in for much longer and I’m not sure Trump is going to make it.

          • NewFormatSux says:

The only forecast of Bill Kristol that could still come true is
“Neither of the top two on the Republican or Democratic side will win the nomination.” That was Hillary, Sanders, Trump, and Carson.
The rest were like Marc Perkel about how Trump will lose support.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

With last night, it appears Trump won’t have the majority of delegates meaning there will be an open convention. Nothing wrong with that.

Would the Pukes rather lose an election that have Trump their nominee?

I can see that, but odds are they would want the Presidency and to make the Dems win, all Trump would have to do is get on the ballot, no campaigning at all (ie–cheap and easy to do).

My view: open convention, the power brokers that be in maximal position to get “promises” from Trump for what they would be worth. Perhaps an agreement on who his initial staff and advisors would be?

I will be extremely sad if the FBI fails to hand over an indictment on Hillary. The violation is so obvious. But most of politics is…………. if you …………….

            …………….just look.

          • Hmeyers says:

When he was consistent and being unfairly targeted by the media, I supported Trump.

But now he’s being very inconsistent.

If he is going to change positions on H1B1 visas and change positions on other issues … he serves no purpose.

            (Except being rude)

I can tolerate the rudeness if he is going to be a champion of the working class against the elites.

But if he isn’t going to do that …

      • ± says:

The event of Hillary being indicted won’t have the slightest effect on her candidacy. You’re forgetting it is R/D voters calling the shots.

        • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

I don’t know about general indictments but the National Security violations expressly bar the convicted from serving in office.

          • ± says:

            I assumed that.

Still, if she was indicted at the time she was the D candidate, you and Mark and 10s of millions of other sheep would try to hire her.

Fuck all R/D voters for shitting in my nest.

        • Hmeyers says:

The Hillary thing will be a fun test case for the FBI and the justice system in this country.

The FBI threatens hacker kids with life sentences, convicts kids of treasons for telling ISIS people how to use Bitcoin.

The FBI sends people to the slammer for paperwork violations and ripping the tag off mattresses and are bringing in some hacker from Bulgaria or Hungary for somehow violating US law abroad (how does that work?).

And is full of hard asses.

I’m interesting in seeing what the reason is that they don’t recommend indictment for Hillary when it comes.

Will it be because we have a 2 tier system like Russia where the rulers and the ruled have different laws?

The elites vs. commoners thing is just getting ridiculous.

And so are megacorps rights vs. citizens rights.

(Don’t get me wrong, I truly could care less if Hillary is indicted or not. Has nothing to do with my daily life.

But in an age where government power is absolute, it sure will be the ultimate hypocrisy when the FBI decides to overlook what it would charge someone else with 15 felonies …)

Mitt Romney’s a Mormon, and magic Mormon underwear often leads to magical thinking. It’s true — you can read about it on Wikipedia:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_garment

…Temple garments are sometimes derided as “magic underwear” by non-Mormons, but Mormons view this terminology to be both misleading and offensive.[11][12][13][14][15]

    You go, Mitt!

P.S. Anybody got a pic of Ann in her magic underwear? Ann and Mitt do have 5 sons together, maybe she’s got some of that LDS magic lingerie? 😉 😉

    • Hmeyers says:

      Glen Beck is a Mormon.

Mormon’s believe your body is your vessel and you need to take care of it. Alcohol and smoking are a no-no.

That’s why the Mormons are always healthy, riding bikes, dressing nicely.

Except Glen Beck who I guess was an alcoholic and doesn’t take care of his body — so he doesn’t do his faith, but he’ll sure tells everyone else how to do theirs!

  13. Hmeyers says:

Theory #2: Trumps recent self-inflicted wounds is because he doesn’t want to be president.

He just wanted to see if he could be.

When he reached the point where he could have had it locked up if he went any further …

He starts doing strange Ross Perot like things (loyalty oaths at rallies? Speaking rudely of the speaker of the house?) to self-torpedo.

    Needed to self-nuke.

He’s spent very little money on his campaign, relying on free media.

If he gets the nomination, he’d need to spent countless hundreds of millions in the general election.

  14. Hmeyers says:

Fuck: Did you know we were “this close” to having a Trump vs. Sanders debate yesterday?

  15. spaced says:

If a Muslim/American woman, oh hell ANY American born woman, goes ANYWHERE outside the USA and then has a baby and then raises that child for years outside the USA can that child come back to the USA and run for president?
If elected will he/she be able to legally serve in that capacity?

  16. Poli-"Ticks" Make Me Itch! says:
