People around the world began to regain access to Twitter on Tuesday after several hours of sporadic disruptions in its global operations that had left many of its 300 million users without access to the social network.

The company said it was not clear what had caused the problems. The disruptions began around 3 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and prevented many users from sharing updates on their smartphones, computers and other mobile devices. As of about 8:30 a.m., the company said it was still experiencing disruptions worldwide.

The company did not say how many of its users were affected, or what had caused the disruptions — only that it was “working towards a resolution.”

I’ve been meaning to get me one of those Tweeter accounts, I just can’t seem to find the time.

That’s funny as one of my other sites I moderate went down as well.

I’d like to know what hit Twitter.

    • Mr Diesel says:

In my case it turned out to be software upgrades and lack of capacity.

As for Twitter, I don’t give a shit nor do I even know anyone who uses it.

  2. Ah_Yea says:

    My Theory.

It was on purpose. Twitter has a new CEO, founder Jack Dorsey. Been CEO now since July 1st and the company is floundering.

Twitter has never made a profit and may never make a profit. Investors are worried. Investors are the guys who pay the bills.

If twitter can show how important it is, and show life without it, users would become willing to see changes like longer tweets and advertising. Or so goes the thought.

  3. The Verge says:

“The company said it was not clear what had caused the problems.”

though industry insiders seem to have arrived at a consensus that it may be the result of all the rave tweetings over the new Permuskel AI spam filter they purloined yesterday — They suspect it caused the filter to flip out and ingest itself; Though, not before banning all the twits that had nice things to say about it.

i think the early bird ate a bad worm…

Someday, when the electric grid goes down, we’ll see what a REAL panic looks like…

  6. Shameless Selfie says:

Was life really so bad before Twitter, Facebook, and , …?

Now we’re all preparing for the IoS (Internet of Shit):

  7. noname says:

    “Twitters DOWN, Everybody Panic!!!!”

Really, using “Everybody”, for such a nonevent, McCullough jumps on the hyperbole train?

I’ve encountered no one who noticed it, or at least no one felt it worthy (given more important things to discuss) to even comment about it!

McCullough you really could have put more effort in your hyperbolic headline; like: “Twitters DOWN, Everyone run for the caves, save yourself … and for god sakes don’t look back!”

  8. NewFormatSux says:

Maybe someone was upset over their new censorship policy.

  9. Anti Social says:

I’m betting Twitter hosts their crap with Microsoft servers. And knowing Microsoft’s policy towards anyone’s privacy (where they don’t give a crap), it was probably the NSA or any of the myriad of other letter-toting lazy-bastard unrestrained cop shops inserting back doors or viruses to keep an eye on the morons who use Twitter. I can just hear the excuses if/when they ever get caught: “it was done for the children” or “it was done to prevent terrorism” — which we all know is absolute bullshit.

Now, if only Facebook would go down — FOREVER!
