Found on Treehugger a space saving idea for that studio flat or college dorm, a microwave oven with an LCD TV/DVD built into the oven door. The best use yet, for a microwave oven?

  4. hhopper says:

That would be a good deal if the chicken came with it.

  5. Stu Mulne says:

Can’t wait to see the remote for that….

(Actually if you’re in a small dorm room this might be convenient. But….)

  9. Greg Allen says:

This is silly but many companies have been serious — for years — about building computers into refrigerators and hooking it to the ‘net.

I’m sure marketers like the idea because they can put advertising near where we consume a lot of items.

But does any CONSUMER want this? I don’t… especially if I have to pay more for my refrigerator in order to get advertising.

Now, of the advertisers would give me a FREE refrigerator, I might go for it.

  10. Greg Allen says:

That being said… I wouldn’t mind a computer in the kitchen for two main purposes:

    1) To get AllRecipes.com
    2) For a little entertainment while I cook (radio and news, esp.)

Now if someone would only invent a combination cell phone/refrigerator.

  14. Neal says:

    Why is this “idiotic”?

I cold have used this a couple of years ago in my first two one-room apartments, which were each the size of a small beehive.

  15. JT says:

How are you supposed to watch your food cooking? They need to include a camera that displays the inside of your microwave on the LCD display.

The American version is a mini fridge specially designed to keep beer cool.

  17. chewy says:

This is a fantastic idea, I would be very suprised if this doesn’t take off.

It’s one of those .”why the hell didn’t I think of it” ideas.

    Brilliant.

Does it make high def vegetables? 16×9 meatloaf?

  19. Floyd says:

You could watch Food Network while your lunch warms up…mmm good.

  20. Check on your food during commercials.

  21. Glenn E says:

Like #16 says, it needs an internal camera (CCD), protected from RF so it doesn’t get fried. Then one could probably see the food cooking a lot better than looking thru the normally tinted glass door, with course grid. And if the LCD had a PiP option, one could watch the food and the Tv program at the same time. Maybe they should just sell the LCD screens with tuners built-in, and let us stick them on whatever we want them.
