Needs more wives! Ladies?
Romney Family Tree Has Polygamy Branch — As I have said for almost two years the Republicans have it in their plans to run McCain and Rudy in 2008. It’s pre-decided and can only be sidetracked by some punk like Romney actually messing up the scheme. So this non-news story comes out just to remind people he is a Morman and golly, isn’t that terrible.
This is so tranparent. Even the way this article is written makes me laugh.
While Mitt Romney condemns polygamy and its prior practice by his Mormon church, the Republican presidential candidate’s great-grandfather had five wives and at least one of his great-great grandfathers had 12.
Polygamy was not just a historical footnote, but a prominent element in the family tree of the former Massachusetts governor now seeking to become the first Mormon president.
John, you might be right but here’s the biggest hitch to your theory, that I can see:
Neither McCain, Giuliani nor Romney will make the conservative Christians happy.
Just remember how they raised holy hell because Harriet Miers didn’t perfectly suit them.
You’re certainly correct that McCain and Giulliani would be the strongest national ticket but it comes with a serious risk that the conservative Christian wing will run their own independent candidate, surely swinging a close election to the Dems.
Are conservative Christians really that crazy that they would cut off their noses to spite their face? What do you think?
Romney won’t get as far as his father did. Talk about flip flop.
McCain will get the true Conservative vote, and he will get the neo-con vote and most of the Christian right because of his abortion stance. Thats all he needs to win the nomination……but, I don’t think he can pull off putting Guiliani on the ticket.
I’m leaning towards a McCain/Hagel ticket.
Harriet Miers was seen as a lackluster crony and it was that simple. Given this choice: McCain-Rudy versus Hillary/Obama (or any other Democrat) what are the conservative Christians going to do? I mean really?
As for Hagel..you have to recall the performance Rudy did at the convention. And he attracts a lot of Dems and moderates. I see no other choice. That said I always recall that dummy pretty-boy Quayle — so anything is possible.
Of course I always have this pic for fun…
NO Photoshop either! A classic.
>> McCain-Rudy versus Hillary/Obama (or any other Democrat) what are the conservative Christians going to do? I mean really?
They run a pro-life, anti-gay conservative Christians as independent candidate and split the conservative vote. Really
You honestly think the Religious Right isn’t crazy enough to do that?
True Believers pull that kind of crap. Just look at the Greens in 2000.
PS: YOU hated Miers because she was a crony. The Religious Right don’t hate lackluster cronies.
THEY hated here because they suspected she wasn’t a true believer on abortion in her distant past. I hang out with lots of Religious Right people — I’m not wrong on this.
“Republicans have it in their plans to run McCain and Rudy in 2008”
I’m sorry but I just don’t see Giuliani willing to settle for the vice presidency.
Quite simply… Who cares about his great-grandfather? My grandfather was a drunk. Does that necessarily make me an a**hole?
Nope, I became that all on my own. 🙂
Pretty ugly slant, though. Thanks for pointing out this typical leftist BS hype, John. This is low, even for them.
Greg you ARE wrong. I listen to the right wing radio talk show folks all the time and they were all over her. It had nothing to do with religion or views. She wasn’t qualified and was a plain old fashioned crony and these folks thought they were being taken advantage of. However it morfed in your world was just that, a morf.
Nobody is runnin any competition in the Democratic camp that would ever have any appeal to the religious right. Iam going to assure you in advance that this is a done deal — there will be no democratic President in 2008.
2012 is the best bet. If there is an economic collapse, as I am also predicting, then even Obama can win that one.
This is old history. Mitt Romney should not be penalized for what his great-grandfather did any more then I should be penalized for what my great grandfather did. (He was a Conservative)
#4, I loved your PS. Gave me a good chuckle.
The same can be said of 99.99% of all Mormon families.
3. IMO
Rudy yes, McCain no.
McCain’s stance on the border is likely to burn him.
Rudy seems to be a Libertarian in Republican clothing and maybe that’s why he’s got some appeal for the Dems & Moderates due to his more liberal social standings.
With the Geffen issue between the Clinton and Obama camp, it’s doubtful the two will team together. Hilliary seems to rub some people the wrong way. Barak has very good communication skills, but his lack of experience may be his undoing. Who knows.
10. “Rudy yes, McCain no.”
I’d have to agree that Rudy has a much better chance. Rudy is a genuine moderate conservative while Hillary is left wing nut pretending to be a moderate. That’s the reason she “seems to rub some people the wrong way.” People know she’s a fake.
And I think most people see McCain as crazy. Well, at least I do. Some of the shit he pulls out of his ass is just asinine.
#10,
he’s got some appeal for the Dems & Moderates due to his more liberal social standings.
What liberal social standings? When Rudy’s tenure in New York is looked at, he sure the heck isn’t that clean a guy. He’ll be tarnished pretty quick as soon as he starts spouting anything. Contrary to most concepts, he wasn’t that great a Mayor. He carried on his predecessor’s policing policies and took credit for his successes. His only claim to fame is being the Mayor when the planes hit and having some very dedicated people in the Police and Fire Departments.
SN…geez
when something is decided by bosses it’s not a matter of settling. You do what you are told. McCain is the good boy here and gets this job. Have you followed anything in all your years behind the scenes? Sheesh.
It’s not going to flip the other way, McCain already has a joke for it that he used on Letterman. This joke was written for him and to paraphrase: “Hey when I was a prisoner of war in North Viet Nam I was kept in the dark and fed scraps. Why would I want to go through that again??”
That is a professionally written joke. He’s on the track.
Giuliani in already in the doghouse for letting Hillary get the job he could have had. He’s not going to the top here. He’s also young enough to move up later.
He doesn’t know that later never comes.
You have no idea how many bets I’ve won over the years on politics. It’s transparent to me. When George W. was the Governor of Texas I was telling everyone that he was the next prexy. It was so obvious. You can tell by looking at the field of contenders like a horse race. The dogs are obvious as are the winners.
That said I still keep seeing attempts by McCain to bail out. Things will change if that haooens. Let’s give it a few more months.
