Time to grab the neighbor’s cat and take up art!

The book these came from said some of the paint jobs cost $15,000 And had to be repeated every 3 months as the cat’s hair grows out. Must be nice to have $60,000 a year just to keep your cat painted!

What a weird thing to do to a cat. They’re from this book:

UPDATE: Turns out these pics are fakes.

  1. Mike says:

Did the cats give their consent, and if not, where are the “animal rights” loons?

  2. Gregory says:

They are fake (and obvious photoshops) but the book is pretty funny to flick through in a book store.

Real or not… that first pic makes me a saaad panda.

  4. Angel H. Wong says:

    Photoshopped cats.

This is so off-the-charts weird that I’m glad to see it’s a phony book. However, the seed of an idea has been planted, and pet owners have a history of finding new levels of strangeness to express pride in their pet, so let me suggest a few guidelines for cat painting:

    1) Safety first! Cats should never be painted with lead-based paint. This should be a no-brainer.

    2) Cats should only be painted in the privacy of their own home. They should never be taken outside after painting and displayed or paraded in such manner that they develop shame issues and require psychological pet therapy.

    3) Cats should always be allowed to have full control when choosing colors. Cats often have strong color preferences, and this is only common courtesy for the pet you love.

P.S… I think Uncle Dave just likes an excuse to say “pussies” 😉

  6. Ballenger says:

You really don’t need to be an expert on Photoshop forensics to know this is a humorous fake. All you need to know, is what can be learned from trying to give a pill to a cat that doesn’t want one. The only pigment that would end up on the cat would be from your blood. It would be much easier to take the rectal temperature of a wolverine with hemroids, beside a string of fireworks going off, than to paint a cat. The scary thing about this story is somewhere, a person who has heard about this is looking at a can of Rust-oleum, his cat and thinking, “wonder where I put all my NASCAR templates?”

  7. Chris Swett says:

If I did something like that to my cats they would kill me in my sleep.

  8. Greg Allen says:

This book is more than humorous — it’s brilliant!

Like the Snopes site said, it’s a double spoof — triple if you now count the urban myth part of it.

My cat would need general anesthesia for me to paint it. Looks cool, though.

  9. Mr. Fusion says:

    #7, Ballenger,

You almost make that sound like a challange.

  10. Jeremy says:

I had no idea that anyone thought that these books were suposed to be serious. I would never have even thought that snopes would cover this, since I thought that it was so obvious that it was all a joke.

Even if you knocked a cat out with gas it’s breathing would still move its body. Trying to get the paint to look that perfect with cat hair moving around would require enough hair spray to make that entire coat solid.
