As a culture critic this routine has always been interesting to me, especially as a Carlin devotee. My momentum is to find Carlin funny and he has all the delivery I love to make this so.
BUT, the fact that he is wrong on every theme position he takes does take away the funny.
He makes a common Science Denier error in failing to recognize that MAN MADE CHANGES occur on a time scale not present in “nature.” This is true for species extinction, which given Human Caused Global Warming, could well include ourselves.
RIP.
btw: deleting all the posts on that other thread without explanation…………. is not respecting the forum AT ALL. Whether by mistake, or on purpose……………no respect.
Carlin was obviously wrong about man-made ability to affect the environment in negative ways,
but overlooking that small gripe, rewatching that Carlin segment makes the early/mid 2000s seem like a golden age of comedy.
Their was Carlin, Penn and Teller, and the 2 guys with a lion at the Mirage hadn’t been mauled by lion at the time.
Refreshing good-spirited humor seems a bit lacking these days.
Simpson’s actually predicted the mauling by a decade. DVD commentary, the writers said, it’s really not a bold prediction…

His global warming is perhaps the most succinct and level head view of the hysteria at the time.
