I am fairly certain that none of this nonsense about the destruction of US Civil War History would be an issue. I also think the right would have shrugged their shoulders, gotten over it, and moved on with their day to day.

Trump is supposed to be a leader, and he always claimed he would provide better leadership than Obama.

I disagree entirely. While I prefer the second statement made by Trump where he called out Nazis, white supremacists, etc, the first statement was the superior one.
Everybody wants him to declare these people ‘deplorable’, and it is easy for him to do. There is the possibility that he thinks these people make up a large chunk of his supporters so he is reluctant to do so. However, look at what he said in his first statement. The other part of Hillary’s statement was ‘irredeemable’. This Trump is not accepting. His statement was not about them, it was to them. He was saying that you can’t consider yourself American if you have such hate. I do not support you if you are like this. While their leader attacks Trump because his daughter married a Jew, many of the people there were probably Trump supporters, and mostly young. Trump was trying to actually change things, instead of taking the convenient political position. I would not be capable of such grace.

When a statue honors Lee as the great soldier that he was, only a liberal could find it in himself to mitigate that by considering unrelated thoughts or actions Lee harbored.
