Look ma – no hands! This is what’s in development at Tesla. 8 cameras, long range sonar, better radar, and a supercomputer to process it all. Capable of Level 5 autonomy. Level 5 means a car that doesn’t have a steering wheel.

I’m still pissed off that I can’t buy a truck with stick-shift. I happen to like being in control.
Someone still gets it. 🙂
I got a 6.2 V8 with a six speed manual. I too like the control of my vehicle.
I bought a new Harley a few years ago and it was the first motorcycle I’ve ever owned that didn’t have a kick start. Salesman didn’t understand why I wanted a kick start.
Even he didn’t get it.
The option to have both electric and kick start shouldn’t be difficult for Harely to integrate. Back in the mid 70’s my first vehicle I owned was a BSA 441 Victor, an oil leaking son of a gun to kick start. I did wish the bike had an electric start, I went through a couple of set of kick start gears till I figured out the at what cycle to kick.
If I were to buy a current bike I’d ride a Triumph Bonneville.
They should call it the Tellsla, and have Marc Perkel standing in the middle of the road as it starts from miles back.
With an IPad on his head, playing video of a SpaceX landing on the gigafactory.
Prediction!
With autodriving cars who would listen to the radio when you can stream Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, etc??
Without the drive-time ad revenue, how is radio going to survive?
Gee, what could go wrong? I’ll start:
1. Zombie cars with no humans on-board.
2. Cars on an autopilot loop with people asleep in the back seat.
3. Homeless people on welfare with just enough income to perpetually live in the subsidized car that’s programmed to stop at Mickey D’s three times a day.
4. And oh, what the terrorists will dream up.
This pipe dream will be legislated to death. Death by a thousand legal paper cuts.
It doesn’t matter how it dies, just that it dies.
Alternatively, I will willing take a test to prove that I am one of the few people capable driving a manually controlled vehicle in the same sandbox with everyone else without causing trouble.
Oh, you’re right.
It would be very easy to launch a coordinated bunch of bad things using illegal alien drivers licenses and rentals.
I’m going to live in a shack in Montana.
Poor sad liberal. 😥
The video starts by saying he is just there for legal reasons and isn’t actually driving. Notice his hands are always right next to the wheel. I think these cars would be a stress nightmare.
I don’t see how this is ready for prime time without a bunch of people dying to “get the bugs out”.
In California on a sunny day on perfect roads with crisp line markings.
On a day like that it’s more fun to hit the pedals and turn the steering wheel through the turns. Stay Alive.
Marc have you asked Felon Musk for the $100 million he stole from California taxpayers?
“I couldn’t have any respect for someone who’s hero was a criminal” Ray Kinsella.
He didn’t steal anything. California gave it to him.
No, he stole it with his fake fast battery swap stations. Why isn’t Elon locked up for such blatant fraud?
HA!!!!
I’m usually the Luddite on this forum, poo pooing the notion that exoplanet human habitation is at all doable…..((I do believe it is “doable” but to do it would be prohibitively expensive and just not acceptable to most people.))
I suspect what is going on with you knuckle draggers is comparing AI Driving to perfection? AID will never be perfect…………………….
…………………….. but it is ALREADY better than…………………. you know its coming……………………….
……………………Human Drivers. Yes…….it sucks to be us.
The future is: AID and EVERY accident to be evaluated and a software update to the entire fleet as deemed warranted. Have you all read that some huge number like 2-3 million men drive vehicles for a living and those jobs will all be gone in 10 years? along with body repair jobs??? Along with most maintenance jobs as vehicles go electric and so forth?
STRUCTURAL UNEMPLOYMENT.
………….all calling for a basic guaranteed income from Uncle Sam. Ha, ha. Sit on it.
“not acceptable to most people”….meaning not acceptable to PAY for it.
Liberals hate jobs and prefer to have people be dependent on them for government handouts.
You nailed it.
bobbo has no concept of self-worth, and that human beings that derive pleasure through their work.
Ha, ha. NoFu*kingSense: completely irrelevant rubber stamp.
didn’t even draw Pedro in.
As you have nothing substantive to offer, let’s play with words:
“Conservatives hate jobs and prefer to have tax depreciated robots perform all labor with the displaced people dependent on government handouts.”
So much more cogent.
You’re ahead of the times, compared to the knuckle draggers here. Computers help just about All cars built today, ABS, Night Vision, Traction Control, and Adaptive Cruise Control, built by robots, with some human interaction needed to manufacture, let alone drive by wire. But not for long if looking at the long game. Humans will be completely out of the loop, those in control will have the power of transportation. Freedom, HA…
I won’t buy or be around for the singularity, thanks to the flying spaghetti monster.
Not everyone lives in a city or even near a main highway. I cant imagine trusting this on snow covered mountain roads.
“Resistance is futile. Your lack of imagination will be replaced by the collective knowledge of the Hive.”
Nice video. U really liked the car.
