The biggest story in the news right now isn’t Donald Trump. The biggest story is the NSA was hacked and the “Keys to the Kingdom” were stolen. Someone managed to get hold of the NSA’s hacking tools used by their Tailored Access Operation unit. (TAO) What this means is that leterally everything that civilization depends on is now exposed.

These tools exploit flaws in the operating systems of the computers and routers that make the internet work. The NSA keeps these flaws secret rather that informing companies like CISCO and Juniper of the flaw and give them the opportunity to fix them. The NSA has put their need to spy above the security of the world. And now the unthinkable has happened. Hackers have the power of the NSA and they could bring down civilization. Think of it as Y2K on steroids.

The responsible thing for the NSA to do right now would be to immediately warn all the computer and router vendors and let them know about these flaws so that they can begin patching their systems as soon as possible. It might already be too late. I doubt however they are going to do the responsible thing. And a very scary world we will be in because of that.

In 2013 I personally confronted Nancy Pelosi at Netroots Nation in San Jose where she was booed for defending the Bush/Obama NSA spying program. At that event I warned as many people as I could that this very thing might happen. That whoever hacks the NSA has the power of the NSA. And now what I warned about has happened and they still don’t get it.

  1. NewFormatSux says:

She was booed by you. So it was one person, who when the opportunity came to reveal hacking of Hillary’s server which would have elected Bernie who would fix the NSA, you took a pass.

    • TiredOfMeReporters says:

You personally confronted Pelosi……how does that make you feel? Powerful or fills a insecurity gap. You lose all credibility when you start thumping your chest. Your a reporter….just report.

  2. Phydeau says:

For a take on this from a fairly reputable site, check this out:

    https://yro.slashdot.org/story/16/08/17/1256207/nsa-worried-about-implications-of-leaked-toolkits

Interesting that some think it’s a “honeypot”, i.e. it’s really the NSA itself pretending to auction off hacking tools, and catching some wannabe hackers.

    • Rick Perry's Favorite Hemorrhoid says:

Thanks for that. Was about to ask.

    • jpfitz says:

It’s a scam. The code will be junk, most bitcoin sales like this turns out to be a ruse.

  3. JR says:

Our government isn’t going to do anything about it. Why? Because all of the agencies are meant keep the “little folk” in line and under surveillance. While the puppet masters continue to live behind the curtains, running the show, untouchable.

    • Ah_Yea says:

      Yes, This is the truth.
      Why give up power?

I wonder if the toolkits themselves are hacked by the NSA and the thieves are unwittingly infecting their own systems, turning them into tools for the NSA?

I doubt it, but it would be interesting.

  4. Mr Diesel - says:

The biggest story in the news right now? Please. It isn’t even close.

Ryan Lochte lying about getting robbed in Brazil is the top story right now. I suspect that his three buddies will sell his ass down the river for lying as they now have video of their “robbery”.

All it took was a little alcohol to piss away millions in endorsement money. What a dumbass.

Most important story? Maybe. biggest story? No.

    • Phydeau says:

More like the other way around… Lochte has already left Brazil, the others will face the music without him. I agree, celebrity BS.

  5. Mr Diesel - says:

And Obomba still golfing while Louisiana floods is bigger too. As I recall he said something about George Bush being incompetent after Katrina. Hardly. I was down there with three days of the storm ending.

Obomba is once again proving himself to be the the most worthless piece of shit ever.

    • Phydeau says:

Thanks for the flaming wingnut perspective:

      1. X happens
      2. It’s Obama’s fault!

      Repeat as necessary.

      • Ah_Yea says:

        1. Yes
        2. Just as much as the levees were Bush’s fault.

      • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Careful Phydeau….all Diesel has to do is come up with a suggestion as to what Obama should have done instead………………….. HA, HA……….WHAT THE FRICK AM I SAYING???? You’ve got nuttin to worry about.

Mindlessly Bitch and Moan: its all the WingNuts have.

((I do recognize we are off topic now regarding the NSA toolkit….but I blame Obama for that too!)

        • Mr Diesel - says:

That’s the difference between the left/right and Libertarians, I never said I blamed Obomba for anything. HE clearly said Bush was inept in his handling of Katrina (not the case) and yet his worthless ass (Obomba’s) is still golfing.

Bush never golfed during his presidency after putting troops in harms way. That’s the difference between class and ass. (For the mentally impaired Obomba would be the ass.)

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

So==>NO IDEA at all at what Obama should have done, yet you feel free to criticize him.

btw: is calling anyone a worthless pile of shit a compliment in your house? …. to the rest of the world, it sounds like you are blaming Obama for everything…your denials…..ha, ha. Yep. Not man enough to even admit what you post.

Silly dishonest hooman…. show us more.

          • Mr Diesel - says:

            One thing Obomba could do.

Get off the golf course and visit the area. If he genuinely cared about anyone other than refugees and illegal aliens he would put his boots on the ground and show up Bush’s just flying over after Katrina.

As for worthless piece of shit being a compliment in my house I must apologize to pieces of shit everywhere in comparing them to Obomba.

I don’t blame Obomba for everything, just the malaise in this country for the last 7.5 years and especially the racial tensions that he personally has increased for his stupid comments.

Harvard professor, Treyvon Martin, Micheal Brown but yet hasn’t opened his mouth to say anything about a Milwaukee cop shooting a gun toting thug. Oh wait, they were both black. I guess that ruins his usual diatribe on cops acting stupidly. It’s only white cops shooting black thugs that are a problem.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Saw a news report of the Governor of LA heaping praise on Obama for agreeing to immediately send Federal Aid to LA to help them out. He might have said that Obama called him first…but not 100% on that. Asked if he wanted Obama to visit LA, he said nothing directly but rather that Obama was welcomed to come if he wanted to.

All a President’s visit does is screw up traffic….which is what YOU would be complaining about if Big O did as you suggest.

Typical Puke: not a single fucking idea in your head. With practice and the desire to do so: you could get better. Too much fun for you to stroke your ill temper though.

Sucks to be you…… or around you.

          • Mr Diesel - says:

That’s funny, I just saw a bunch of reports of people asking him to come down to LA.

The POS has time to campaign for the bitch but not even do a flyover in his fancy personal plane, you know one of the two 747s he gets to fly around in.

It’s a bitch when someone picks on your hero doesn’t it?

          • Mr Diesel - says:

Oh yeah, James Foley gets beheaded and he talks a little and goes right out to the golf course. Terrorist attack and he is doing the wave with Castro.

Johnson visited the victims of a hurricane.
            Clinton did.
            Bush did a flyover.
POS In Chief works on his handicap, which in this is the people who blindly support him.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Gee Diesel: I thought I was CLEAR ENOUGH that a presidential visit DOESN’T DO ANYTHING. Its nothing but PR…the doing is behind the scenes as to what kind of aid and how much of it is provided.

THEN IN THIS CASE: educating the public that these 1000 year weather events coming every other year are “consistent with” human caused global warming and the need to take action to get to green energy…and remove co2 from out atmosphere. A required Moon Shot that would guarantee an Earth for our Grandkiddies and lots of good jobs now stimulating the economy.

But too many Science Deniers like you ((I assume…as Obama is for it BECAUSE of the science??)) are causing more harm than you will ever come to recognize….dying off a few decades too early to face the undeniable.

Your equanimity is noticed and admirable. You should follow that path and better educated yourself….because right now: it sucks to be you ((voting against your own best interest because you enjoy calculated lies ….)))

          • NewFormatSux says:

We were told that Hurricane Katrina was caused by global warming and we could expect more and bigger hurricanes because of global warming. Since then a record 4000 days of no landfalling US hurricanes, and total cyclonic energy index is down too.

Basic logic says that IF A THEN B is the same as IF (NOT B) THEN (NOT A).

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

NFS–right you are as in with any/every complicated issue, there is lots of misinformation for all kinds of reasons from innocent to calcuated.

“We were told….” //// is complete BS. You should learn to avoid such constructions. WHO TOLD YOU? Some individual…even if qualified???

Stick to qualified and reviewed statements from reputable sources like the IPCC.

As referenced: the number of 1000 year weather events is becoming all too common…but I’ve heard the same complaint: “Not enough typhoons…” but I never get who said it, the cautions and limitations issues with the warning/prediction and so forth….ie: BS.

Its physics: when ocean surface temps increase, there is more energy transfered to storms for all kinds of issues like total rainfall, wind speeds, duration, size etc. The fact, if true, that X weather event did not occur in Y spot is all part of the variability.

GLOBAL CLIMATE: is not one spot…even as large as the East Coast of the USA. Meanwhile other records for rainfall, floods, drought, heat are being set every month.

You know: the big picture…not the isolated exceptions.

          • Mr Diesel - Libertarian says:

bobbo, there is one thing that a presidential visit does that is immeasurable, it exhibits empathy for the people impacted by the event.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Mr Diesel–with the attitudes you express, now you say you want an “empathetic president” to attend all natural disasters in the USA?

What do you think the USA is? A NANNY STATE??????

I’m one of the libs on this forum and all such visits are pure hokum taking valuable time away from golfing or other important presidential type things.

I guess, we are all a mix of needs and emotions?

          • ± says:

bobbo is totally correct about the president wasting his time on what is total BS. Like a stopped clock. Correct or close to correct occasionally.

I’ll take it a step further. The president nosing in on any domestic problem is total bullshit (think the beer summit and Trayvon, etc.) is just toadying up to the unthinking sheeple. And I agree that bobbo has correctly pegged Mr. Diesel as being a component the D/R hiring electorate.

  6. Shootin the Poop says:

No. They “get it”. What you don’t realize is that they DON’T CARE!

I tell you, it’s a human evolution virus! And it shows itself when your neighbors and other complete MORONS say insane shit like, “I’ve got nothing to hide. I don’t care if the NSA wants to watch me.”

If you can stop people from not caring about being treated like some kind of digital cow, we might have a hope. Unfortunately, that’s the INTELLIGENT side of society. The UNINTELLIGENT side are employed by the government!!!

So maybe, you can see the uphill battle you’re up against with yawn-stories like this. (Personally, I’m pissed and ready to take up arms! But then that’s really nuts!)

    • pedro says:

“The UNINTELLIGENT side are employed by the government!!!”

And post in this blog under the fido screen name

  7. jpfitz says:

Same old story. NSA creates leaking security system. Honey pot, didn’t everyone watch MR. ROBOT.

Floods in lowlands are Obombas responsibility to fly over? Or land and take away manpower needed on the ground…Stupid to do either. Man you buggers are fixated on one thing…that damn black Kenyan in the oval office, or emails, it was Benghazi for a long time. Gee wiz, it’s a broken record with you haters.

I think there is a conspiracy to flood the south gulf area to wash away all the Black folk, then whitey can come in and make a big old fishing hole for themselves. Terrible, right? Just another crackpot theory that some would find enticing.

  8. jpfitz says:

And by the by if DT gets his “wall”, whats to stop all the predatory flyers from Mexico crossing the border with the intent of picking up small children and doing something really really terrible. HUGE problem. lol OMG!!!

  9. NewFormatSux says:

IPCC said the same about hurricanes, which was in fact against the science, as pointed out by Roger Pielke Jr, but they refused to correct it. One expert, appropriately named Landsea, resigned from IPCC because he felt the science was being exaggerated for political purposes.

The scientist activists make claims that go way beyond the science, then when the predictions fail to come to fruition they deflect they way you are deflecting now, saying it was a minor part of the story, or the prediction was made by people who are minor.

Yet at the time these faulty claims are made, they are happy to keep quiet and let the public be frightened by their predictions of the damage global warming will bring.

So why should we believe the doom and gloom scenarios they peddle now?
They declared snow would be a rare event within a decade, then ten years later said that record blizzards are consistent with global warming, even caused by it.
Hurricane Katrina was a sign of things to come, and now we see nothing for a decade, the longest such gap ever recorded. Maybe they should declare that fewer hurricanes are a result of global warming!

    • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Again, ALWAYS, with the unsourced vague “they?”

NFS: I CALL YOU ON YOUR BS! YOU ARE JUST COMPLETELY FULL OF IT!!!!—full of the BS. Sad, as from just your posting, we can see you have the intelligence to do better.

Name a single thing you believe today even as a “given” that was not finally arrived at by a series of mistakes, errors, frauds, misstatements, guesses and so forth.

TODAY: 97% of qualified CLIMATE scientists who have stated or revealed a position on the subject agree with or simply assume with no statement required that AGW is the FACT OF THE MATTER. In addition, 100% of formal organized scientific organizations have issued formal position papers agreeing AGW is the FACT OF THE MATTER. The last one to get off the neutral stance was the American Society of Hydrological Engineers (sic–whoever they were…posted the history here a few years ago) as they are directly funded by and serve BIG OIL.

BIG OIL like BIG TOBACCO a few years back simply LYING THEIR ASSES OFF about what they know and how they manipulate. Why do you think 20 years ago Standard Oil made plans to drill in the Arctic?

Using your brain as a door stop is NOT pretty. but that’s on you for whatever reasons you have. Can you state them??? Always amusing to find the basis for what SCIENCE DENIERS claim. Was it colder than usual when you got up to pee yesterday? Was that it snookums?

we are either MEN OF SCIENCE, or ignorant fucktards allowing our emotions, ignorance, and indolence to be played to our harm like a violin made from refuse. You can change sides…when you get honest with the evidence.

…………………… but I’m not going to hold my breath.

      Silly Hoomans.

  10. NewFormatSux says:

    >we are either MEN OF SCIENCE, or ignorant fucktards allowing our emotions, ignorance, and indolence to be played to our harm like a violin made from refuse.

    Talking about yourself again?

    > 97% of qualified CLIMATE scientists
BS stat from more faulty science. The SkepticalScience forum was hacked, and their e-mails showed that they rejected using a certain method as flawed, then the paper used this flawed method when their original method didn’t give them the numbers they wanted. At least you didn’t repeat the talking point about global warming skeptics believe the moon landing was faked.
Bart Verheggen did a better review, and came up with about 2/3 instead of 97%, though he tried to hide it and claim a higher number.

    • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

I accept you 66% figure and stand pat on 100% of formal statements from scientific organizations including those funded by BIG OIL.

How long do you want to be pinned before admitting defeat based on your own agreed to facts?

      • NewFormatSux says:

Sure. What makes you think the output of a scientific organization will be scientific, when even the IPCC gets so much wrong on the subject? Do you think the people writing an USGS policy statement are conducting a review of the science? The APS actually did, but the opposition views were ignored in the final result. The impact was enough that they actually held off on signing a recent statement.

Statement from James Annan, a global warming scientist, decidedly not a skeptic. He frequently makes bets against skeptics.

“The paper I refer to as a “small private opinion poll” is of course the Zickfeld et al PNAS paper. The list of pollees in the Zickfeld paper are largely the self-same people responsible for the largely bogus analyses that I’ve criticised over recent years, and which even if they were valid then, are certainly outdated now. Interestingly, one of them stated quite openly in a meeting I attended a few years ago that he deliberately lied in these sort of elicitation exercises (i.e. exaggerating the probability of high sensitivity) in order to help motivate political action. Of course, there may be others who lie in the other direction, which is why it seems bizarre that the IPCC appeared to rely so heavily on this paper to justify their choice, rather than relying on published quantitative analyses of observational data.”

Scientists lying to motivate political action.

        • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

I only wish they would lie….my concern re AGW is that the scientists are too laid back.

They are…. only hooman, more interested in the details of the systems than in preventing what they otherwise know is going to happen.

Then, silly people like yourself who try to turn accepted science into a huge worldwide conspiracy theory.

          Plain silly.

          • NewFormatSux says:

Do you support building 1000 nuclear power plants?

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Of course not. and only if for the fact that a distributed power structure makes so much more sense. Not liable to terrorist attacks, no system crashes because of “too large to lose” power centers and so forth.

Don’t even have to get into the issues of radioactive waste. The FUTURE: is ahead of us….not in the rear view mirror.

          • Mr Diesel - says:

I’d support building 1000 LFTR power plants.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Mr D..no doubt, and you’d be living in the past. As stated: don’t even need to consider waste materials….or as your program would still have: environmental disruption due to mining the nuclear fuel. but why do you avoid the import of green energy?

ITS DISTRIBUTED, or not concentrated in high capital cost complex centralized locations subject to being easily knocked off grid.

Greed and Stupidity. How can we avoid it?

          • NewFormatSux says:

Hard to take seriously your belief of gloom and doom from global warming, when you don’t support nuclear power.

If there are terrorist attacks, radioactive waste, etc, at most you kill millions, while saving billions.

          • NewFormatSux says:

How have you determined the scientists are not lying to you now?

          • jpfitz says:

NFS you can live near the plants of nuclear power. I worry for your safety, earthquakes, hurricanes and tornados will multiply the dangers. Cancer clusters and terrorist attacks, not to worry…right.

Just ignore the spent fuel rods, there is no safe storage for the radioactive material.

I got an idea, clean coal.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

In a free market, green/solar energy is already “on par” with fossil and nuclear fuels. Take away the vast assumed and in place subsidies and exceptions made for fossil fuels and nuclear is WAY behind.

The cost curve has been won…now we just have to kill all the dinosaurs to allow solar to provide the clean, safe, cheap energy that all of mankind needs to continue on to the 23rd century.

A year ago I would have posted that Nukes could be used as a transition to green energy but with Moore’s Effect in place with Green Energy, as said above, the cost curve has been met: no need for Nukes except to fund the Big Corps that deal with those industries. Much more diversified and localized for green energy—additional reasons to go in that direction “even if” it was more expensive==>because its not.

SCIENCE: staying up to date, and not stuck in a rears.

          • Mr Diesel - says:

The only way your so-called “green” energy is even close to cost effective is if the government subsidizes the cost.

          • NewFormatSux says:

JP, I’m not denying the safety issues. But for people who think that the current path means the end of civilization as we know it, it should be a small price to pay.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Mr D…not for you but for others who may be misled: as stated: Moore’s Law: the cost of solar declines by large percentage every year.

What was true last year….. is no longer true. For “conservative types” like you who take pride in never changing your mind EVEN WHEN THE FACTS CHANGE….. its hard to stay current.

The argument used to be that solar was cost competitive “if” you added back in to coal and oil all their costs that were transferred to the public sector…but AGAIN AS STATED: for about 1-2-3 years now solar has been cost competitive with Big Oil in the market as it is skewed right now….and the costs will continue to decline.

Much of the variability in analysis is what you use as the useful life or ROI on solar as it functions long past its tax depreciation schedule and so forth.

            Try to keep up.

          • jpfitz says:

NFS, The continued use of the common fuels, from charcoal to Nuclear energy, Will alter the Earth, and if continued with the current population growth, then, I posit civilization ends. I don’t know when or exactly how, but, the future Earth will be devoid of humans.

        • NewFormatSux says:

Bobbo, you have contradicted yourself within this thread.
If Moore’s law and other factors are making solar and wind competitive and in fact cheaper than coal and oil, then there is no reason for a moon shot. You should just sit back and relax, and don’t be like the one-third of mental patients who obsess over global warming.

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

NFS: thank you for the rare fact based response. Wrong, misinformed, and short sighted, but at least “fact” based.

That means: what you need is some edumacation: YES: green energy is already cheaper than coal and oil even in the jiggered markets of today. Why not just let the market continue as it will do? Because Coal and Oil has a 200 year head start. The in place infrastructure required by Green Energy will take only a few decades to replace the Fossil Fuel infrastructure but we are already time-passed-due to be off Fossil Fuel ALREADY. Taking a few more lackadaisical decades to be too late to the party IS THE VERY ISSUE that a moon shot is meant to overcome.

Actually…we are already in the age when more than green energy is required…we need to develop and deploy co2 NEGATIVE programs as well. My favorite is taking co2 from the air, add some sunlight, and some 21st Century Magic, aka Science, and turn it into cement. Sequester the 100 years of carbon we have put into the atmosphere.

Like so many of the issues in AGW…its not the facts in isolation as you present but facts in motion…how things are changing and the momentums built up and the time it takes to turn those momentums around.

I knew you could do it. Once? Keep at it…there is a whole world of ideas out here. dive in.
