The estranged son of the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church said his father is “on the edge of death.”

Fred Phelps Sr. became famous for organizing picket lines of brightly-colored signs carrying hateful messages against tolerance during the funerals of military personnel and famous figures. His actions led to at least two federal and several state laws restricting protests during military funerals.

  1. Dan Huttner says:

I hope its painful and prolonged.

  2. WmDE says:

In a country with an average age at death for men of 77 he lived to be 84 so far.

    Kind of draggy ass karma.

  3. observer says:

Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing. — Macbeth (Act 5, Scene 5, lines 17-28)

  4. Benjamin says:

Phelps will have to go before God to explain why he misapplied Scriptures. That’s a fitting karma. Meanwhile, we can show up to his funeral holding signs that say “God hates Fred Phelps.”

  5. noname says:

Why is it, ass-wipes become the people they hate.

Hatters all yous and no different!

  6. Flatline says:

I try not to wish evil upon people. Having said that, Phelps truly tested my resolve in this area. If you believe in the afterlife then, let someone higher up take care of it and trust that he will get what he deserves. If an atheist, take comfort in one less source of negativity in the universe when he dies. I am trying very hard not to have a measure of schadenfreude…it can only pull me closer to his level.

    • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo says:

Its not what you think and feel that is of ultimate and most relevant importance: its what you DO that matters and tells.

Anyone not happy that Phelps is near death has no soul.

Sadly, there will be too many also happy to take his place.

  7. robb the moldy one says:

i like the signs at his funeral great idea!

  8. Beevis says:

True Karma would be if he were dying of butt cancer!

I’m pretty sure I could care less about that asshole. But it would be pretty poetic nonetheless.

  9. Somebody says:

I honestly can’t decide if it to our credit or shame that nobody shot the son of a bitch.

I concurre. It is weird; it does happen from time to time; it has been attributed to the spam filter — copy your nicer replies to notepad or something if it happens again.
