WTF? Good work Samsung!

  1. ± says:

    Wow. No. Words.

So Mr. Dvorak, what is the closest you have come to this?

    • Frenchy says:

      I was going to comment but… I’m sorry. I just have to… I’m sorry.

  2. super77 says:

Someone should have taken the time to read or rehearse their speech or at least have an idea of how to explain what you do for a freaking living.

  3. Kyusoath says:

wouldn’t it be so sad if he killed himself ?
no more of those great transformers movies.

  4. Plastic says:

    Amazing.

I just gotta wonder what his (Bay’s) other meetings are like. Although I’m betting it’s probably no different than any other board meeting in corporate America.

The motto here seems to be: Pump the bullshit and if you can’t pump it then bail! (After all, you’re too rich for these morons.)

  5. Captain Obvious says:

Samsung is such a weird ass company. Their commercials are creepy and their product rollouts are forced and ugly. I don’t who is handling their marketing but they are even worse than Microsoft.

  6. Shaunvis says:

Seriously, how freaking hard is it to wing it on something like this?

Off the top of my head:

“These amazing new tvs will get you closer to my vision of the films I make. The detail is unprecedented. Colors appear more realistic than ever and the sharpness will make you feel like you’re there!”

“What about the curved angle? Well tvs should be made for you, the people sitting front and center. By having the screen curved it presents the best possible viewing angles so you see everything and it just envelops your view!”

    Was that too hard?

    • Tim says:

      “Fucking thing sux.”

      a little more succinct.

    • noname says:

Just shows how scripted many people have become.

It’s a sign of the computer age. First came the machine age that supplanted human brawn and muscle; now, in the computer age we have computers to supplant human intelligence and brains.

Such a automaton, like a Call Center worker, it’s unwise, not well informed or just too difficult for this guy dialogue off script?

Obviously this director didn’t write his own script or have time to read and understand what he was spouting out to the audience! This should be a clue to average people not to listen to these meaningless “speeches”!

I have to agree with super77:
“should have taken the time to …. have an idea of how to explain what you do for a freaking living”

And heaven forbid, I have to agree with bobbo:
      “Why blame Samsung for this?”

  7. denacron says:

    I blame the seafood buffet.

    Like this maybe 😀

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q_gQG7qlvWo

    …true story…

  8. Troublemaker says:

I know several people that work for him.

He’s not a very well liked in the industry, at least by people that work on his crews.

I’m sure a lot of them are taking a tremendous amount of delight in this video tonight….

  9. AdmFubar says:

wow i wonder how high this guy was…..and maybe still is..
maybe he’ll want to go yachting

  10. US says:

I place my bet on it being a setup. Great marketing move. Samsung is getting more press coverage than they otherwise would in a very crowded tech news cycle.

    • Plastic says:

You may be on to something here.

(What won’t those marketeers stoop to?)

    • Frenchy says:

Another possibility is that with all of the douche-bags vying for TED speaking opportunities, and similar speaking situations, this could even be a satirical jab at the “rush to the stage” by attention seekers

I hope South Park takes this on…

  11. bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas says:

    Why blame Samsung for this?

I assume any director can “direct” even himself when a prompter goes bad. Must have been an off day for some reason.

The Transformer movies really are garbage though……. yet people get rich and famous.

    Culture.

  12. Just Dave says:

Apparently this guy has screwed things up before. From the Engadget website: “This isn’t the first time Bay has pulled one of these — back in ’09 he nuked an LG CTIA press event by pulling out a Samsung cellphone on stage. Oh…and his movies suck also.

  13. dusanmal says:

Welcome to an age of Obama: people in power who have no clue.

    • bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas says:

Say Duce—I think you have finally revealed yourself. As stupidly/humorously anti-Obama as you know who is pro-Obama. Now that the poles have been established, I do believe that Dallas is being funny. So now, I laugh at myself because I don’t think you are being funny by intent, but that may say more about me than you??

Can you help me out? Are you this subtely funny a la a long running Colbert Sketch, or are you this retarded?

People who want an honest laugh want to know.

I do think in cases of ambiguity, the words should be taken at face value unless clearly meant otherwise.

Therefore, you shall remain Douchanus until you show otherwise.

      Yea, verily.

      • jpfitz says:

        Seconded !

A bit of a broad stroke there by dusanal. He has brains but no common sense.

    • Captain Obvious says:

It sounds like you’re really going to enjoy the age of Hillary.

  14. Frenchy says:

It’s easy to criticize, but many people just can’t do public speaking.

I myself get very freaked out when I’m up on a stage.

If you watch Bay you can see, he’s out of breath, probably there’s a ton of adrenaline in his veins.

    At least he didn’t faint…

    • sargasso_c says:

Nice to hear a sympathetic response for a change. The teleprompter lost sync, he wasn’t prepared to silently wait on stage while they fixed it, he had done what he was paid for. I always pretend to faint in these situations, or signal someone to set off the fire alarm.

  15. Jerry B says:

The only thing missing is John C ringing the bell after the samsung guy says “So” at the end!

  16. LibertyLover says:

Actually, I think he did the right thing.

Look at what happened whenever Obama had a teleprompter “malfunction.” As a nation, we’ve learned quite a bit from him and it’s good to see the lesson has sunk in — “If you don’t have someone telling you what to say, shut up.”

  17. tom says:

Publicity stunt – viral video for samsung.

Every local news station said ‘samsung’ over and over again in their ‘news’ story.

Backroom, “let’s turn off the teleprompter and see what happens.”

  18. bob korngold says:

John, “The Best Computer Program is now on your Radio”, let’s bring it back.

You were one of my great guests from the Back cover of Computer World.

Are You a grand father yet?

    Check out my website.

  19. jpfitz says:

How many of these curved screens would be needed to create a complete circle? Fully surrounded by screens with sound coming from all directions for the ultimate video game experience. The FPS video gamers will be drooling.

    • Tim says:

The developers will still find a way to bork the field of view with their crappy ports.
