Here in Vegas where at 6:30pm, it’s dropped down to 112 degrees, your Uncle Dave ran across this video from a few years ago which has a cool, wintery ending. Ha ha.

  1. bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo says:

Video won’t play for me. ((I see a flash that is is “waiting for twitter”))

Yes–record Heat Wave. Only common sense, not Science, tells us this is CONSISTENT WITH Global Warming.

    Silly Hoomans.

    • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo says:

Scratch my comment. My flash player isn’t working elsewhere either.

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science--certainly not of Computers says:

OK–First time I have ever updated “Java” when prompted to do so. And I managed to do it without having the “Ask Toolbar” installed…. so far. That bastard gets installed about once a month.

Why do software providers actively piss off those whom they wish to attract? …….

((TV says 100 years ago this date the temp was 134 F in Death Valley. You could’ve fried an egg on the road, if they had a road back then.))

        • Fork Bomb says:

You don’t need Flash for this video if you use a web browser that fully complies with HTML 5 standards.

I uninstalled Flash some time ago (I don’t even install it on the Linux side) and have had no problems playing this and many other videos.

It also seems to be a Youtube hosted video – not a Facecrook video – too.

        • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo says:

Thanks Fork–the video started playing for me when I updated something from Adobe. but Youtube still did not play so I updated flash and Firefox as well as my tools tab/add on manager/update service said to do so. Everything is playing just fine now.

I don’t know if I am happy or sad I don’t know this technology better. Seems like the kinds of effort/problems only changes as you gain knowledge as opposed to them going away?

          • Fork Bomb says:

Seems I forgot about a tiny little browser add-on called “Youtube Flash to HTML5” that I use with Firefox (and is probably why I don’t need Adobe’s “Flash Player”). And since both Chrome and Firefox internally support PDF’s (although you have to turn it on with Firefox) there’s really no reason to deal with any more leaky insecure Adobe products – or support. That is, assuming you’re in the 90-something percent crowd who only deal with Flash and PDF’s.

Now, for some even more serious digression (getting off track)…

But giving Adobe the “heave-ho” is not so easy for most people since they’ve grown too accustomed (lazy) to relying on Adobe not only for their Youtube and other online video fix but for their PDF document fix as well. Frankly, it’s habitual and the argument I always hear for not considering an alternative is that same old lame brain mantra I hear elsewhere: “it’s easy and it just works, so why should I even care?”

Here’s why: ADOBE (BIG BUSINESS) IS BAD! And I could go into it much further. But let’s just accept the fact that nearly every BIG COMPANY like Adobe doesn’t always have their customers best interest at heart. The simple fact that Adobe has always had security risks which even now often require updates should be enough evidence of that fact.

Think how this would equate if Adobe made cars. Would you take your car back to a dealer or even have the dealer come to you if your car perpetually always revealed some kind of safety problem? For me, the answer is, no. And I will probably be looking for alternatives. I would probably even avoid the manufacturer (if I could) since I would be much less likely to accept anything coming from a company that all too often just tells me half truths.

Computer software is really no different. And where computer software or even operating systems are concerned, there are alternatives. However, as you may have guessed, those alternatives are often not as easy to deal with since it often takes more effort than most people aren’t willing to give. Most people would rather sit down and passively watch a few hours of TV than think! It’s a fact that Big Business and even governments are keenly aware of and will often take advantage of.

We consumers (citizens) don’t need to give Government / Big Business any more help! We need to educate ourselves and seriously consider alternatives when they become available. But we don’t do that. Collectively, we give control right over to those “elite few” when we don’t care to learn or REMEMBER!

I call this phenomena a laziness of mind that results in lemming-like behavior. We’ve seen it in religion for thousands of years. And we can see it starting with computer technology. But what really pisses me off are the political fools who claim they are enlightened but are really just too lazy to see the same master but with a different MASK. (Here’s a hint as to what I mean: to be a political candidate OR a preacher requires the SAME SKILLS.)

“Hoomans” often can’t/won’t see any truth usually because they have grown too accustomed to seeing the lies — probably because those lies have been too easy to BELIEVE!!!

Don’t believe Adobe (or your leaders)!!!

          • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo says:

Thats not “off track” but a major freeway to somewhere else.

            I enjoyed reading it though.

  2. deowll says:

You might try looking at pictures of Yellowstone or Yosemite in winter.

The high here was 84 and that is maybe ten degrees cooler than the norm.

    • bobbo, are we Men of Science--certainly not of Computers says:

Do-ill “why” do you push this anti-science crap?

I push AGW because I believe Science is the best way to the truth and sound social policy that flow as a consequence. Anti-Science is corrupt–usually some business interest not wanting to change its ways fearful that it will lose some profit.

What kind of buggy whips do you current earn a living from?

      • kiwini says:

No, you push AGW because you just like mobs.

If you indeed “believe Science is the best way to the truth”, maybe you should take a look what Freeman Dyson has to say about selected fudgery in the “facts” that the AGW crowd uses to promote their versions of the truth, just like you do. 🙂

And the vid played just fine, despite being just another bucket ‘o weird on YT.

  3. noname says:

Uncle Dave I thought that looked like you.

  4. TooManyPuppies says:

This video is why my daddy shot Sandy Claws on the roof when I was a kid in 71.

    • jpfitz says:

Late comment but every time I read tmp’s comment I lol. Thank you for the medicine.

  5. bobbo, the iconoclastic non-conflating non-dogmatic existential Idol defiling cynosure says:

On the nature of our Political Overlords:

“Most people think of a psychopath as a rare creature found only in the lowest levels of society. However, the reverse is true. They are not rare, but actually quite common, and you are more likely to find psychopaths in the boardroom than on the wrong side of the tracks. The reason is that, the more competitive a particular environment is, the more ruthless the use of the Cheating Strategy becomes. Within the highest circles of power and wealth, a lack of pity and remorse is practically a prerequisite to success, and only the psychopathic mentality can thrive. Living at the expense of the rest of humanity would be an impossible situation in a rational society.”

….. and their rabid partisan ditto head FERP’s are their victim class/base. Must suck to be a true believer.

    Yea, verily!

    • TooManyPuppies says:

Thanks for that thorough and in-depth review of the film. Your talent is a film critic is riveting!

  6. AdmFubar says:

i see the nsa uses santa clause disguises now

  7. Msbpodcast says:

He sees you when you’re sleeping.
    He knows when you’re awake.

    … Big Santa is watching.

    • noname says:

He sees you when you’re sleeping.
      He knows when you’re awake.

      ….NSA is watching.

  8. Fork Bomb says:

Seems you got that title a bit “bassaskwards”. Here’s my suggestion:

A Short Horror Story Whose Villain is Someone Who Knows You!

  9. jpfitz says:

Information Awareness Office was the beginning of the data mining and snooping on Americans and foreign subjects. Millions were funded then TIA was borne from IAO. TIA was supposedly shut down but was turned into a black NSA project still being funded thru congress secretly now know as PRISM or Santa.

  10. The polar ice caps are melting not because of greenhouse gases but due to the heat generated by the computers Santa uses to stockpile the zettabytes of surveillance data he has collected on all the boys and girls of the world. The annual gift ritual known as “Christmas” is just a ruse to misdirect our attention from his real intentions.

The Claus operation gives new meaning to the term “permanent record.”

  11. Yeah !… life is like riding a bicycle. You will not fall unless you stop pedaling!!…
