Clearly, she should be sent to Gitmo. After a good tasing, of course.

A Florida teen with an exemplary record is facing federal charges after conducting what a classmate calls “a science project gone bad.”

16-year-old Kiera Wilmot is accused of mixing housing chemicals in a small water bottle at Bartow High School, causing the cap to fly off and produce a bit of smoke. The experiment was conducted outdoors, no property was damaged, and no one was injured.

Not long after Wilmot’s experiment, authorities arrested her and charged her with “possession/discharge of a weapon on school property and discharging a destructive device,” according to WTSP-TV. The school district proceeded to expel Wilmot for handling the “dangerous weapon,” also known as a water bottle. She will have to complete her high school education through an expulsion program.
[…]
“She just wanted to see what happened to those chemicals in the bottle,” a classmate added. “Now, look what happened.”

Polk County Schools stands by its decision to expel Wilmot, asserting in a statement, “there are consequences to actions,” and calling Wilmot’s experiment a “serious breach of conduct.”

Oh, well. Another potential career as a chemist thwarted by the man.

Wait, they still need chemists to produce GMO for Monsanto…

    • msbpodcast says:

      Its getting all computerized now.

Monsanto needs chemists, geneticists, environmentalists, publicists, marketers, shippers, the usual coterie of working schlubs of modern enterprise, and to rule them all, they need accountants (people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing…)

      They don’t need students.

They can get grunts with just enough learning from their H1B pool of cheap foreign labor.

Eventually everything you can know will be computerized (and cheaply, efficiently and instantly be reproducible, [ask an accountant how he feels about DRM and you’ll get a look like you’ve got blood oozing from your second head. DRM doesn’t apply to accountants.])

Someone once called it “gods waiting room” which, when you think about the religious connotations is pretty fucked up. Some might even say that the souls leaving Florida are like Earths SPERM!

It might also explain why Cuba decided to revolt rather than become another U.S. territory too. After all, who wants to be conquered by a bunch of homosexuals wearing nylon sport coats and thong swim suits? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

And is it any wonder that a lot of good football comes out of Florida? You’d be pissed off too if you got schooled in Florida – no one ever LEARNS anything!!!

“Zero-tolerance policies in the United States became widespread in 1994, after federal legislation required states to expel any student who brought a firearm to school for one year, or lose all federal funding.”

This may be a major component of why crime dropped steadily starting around this period of time. I wasn’t aware of this, but this same legislation may be why the student has to be expelled in this case.

      • Anti-whatchagot says:

Mostly because school aged kiddies don’t commit much crime.

I do agree with your foundational point though that zero tolerance policies that are implemented in a zero common sense way are an abomination to what is required for the human spirit to take wing and soar.

take the ZERO TOLERANCE for guns at school. I can say I agree with that. As has been posted here, that policy does not mean that a child that turns in a gun found at school applies. Nor that making a gun image with ones hand and pointed finger applies. Or that drawing the picture of a gun applies. Or that saying the word gun applies. Zero Tolerance is not raised by these examples.

        Only the stupidity of man.

If anything, I would question the time, effort and motivation to even report this story. Because it’s not like we didn’t already suspect the state of “Fooled-Ya” and their public education system for doing crazy crap like this. It’s also not like Florida or any other state really has much of a CHOICE when Washington micro manages everything either.

…Meanwhile, the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches did something today. Would you care to take a guess as to what that was? Care to ask a “journalist”?! (Could you be any more idiotic?!)

If you’re really stupid enough to expect news journalists to report on real stories then you probably should be aware of the number one rule in any news agency: Don’t report on anything (in Washington or anywhere else) if it doesn’t involve sex, money or something that will let the news machine sell the audience more floor wax, insurance, or boner pills.

Liberals have already dumbed down education in public schools, then refused to support vouchers so black kids could go to a better school. It’s important to keep those black kids from getting educated, and has been for over two hundred years for liberals. Now they are just not allowed to be as obvious about it, where previously they simply passed laws saying it is forbidden to teach a slave to read.

This is important, as liberals’ elections are based on having low information voters.

“or liberals. Now they are just not allowed to be as obvious about it, where previously they simply passed laws saying it is forbidden to teach a slave to read.”

MikeN you’re so full of it; why are Repukes so evil?

In Revolutionary times, the conservative position was to remain loyal to England.

It was liberal Enlightenment philosophers intellectuals promoting all men are born with inalienable natural rights.

Slavery was an institution to be “conserved,” and gun protected by southerners; but, it was liberally educated and open-minded Americans and northern abolitionist who fought for Africans to be born with the same natural rights as Europeans.

It was the liberal North that outlawed slavery and the conservative South that first fired on Fort Sumter to keep it.

The Emancipation Proclamation was “anything but conservative”, which freed any remaining slaves!

As with today, the North is still enlightened and more progressive then the more conservative South!

    • MikeN says:

Liberals will happily cheer along to Django Unchained, but liberals are still trying to keep guns out of the hands of blacks. It is the thing they fear most, because they were the slaveholders.

Bartow High School, the oldest high school in the Polk county, located in South Central Florida Ridge in the I-4 corridor which is considered the most conservative county in the corridor!

What can you expect from evil conservative zealots?

Conservatives only know science must be condemned and harmless events must become nightmares and conservative must force an anti-science religious indoctrination in public schools!

        • MikeN says:

          >To Repukes, all science is witchcraft.

We’ll see how liberals react to the new study that is a followup to the old study that Medicaid vs uninsured shows no health benefits.

Before that we had John Lott’s study that more guns produces less crime. He gave his data out to liberals so they could respond to his study. Later, Lott lost his data in a computer crash. When he asked the liberals for copies of his data, they refused.

What is it about liberals that cause them to vilify everybody that disagrees with them? Why do they have such contempt for others in practice? Why so egomaniac? Why the need to walk in lockstep? I don’t get it. I started off admiring liberals but as I came to know them I realized they were the least liberal people on the planet with absolutely no tolerance of dissenting views! To me the title liberal is now a total oxymoron.

Unless you have further details, I’m left with the suspicion that DU hasn’t done anything except carry some code that does something that nobody here cares about….and neither should Google? Like…what? Maintain our cookies so we don’t have to log in?
