    This is another reason why “trains good, planes bad”. Up drafts, down drafts, or any kind of atmospheric disturbance. Don’t mean a damn thing to a diesel electric locomotive. It doesn’t depend on the sky being near ideal conditions, to go any place. Just so long as there’s clear, undamaged track ahead. But flying is always a calculated gamble.

      Yea, but they are a real bitch in sudden earthquakes, tsunamis, or when the kids put pennies on the track.
