you guys nailed it with the food truck mention in the last show. up where i live there is one that comes on thursdays that sells interesting little dishes that are grossly overpriced. one of them being ‘poutine’, the canadian treasure. it’s rich and sloppy, but when it is consumed at the proper time, nothing beats it. i think the trick is offering something unique, or rare. clashing tastes that go together. and yes, the irony is that many people, namely if they live in the city, and have disposable income, will gladly overpay for this stuff. i’ve also had this discussion with friends before as well, as you did last show, which gave me a nice laugh. i typically refuse to spend my money at this particular truck, not because of the price, as you said, the line usually never justifies the wait.

Mac-N-Cheez was, is and shall always be poor people food and stoont vidlze.

At a recent demonstration the students hurled boxes of the stuff at the minister of education who was trying to tell them that the recent tuition hike was supposed to be for their own good. The students were engaging in their own version of catch and release and dutifully collected the boxes after the minister and his bullshit had been chased away.

The 1%ers eat the gooey glop out of a sense of irony. They often get it made with al dente duram-semolina pasta and bleu cheese at $15/plate served with a bottle of riesling white wine, or perhaps some abbey beer from Belgium. Its enjoyed on fine white china with silver-plate utensils and crystal.

The 99%ers eat the gooey glop, if they have to, out of necessity. Its not even blue boxes from Kraft but the “off brand” grocery store powdery, salty crap that you mix into the cheap-ass macaroni. They usually have it with a glass of water, or if its a special evening, like Friday, with a can of Bud or MGD. Its shoveled directly from the dented and scraped cooking/mixing pot with a cheap aluminium fork and the beer come straight from the can.

The 12,400 billionaires have no sense of irony and eat some local game, usually some endangered animal like oryx steak, with fries and have a glass of red wine from their own vineyard attached to the chateau. The accompanying pasta is made on their own farm from their own wheat, which also grows the vegetables.

John had a point about people padding expense accounts. The issue here is that no cuts from last years spending level are in the works. The sequester only cuts the rate of increase. It should have been built into the budgets for the year but apparently the people in charge didn’t see the need. The Repubs tried to pass a bill allowing our dear leader to arrange exactly where he thinks the cuts are best made but for some reason H. Reid isn’t interested and neither is Obama. So far as I can tell neither has actually suggested a budget themselves.

This entire thing is just Obama saying I want a blank check and oh yes raise taxes on the fools that voted for me. Just don’t do anything to my major supporters like the one percenters in Hollywood. After all M. Moore and his fat cat friends deserve to keep all the money they make because they worship me.

TWiT.TV appears on Bitgravity now, whereas it used to be Ustream.  How does one cure fat-face syndrome (FFS)?  Is there a setting in Firefox?  Am trying to watch TWiL live.  They all have fat faces.  Like my cable TV which I am about to get rid of.

TWiT hosts that insist on having microphones fused onto their faces are unwatchable.  As is FFS.

  6. t0llyb0ng says:

Breakup (the noun) is one word.

Moral disapprobation is a beguiling phrase but the two words don’t really go together.  Disapprobation suggests a consensus of negativity directed toward, say, a substance such as cocaine.  Should cocaine be legalized?  Probably.  But the idiot public views it in a negative light & so it can’t happen in my lifetime.

Joe’s bonehead notions of morality are not mine.  Morality is a personal thing & generally nontransferable.  Disapprobation is opinion & worth even less than that.

  13. Glenn E. says:

I said it before. That they’ll threaten to cut the Air Traffic Controllers. Should the budget sequester happen. But not cut the TSA employee numbers. Of course, after 9-11, the flight numbers decreased. And I doubt it has fully recovered. Add to that all the improvements to ATC technology, over the days of vacuum tubes. The results is likely that much fewer Air Traffic Controllers are needed. So why is the FAA budget always going up? Don’t the airports and airlines pay for any damn thing. Talk about the Railroads getting subsidized. What about air travel? Buses and Boats are the only forms of transportation not Federally subsidized. Or are they?

  14. Publius says:

The austerity (aka sequester) is only for the little people:

    Thanks to Hagel and Obama:

Immediate, massive civilian labor cutbacks to all the little people in the DoD.

Does not cut a single program or contract, 800+ military bases, endless war policy.

Great work, Obama and Hagel. Great work. Getting all the little people to scream bloody murder because you cut their incomes, that’s the way to get all your military funding back isn’t it. Let a million DoD little people do the screaming for you, while keeping all of the businesses and programs and bases intact.

This is how Hagel and Obama get millions of little people to scream on their behalf, for more money for DoD. Austerity for the little people only. War business as usual.
