  2. noname says:

Buying a brand is a strategy of either milking the name or being able to build something new using creative synergy that makes astounding new products.

However, these days’ acquisitions are really about Wall Street, Executive Management and the board making money off the deal and not about investing and building a better company/product.

    Only time will tell.

Time will tell us something. No doubt.

Experience already tells us that Disney will completely fsck up Lucalfilm, the same say they ruin everything else they absorb.

  5. Tony says:

People complained when Disney bought Marvel, but look at the great movies that merger produced.

    • Gwad his own self says:

Yes, yes. Film students will be studying those for the next 70 years.

  6. B. Dog says:

The neat part is that George Lucas gets all the money.

  7. Mark says:

Should be interesting! The great and creative Star Wars universe freed from Lucas’ terrible dialog writing and directing should make for some great movies.

  8. MikeN says:

Timothy Zahn wrote some nice sequels.

  9. George says:

How can it be any worse?

  10. MWD78 says:

i guess now that Leia is a Disney Princess there will be no more flirtations with incest…

    • Benjamin says:

Added Leia to the Disney Princesses list on Wikipedia. Surprised no one did it already.

  11. deowll says:

I don’t blame Lucas for selling but I now expect a lot of really bad Star Wars movies.

    • Benjamin says:

Worse than Episodes I through III. George never should have made the prequals.

  12. The Monster's Lawyer says:

Earlier rumors as the acquisition of Star Wars by Disney causing the break up of the long term relationship of Mickey and Minnie have been denied by Mickey. Mickey was overheard telling Lucas that he was leaving Minnie because she was f*cking Goofy.
When asked, Goofy denied any contact with Minnie but sources tell us they were seen together running lines for the new Star Wars movie.

    • noname says:

Sounds like you are angling to be Minnie’s divorce lawyer!

      How scummy is that?

Mickey and Minnie divorcing will inflict a savage emotional journey on American children.

I hope Disney money can soothe your soul while knowing how you have utterly devastated the hearts and fate of America’s children. 🙂

    • Gwad his own self says:

I’m curious about the relationship between Goofy and Pluto. Or maybe I don’t want to know if Pluto has a black neoprene suit in the closet.

  13. Ho-Lip Tex says:

    Joss Whedon to direct, please!

Also, above comment by “voyance” is blog-spam.

  14. MikeN says:

Lucas sold ahead of the Obama tax hikes. And now corporations get bigger.

    • Gwad his own self says:

Or maybe he sold ahead of the Romney economic debacle/meltdown.

You sure don’t have much confidence in your candidate do you?

Or was that just another opportunistic example of oral diarrhea?

      • MikeN says:

No, he thinks Obama will win, and this saves him $500 million in taxes.

Why should I be worried? 10 years ago an election turned into a blowout because Democrats insisted on unions over national security, causing a guy who lost 3 limbs in Vietnam to lose his race. Now crews helping with the hurricane are being turned away because they are not union.

  15. Glenn E. says:

Disney. Suckers. Lucas just made up those extra chapter numbers. Both before and after 4-6. It took him decades to get around to writing (or using what others wrote) up stories to fit the chapters 1-3. And most fan probably found it lackluster, the second time around. Basically it was all to rekindle the sales of SW merchandise. That’s why Portman had to change costumes for every new scene. And do that weird face makeup. So the toy figures would of her would be made in multiple versions. And of course, Jar Jar Binks was made for the tots to play with, who don’t care that he’s a terrible character stereotype. Star Wars is heavily after-market toy driven. And only the original story was better than that. What followed, with Ewoks and such, was just to drive up the toy sales. Now it’s Disney’s turn to try and reap what it can from that market. After the collectibles market fell flat for Lucas’ older two storylines. Not willing to keep the Skywalker legend alive. I suspect they want to develop the Leia legend. To exploit the untapped young girl SW toy market. That’s what most of its marketing line has become, the last two decades. Heroines and Princesses. “Brave” is a good example of that. So SW7 will no doubt be Luke’s royal sister, taking up the fight against the Empire. While Skywalker becomes a dark & solitary, supporting character. Who is rarely seen. But steps in at key moments to save Leia. And keep the boy toy market alive as well. Cause girls like to have one of each.

    • Gwad his own self says:

Yeah, but… how UTTERLY AWESOME would it be to have an epilogue movie, with Leia played by Carrie Fisher? You could throw in a scene with a resurrected jabba the hut that pointed out that you can’t tell them apart without seeing which one has the teeth. (Hint: not carrie fisher.)

    • MikeN says:

He even made up 4-6. Star Wars was only listed as Episode 4 when Empire Strikes Back came out. Original release said no such thing as A New Hope. It is clear from the prequel plots he has no clue. Even the re-release of Star Wars is confusing. If Jabba the Hutt is letting Han go on good terms, then why is Han on the run from Jabba?
