Most important – Phew! He made it safe and sound. Felix Baumgartner.

Allot of effort and expense to break a record, Good for him.

    • dusanmal says:

Capitalist expense and effort. To achieve. To get return on achievement. Red Bull and Felix did it. Bureaucrats and Progressives collectively gnash teeth in disapproval of individual excellence, doing something out of ordinary and to most of horrors, not involving Government in the process and making a lot of money from it. Oh, their horrors, oh the Capitalist achievement.

      • stormtrooper 651 says:

When do we get a speech from obama condemning these millionaires and billionaires who should be using this cash to pay more tax instead?
And where’s Al Gore berating these people for selfishly and needlessly burning tonnes of hydrocarbons and destroying the planet in their millionaire and billionaire games?
Besides, these guys didn’t achieve this feat, it was us 47 percent.

      • noname says:

        dusanmal, you’re such the tool.

You throw terms like “Capitalist” around much like Marx did. You seem well versed in Marx’s works like, The Communist Manifesto (1848) and Capital!

Now you need to take time to read one of our documents here in the United States of America. I recommend you read our Constitution. The first Amendment is a quick read, it’s about one of our freedoms, Free Speech!

      • jpfitz says:

You don’t know shit from shineola, progress is in the word progressive. Go back to that strife riddled country you came from. America is for free thinkers who look to the future. Most of the comments you make seem to just want to divide people. I don’t care how educated you are, common sense is a wonderful attribute. Let’s see some from you without your derisive slants.

        • noname says:

jpfitz your prime example #1 of the “Typical Republican Hypocrite”. Your blog is as void of derisive slants, as your brain is full of shit!

You don’t like free speech then go to Russia or where ever pedro is from!

jpfitz you and pedro both are such the Angry Ideologues and definitely not “free thinkers”. You obviously believe blogs are for, puppies, happy flowers and Tea party blather that you can’t stand anything else!

Really sad and good luck with that shrinking republican brain of yours. Karl Rove, FOX News and the tea party now have full control over your thinking now!

I look forward to enjoying your reply and responding!

  4. Van says:

That’s one giant leap for a man.

  5. Glenn E. says:

Wasn’t this based on a movie made back in the 1960s? Who’s title I can never remember. Because they’ve never showed the damn thing more than twice in 30 years! And not at all in the last 20. Maybe this event will make them dust off the old color print, and show it on TCM or AMC. But I’m not holding my breath.

  6. Dominick says:

How did this become a political issue?!

    • Captain Obvious says:

      Some obvious stats:

      – 128,100 feet exit altitude
      – Freefall time 4:20
      – Max speed 833.9 mph
      – Mach speed 1.24
      – IQ for politicising thread 47

    • jpfitz says:

I watched the space jump and saw nothing that would invite politics. But… The usual nutjobs here inject worthless banter about politics. Same as it ever was.

      fantastic and exciting jump.

  7. msbpodcast says:

Thank a whole pantheon that gravity still works.

    Oh that’s right.

Gravity isn’t mentioned in the bibble, qoran, torah, vedas or any other religious tract.

    He could have fallen up.

The fact that he didn’t is, wait for it, a mystery.

  8. Ah_Yea says:

I wonder if he could see Global Warming from there, because it ain’t here!

“The world stopped getting warmer almost 16 years ago, according to new data released last week.

The figures, which have triggered debate among climate scientists, reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012, there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures.

This means that the ‘plateau’ or ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. Before that, temperatures had been stable or declining for about 40 years. ”

    http://dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2217286/Global-warming-stopped-16-years-ago-reveals-Met-Office-report-quietly-released–chart-prove-it.html

Yup, I had to say it since the Liberals will never admit they blew BILLIONS of dollars on a worthless scam.

  9. MikeN says:

Obama needs to do this to save his campaign.

    • msbpodcast says:

I’d like to see a major non-partisan effort and witness members of both houses as well as the incumbent and the candidate attempt this feat, but without suits or ‘chutes.

This I feel would at last end the bickering over the spoils of our wallets and the entrails of our bank accounts.

  10. John Andrews says:

Felix can thank God that I lost my bet!

  11. B. Dog says:

The man has plenty of guts — nice going!

  12. .... says:

Lol at you guys trying to turn this into a triumph for Capitalism.

GOVERNMENT COULD HAVE DONE THIS IN THE 50’s if they didn’t have their sights set higher.

  13. .... says:

Good for him by the way!

  14. msbpodcast says:

“If it wasn’t for these neural implants, he’d be a smokin’ crater by now.” – Terran Marine, Starcraft.

  15. MartinJJ says:

Imagine free falling faster then the speed of sound. Quite amazing. What does it feel like? It probably feels like nothing is actually happening. No sound either. Up to a certain point you go faster and faster until the increasing air density starts slowing you down again. The only risk is spinning around as the almost lacking atmosphere is not causing much friction to keep you going down in a certain position. You could clearly see him spinning around for a while also. That actually could have killed him. Maybe he should have had some kind of steering chute to keep him upright? Though I doubt that would work up there. Or maybe some kind of airodynamics on his suit to achieve that?

  16. dcphill says:

I just don’t understand why anybody would jump out of a perfectly good balloon ride.

  17. bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas says:

    GREAT threads.

I like the idea that if you take out the politics, and you take out the religion, all thats left is the ……. technology of it? Thats not even interesting though.

I give this thread 100% for humor and mixing it up. The only usual BS not appearing is that our gravity tester is a “hero.”

The report I saw mentioned that the jumper was equipped with a drag chute that would pop out if the negative g’s in a spin exceeded 3.5. He did spin, but not that fast. Negative G’s==blood rushing to your head, and in this case feet. Causes a “red out” instead of a black out.

Yep, proving something can be done that has no reason or purpose to be done–except make money. Does sound like capitalism.

  18. shooff says:

Who will top it? Will this become the next Everest for thrill junkies?

I remember watching bungee from New River Gorge in West Virginia thinking…..this is for crazy people.

Fast forward 10 years and they are jumping from cranes in the bar districts nationwide late 1980’s.

What’s next for those with unlimited money and time on their hands?

  19. MikeN says:

Didn’t Roger Moore do this in Moonraker?

  20. Glenn E. says:

Aw, he didn’t ride a boogie board down. I hope the next time it’s done. The guy tries air surfing most of the way down. Thus proving, as in the closing scene of “Darkstar”, that it could have been done!

  21. Hi, i feel that i saw you visited my web site thus i came to return the desire?.I am attempting to to find issues to improve my web site!I suppose its adequate to make use of a few of your ideas!!
