    Coincidence?

  2. Glenn E. says:

The military has been accepting far less than sterling character recruits, into the ranks, from some years now. Probably in all the service branches. But the first time I heard about it was a Tv report about how the Marines was ripe with former street gang members. So Neo-Nazis ending up in the ranks too, shouldn’t surprise us at all. The recruiters really are just like Used Car dealer, in that they’ll push anything thru the paper work. No matter how shoddy the quality is. They’re just interested in meeting their quotas. And getting promoted. Let the system weed out the rotten apples later. And that may only happen after they’ve gotten trained to be even better badasses. Or they’ve actually been shoved into the field of war, and then brought back as unstable. And then quietly kicked out.

Meanwhile their history is covered up, so the military doesn’t take too much blame for dumping them back on an unsuspecting civilian world. And yet, DHS only seems to worry about foreign trained terrorists. When the US services have been nurturing the domestic brand for decades. Remember Lee Harvey Oswald?

    • deowll says:

Nah, DHS is worried about Vets, Conservatives and Tea Party members, Christians, just about anybody that isn’t a communist/liberal/progressive. If you don’t have a twitter account or Facebook account that might get you listed as well.

Of course they are collecting data about everybody.

I wouldn’t say that the military breeds racism… far from it. But it generally is a very conservative organization, particularly in the officer ranks. Even the non-white Marine officers I’ve known were far more likely to be conservative republicans than not. And I have seldom been inside a Marine Corps building where Fox News wasn’t on the television… if that is a signifier of anything…

Here is a high-res photo for Adam from the Curiosity mast camera:

    I love my Greek yogurt.

    • Glenn E. says:

That’s nice. But I don’t what everyone expects to see. There aren’t going to be any breath taking vistas. No Martian Grand Canyon shots. Any place too rugged would be too hazardous for the machine to venture thru. So most of the time, it’s going to look exactly like this first photo. And not much more interesting, in the near future. Perhaps toward the end of Curiosity’s lifespan, they’ll start taking risks to get more exciting views. So the next Mars explorer project can be funded.

        Looks like the Mojave Desert.

Wait a minute, I think I am onto something!

  5. Glenn E. says:

Two things. First the expired food deal. In New York, they use to have a thing where leftover food, from restaurants and grocers, was collected to feed the poor and homeless. Major Bloomberg probably did away with that. But I think it could be expanded to food banks, getting the slightly expired processed food stuffs. Because anything processed generally lasts days or weeks, longer than the stamped dates. But big box grocers probably would rather poor people starved. Than to lose even the tiniest bit of business, by giving away expired food.

Second. I think the end clip that JCD mentioned, of O’Reilly’s “word of the day”, got lost. All I heard was the first clip of his hyperboli of how a theoretically example of “hard drug” sales, was equal to opposing MJ sales and use. No one is advocating that “hard drugs” use be decriminalized, to my knowledge. But in order to make his extreme point valid, O’Reilly has to make all drugs “hard drug”. And anyone holding a few pills, is automatically a dealer of hard drugs. Well by that logic, Rush Limbaugh should be in jail for his “pain killer” hard drug abuse. That fat ass drug pusher! But no, it’s ok to be an addict, if you’re a republican blowhard on the radio. Just don’t be a teenager on the street, getting caught with a few pills in your pocket. Cause you’re going away for a while. It’s the mandatory edict.

In any case, if possession of anything potentially deadly, is considered jailable. Then why isn’t owning more than one or two guns, or a box or two of ammo, not also? Doesn’t owning ten guns and thousands of rounds of ammo, make one a potential unlicensed dealer? Either that or a warlord or privateer army. Neither of which, I think is protected by US law.

And where a few pills will very likely only harm the person stupid enough to experiment on themselves. Bullets don’t harm or kill innocent people, voluntarily or recreationally. Nobody has a choice or say in getting shot dead, in a shopping mall. And anyone “experimenting” or “abusing” bullets on themselves, is obviously committing deliberate suicide.

So why are all the drugs being demonized, as the ONLY people killers? When guns and bullets are given such a free reign of deadly use, under the claim of “self protection” and “recreation”? Not that I’m anti-gun ownership. But the logic of sending armies of armed police to take down someone growing a few plants in their basement, is upside-down and ludicrous. The vast majority of drug users and suppliers, in the US, AREN’T Columbian drug lords.

They’re just stupid and financial desperate people. And the f**ked up economy has left them little choice but to try selling weed, pills, or medicating their troubles away. But all the self-righteous Bill O’Reillys of the world can think of, is hard prison time, as the solution. I suppose that’s also the Republican Party’s solution to unemployment. Employ more of us as prison guards, to handle all the citizens locked up for drug abuse. Who aren’t Rush Limbaugh, of course.
