Honey, I have a great idea! I’ll drive the truck while you get between a bear and her cubs, mmmmkay?

  1. Tom says:

Just a human act of kindness.

  2. noname says:

    Compassionate Brilliance, Amen!

  3. bobbo, oozing with liberal values and compassion for my fellow man says:

Was interesting… the Momma backed off … but not too far and then came just a little bit back. Wifey was sure trusting the hubby – – – I could see the truck taking off and dumping Wifey on the ground right at the dumpster. THAT probably wouldn’t have worked out to well…….

I’d have done it with a more appropriate Shark Cage around me.

    • bobbo, oozing with liberal values and compassion for my fellow man says:

Oh–Id say gutsy as the bear didn’t show aggression from the get go and the loiter time was mimimal==and if the bear approached and the truck took off, most likely the Momma wouldn’t go far past her cubs. But I’m guessing.

  4. kmfix says:

The feel good moment of the day.

  5. Steve says:

Lemme see if she’ll take this marshmallow out of my teeth.

  6. deowll says:

A very kind, remarkably brave, very clever, and no doubt foolish thing to do but the good news is they got away with it.

This could have gone oh so very wrong.

  7. What? says:

Looks like Black Bears, NOT Grizzlies. Pretty safe then, on a relative basis.

  8. jpfitz says:

I’d vote the people who helped the bears out of the dumpster brave and dumb. I’ve come upon black bears with their cubs and walked away quietly and quickly. I was taught years ago to stay away from cute black bear cubs.

“For example, a black bear that grabbed 11-year-old Samuel Ives from his family’s tent in Utah’s American Fork Canyon in 2007, killing him, had apparently slashed another tent earlier that day. Last week, a judge awarded the family $1.95 million, saying the federal Forest Service should have warned them about a dangerous bear.”

    • What? says:

I know a guy who made an agreement with a black bear. The bear could have the pie, but the guy was going to leave with the cooler. The cooler was under the pie that the bear held.

The bear thought that was fair, and the guy was not sober.

Life is as dangerous as you want to make it.

I wouldn’t want to meet a Griz though, and I was fairly afraid of them when I lived in their habitat.

      Mountain lions too.

      • mharry says:

Reminds me of that joke about a bear whistle and identifying bear shit. The punch line was the whistle being in the shit, that was grizzly shit.

  9. UncDon says:

Everyone who drives a pickup truck is safe from bears.

    FACT!

  10. Zalo9 says:

If only politicians could act this way.

  11. TThor says:

    Gutsy or dumb?

Compassionate and kindness are better alternatives.

  12. Cursor_ says:

    Compassion = Dumb.

Only in baby-boomer era and later, self-absorbed, apathetic USA.

    Cursor_

  13. Dallas says:

Tree hugging liberals in action. Gotta love them

  14. Gary says:

A great act of kindness…….Too bad more people can’t treat other people with the same actions.

“And if you try a little kindness
    Then you’ll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets”

  15. Uncle Patso says:

Well planned and (relatively) safely executed. Kudos!

  16. Joe says:

    Looked safe to me.

  17. Brownbear845 says:

I would have done the same

  18. Yahweh says:

I support the right to arm bears.

  19. SchwettyBalls says:

This turned out better than expected.
