I used to give telemarketers a hard time, but as the economy got so bad and jobs scarce, I started feeling guilty. Their just trying to get by and live the American dream.
Love it, I will add this to my arsenal. Too bad it doesn’t work for robo calls.
And to Bob in Texas…if you are on the Do Not Call Registry..they have no business calling you, it is illegal and you shouldn’t feel bad.
ah. You must be the type who yells at the waitress when the cook was the one who fucked up your burger.
You think those wage-slaves who are actually on the phone had anything to do with the fact that your number is on the list they’re given to call?
“You must be the type who yells at the waitress[…]”
The difference beeing that my local restaurant doesn’t call me 3 times a week at really odd times trying to trick me into making a contract selling me a 2$ Burger for 99.99$/Month for the next 5 years…
“You think those wage-slaves[…]”
Sorry but nobody who gets into this line of work can tell me that they don’t know that they are pushing scams. They just don’t give a fuck, talking a 90 year old person into buying some overprized bullshit etc – If you keep that job you deserve everything that’s done to you.
I give you an example, On many occasions I posed as a mentally-challenged person answering the phone, always with the same result:
The caller immediately doubles his sales efforts, smelling an easy sell. That’s beyond disgusting imo.
I love getting the calls from political campaigns. They’re fun to fuck with. Those fools are usually working for free and they are working for the lowest form of life on the planet (politicians) so they are fair game.
But I don’t have a much fun now thanks to the outfit who created the robo caller “Rachel, from cardmember services.” I just put a call blocker on my phone so anyone not in my phone book or white list goes straight to voice mail. The do not call registry is useless.
The “do not call” registry is a waste of time. It’s great for your State Attorney General since he/she can always claim they need more funding since they don’t have enough resources to deal with this “minor annoyance”. But if the Attorney General ever started cracking down on every illegal call they might just have enough money to balance the national debt!!! At ten-grand a pop for every illegal call, it could add up! But what I can’t figure out why the RIAA/MPAA isn’t able to cash in on this. (It’s not like any of the stuff the RIAA/MPAA already claims to protect is really any of their business either.)
In any case, you might try hooking up a FAX machine to your line when you’re not expecting calls. Or just do what I do and quickly pick up and then hang up whenever a call comes across that you don’t recognize.
But if you have the time then it’s always fun to screw with these guys. Hey! THEY CALLED YOU! So F*** em!
I’m no Sea Lawyer, and I don’t know any Monsters, but seems to me pretending to be a law enforcement officer over a tool of interstate commerce would be real low on my list of responses.
…plus, it would make my answering machine almost useless.
redgreen,
had a GREAT idea on HOW to get off the lists..
1. call up a FAX line, and record the FAX machine..
2. rewind and wait for a call.
3. once you get one of the calls, PLAY the FAX..
this will get you listed as a FAX LINE, and they WONT call you back.
ALL lists, after 1-2 months will have you listed as fax.
Take the robo-call, wait for the idiot to answer, patch in to your stereo, play Barney’s I Love You at Volume 11.
@ECA
Being on a fax line list is even worst. My old phone number was previously a fax for a company and I got calls day and night from faxes trying to send me spam. List of fax numbers are sold to companies who want to do marketing. You can’t really prank a fax in never calling you again…
The No Call Registry works fine for me.
I have not had a call from a telemarketer in more than 5 years.
Just hang up..
Get a VOIP line! TMs don’t phone those numbers anywhere near as much. I’d say twice a year for me. Problem solved without childish revenge.
I wouldn’t mind being nice with them, but what bothers me is that they hung up on your face the exact second they’re done with you.
So I do the same, “not interested” click, problem solved
I just tell them that I’m broke, unemployed, disabled with multiple sclerosis and then I start on how hard it is being an orphan and they just hang up on me. 🙂
Tell ’em the truth and it has set me free.
Nobody call me again…
A scammer was calling multiple times a day… so …
I recorded the no longer in service tone and the start of the voice advising of the new number, then had my daughter record the number of the Sheriff’s department on our answering machine. My daughter sounds very much like the normal recorded voice.
We don’t get the calls any more, but I would LOVE to have heard what happened when the Jamaican crook got law enforcement on the line.
not all telemarketing is scam, some can help also.
