The Rx-8 was a sweet sportscar. I owned one for six years. Turns out the company had to run the fuel extra rich to pass USA regs because they designed it for Jap market. The result was ultimately too main engine seal failures in USA due to the overrich fuel. Doh. Also fuel economy was horrible due to overrich settings required by EPA — 16-19mpg is what we saw. It made 230-ish HP which was OK but not at 18 MPG. She handled like a Maserati however.
A nice looking car, as was the last RX-7. Actually the -7 was beautiful.
Nothing today has the classy good looks cars from that age. Supra (last gen.), Celica (3rd from last), NSX, maybe the first Impreza, RS Cosworth. Miata keeps getting better looking.
The GT-R is okay, but not classy ($90k). G-37 lacks some character, but has okay lines (next gen. will look gross if trends hold).
As someone said, cars today look like women with overblown fake tits, overflowing from their fenders. Low class leads the way.
The last gen Supra has to be one of the nicest looking cars eva.
Current models just don’t do it for me. Although I still like the M3 as far as styling goes. The Last gen Acura TL was a good design, then designers went nuts and destroyed it’s fine styling. WTF is it with the chrome grills.
MR2, second gen., also had nice lines. M3 is okay, but the one series looks better to my eyes.
The point is: after crashing an Rx-8, what would the previous owner buy as a replacement?
