A Michelle Bachmann fan hopes she can take it all the way
(click pic to embiggen)
Despite what’s happening in Iowa is pretty much meaningless in the grand scheme of things, if you lived in Iowa, were a Republican and could stomach one of the listed candidates or one of the write-ins, which one of da playas would you vote for?
There have been five times in America’s history when Iowa Republicans descended upon the grounds of their flagship university to gorge themselves on sticks of fried food, snap photos with some of America’s most famous politicians and, oh yeah, vote for who they want to be the next president of the United States.
GOP hopefuls, or more accurately Iowa hopefuls, have been dolling out campaign swag, snacks, sweets and speeches to Iowa voters in the hopes of persuading them to cast a ballot in their favor in Saturday’s Ames Straw Poll. But this vote, in every legal sense of the word, is meaningless.
It does not count toward the Iowa caucus nor does it play in the general election. In fact, historically it has had little correlation with who will be a successful candidate.
Of the five straw poll winners in history, three have gone on to win the Iowa caucus, two managed to secure the Republican nomination and only one has ever made it to the White House. Statistically speaking, a highly coveted win in Ames gives a candidate about a 20 percent chance of even getting on the ballot in the general election.

Anyone who uses world like “sophomoric” and “ergo” needs a whole lot of bourbon and some dancing to the blues. Or maybe a tequila binge.
# 58 foobar said, “Looking at the entire list of candidates from both parties, I think Animby is the best choice.” Shirley the GOP isn’t doing THAT badly!
Foobar: you are in rare form today. Thanks for the laughs.
Interesting how None + Democrat wins the poll by a strong margin.
That’s “you’re stupid” not “your stupid”. Anything else is, well, stupid.
Me fail English? That’s unpossible!
“it’s you who saw what you saw in the photo. You implied a particular interpretation to it, not me.”
I forgot the caption:
“A Michelle Bachmann fan hopes she can take it all the way”
Yea, I must have misunderstood what you were implying, Dave.
Or, who’s lying??
Oh leave her alone, since her husband is gay she doesn’t get much of an opportunity to chomp down on a fat one at home.
Winning a poll where the votes are bought at 30 bucks a pop.
Plutocracy at its finest.

reminds me why Nixon saw deep throat 10 times,
so he could get it all down pat!
Tell me bachmann-turner -overdrive doesn’t look
as crazy as a shit house rat?
Bobbo,
Bachmann would be more likely to discard the grees/sustainable “we’re all gonna die from Global Warming!” BS.
Bachmann would be more likely to do something to get the cost of fuel down so we can drive the SUVs we want instead of the electric go-karts the Libs are forcing on us.
Bachmann would be more likely to use a nuke on somebody who needed it instead of pussy footing around and wasting billions.
No, I don’t like her over the top religiousity any more than most here, but I can put up with it to get the things a that are important: improved American standard of living – all else is a side show.
BTW: Here’s your Vonnegut link: http://theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2011/08/the-neverending-campaign-to-ban-slaughterhouse-five/243525/
#74 – Is there a politician out there named Turner who could run as VP?
#75 “Bachmann would be more likely to use a nuke on somebody who needed it”
That single comment makes you both the craziest fucker posting here and the biggest idiot. Alfie on his best or worst day hasn’t said something as stupid as that.
Baxhmann needs good advisors. Like on her makeup. Those eyes are scary.
#75–Amabo==thanks for the link. Good detail there that has convinced me I need to read the book again. Amusing I don’t recall what makes it great literature, I only thought of it as a nice story and more about style and attitude than theme. I will also admit the profanity and anti-god aspects just went right by me as a matter of course. Who Cares? Something Vonnegut would have agreed with but probably criticized in his crafty way.
Its that way with the religious, they will fixate on what a reasonable person will not even notice and then call that focus on other issues hate and fear.
A very vonnegut miscommunication===and human condition.
As to what I take to be your ACTUAL real concern, that of improving the American lifestyle, you like Billy Pilgrim may be stuck in time? The only way GOUSA will improve its own living standard is by creating new industries thereby creating new/more JOBS. Its JOBS, JOBS, JOBS all the way down. In your attempt at humor, your focus on the end result of more consumption confuses effect with cause. We need SANITY to create new industries. I don’t think you will find that in a backwards looking religious loon, nor in a corporate raider with even less political backbone than Obama in the person of Romney. And so forth down the line.
Not a leader/idea person on the scene. The detritus of old worn out ideas and failed ideology.
We are indeed all doomed. More bad days must be experienced to break the grip of money and corporations on our society before a new sun will dawn.
Sad.
I voted for Tim Pawlenty at the Straw Poll in Iowa. I also sat and listened to all the speeches. However, I voted before the speeches. If I had listened to the speeches before voting, I would have voted for Herman Cain or Thaddeus McCotter. Ron Paul would be a close third.
Benji==specifically what was it that impressed you with your candidates?
and to those opinions, what makes you think they can actually deliver as opposed to just talk?
Michelle Bachmann worked for the IRS for 4 years as an attorney. Now she’s the darling of the TEA party?
The picture shows her lack of public decency. I assume she won the gag elimination contest…but still.
“Paul says they never learn, and they don’t.”
They don’t never learn?
They do learn?

What’s your point? Working for an organization sometimes helps you see the bad side; what could stand to be reformed, etc.
Gawd, I can’t believe you people are making me defend this woman! You attack her because she eats corndogs in public, is married to a dork, has bad makeup, etc. Good grief! Tell me why she’d be a bad president. I’ll tell you one good reason: in a world that is falling apart financially, and is under attack by terrorists and civil unrest, one of her top priorities is internet pr0n.
# 84 foobar said, “They do learn?”
You’re trying too hard to prove your expertise in English. That “..and they don’t” is an obvious confirmative clause. Not a double negative.
Pardon me for defending Alfie.
Animby, nothng to do with double negatives. I just like poking the bear. 😉
Personally I’m disgusted by this picture. A corn dog without mustard is revolting.
Here is Thaddeus McCotter’s speech: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qtVC5CR7b1s
He mainly spoke against the bailout and how the welfare states make people dependent on government and takes away the dignity and freedom of self reliance.
Here is Hermain Cain’s speech: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7R4t-XCCnS4
They had the best two speeches. Give them both a listen and hear for yourself.
I also liked Ron Paul’s promises to restore our freedoms and roll back the patriot act. He also wants to take the Fed to task and go back to a gold and silver standard.
I really hope that any of the three do really well. I do not want a Mitt Romney or any other Moderate Republic. I want a conservative that will roll back the Patriot Act, repeal Tarp, Obama Care, and the Wallstreet bailouts and restore America to its past greatness.
By the way, the picture you selected is in bad taste. It’s the state fair. People eat corndogs all the time. They had to probably go through a hold reel of film just to get that shot.
The Dems are down on their knees praying that Bachmann gets the nomination. The Republicans are down on their knees blowing…
#87 foobar – My apologies. And the no mustard thing, truly a gaffe on her part. Well-spotted.
#90 Alfie – Whatever very minor win you had has been completely negated by your comment here. I’ve known 9 year-olds with better manners and 6 year-olds with better intellect.
#92 – Foobar – You got that right. Bachmann is almost a dream candidate for the Dems. I don’t even think she’d be viable as a VP selection. The man she married is a true liability and the fact they’ve been together so long just proves she shares his screwieness. She might win a little more fame, maybe even the Iowa caucuses as she would run as a favorite daughter. But, if she starts getting too much traction even the Repubs will revolt and expose her fanatical side. Besides, Perry appeals to pretty much the same of voters and has a lot more chance of winning. He has the ability but I fear he owes too many favors. And, are the people of the US of A ready for another Texan in the White House?
“are the people of the US of A ready for another Texan in the White House?”
One of the significant collateral damages of the Obama Administration is:
Given a choice between the last president and the current president, the former might actually win.
Ergo, many would welcome another Texan in the White House.
I’ll take the current RepubliCON in the White House, over any of the idiots currently running. At least he can say more than “tax cuts.”
Don’t blame the photographer about being an opportunist. Anyone who knows how to act, when in the public eye, knows better than to eat a dil.. I mean hot dog like that. At least they should, unless they want to be seen eating a pen.. I mean frankfurter like that. When your mug is in public view, you better make sure you don’t show/say anything you’ll regret later.
That said: Bachmann/Palin 2012!
#95 Now that’s an endorsement.
Animby 2012
Vote early, vote often.
I guess I’m not familiar enough with the inner workings of GOP politics, so I have a question. Does Jesus anoint his chosen candidate from the very start, or does he wait for the people to make their choice and then just endorse the final Republican candidate?
It doesn’t seem like Jesus could ever endorse Mitt Romney.
Gary, The only thing that Jesus does for the GOP candidate is mow his/her lawn, and do a little carpentry, for less than minimum wage.
#95 Alf – Such eloquence!
