Here is the latest conversation I had with money manager Andrew Horowitz…. new insights for anyone who invests in anything. This week we look closely at what appears to be a classic mixed market.

Nice pic of the Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. Was there last weekend.

    Ref: Apple store customer base
I go past a mall store regularly at 11 or 12 in the morning and it is full of geezers. The 20 yr olds are at work (and besides they can fix their own computer problems). But the geezers are all over the store having someone show them how to type on an Ipad or find a picture file they lost. Maybe the new guy can show Penneys how to actually wait on a customer, something most of the other department stores are poor at doing too.

    Here is some good advice.

“Message to Barack Obama: It is time to panic. … Obama has been consulting a number of CEOs from leading Fortune 500 firms. The overwhelming consensus to jump-start the economy appears to be an endorsement of a cut in corporate tax rates. This represents a fundamentally flawed approach. Why? Because corporate tax cuts represent a supply-side response to a problem that is fundamentally one of poor aggregate demand. … Take a page from Ronald Reagan’s playbook and cut all marginal tax rates significantly. Or embrace a full payroll tax holiday for every employer AND employee in the nation. This will have the dual effect of increasing the take-home pay of those working for a living which will help sales and employment, as well as cutting business costs, which, in competitive markets, works to lower prices. A “win win” for businesses and consumers and vastly superior policy to another unnecessary cut in corporate tax.”

    A very smart article.

Yeah! The Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens Va. I rode that thing about a dozen times, back in the 1980s. But somebody else, with even less of a life (at the time) than me, was going for the record. I just rode it until I got it out of my system. I rode every ride, in every park in the three states surrounding MD. That’s VA, PA, and NJ. Since that year, I haven’t ridden a damn thing. I really did get it out of my system. And I got a green and yellow Loch Ness Monster cap to prove it.
