As cool as that is.. there is are no dynamics to the sounds. On/Off. A pressure sensitive iPad I hope is in the future… Then truer feeling in the sound will be present.
It is a musical instrument. What you really need is talent.
#1 there kind of is, with the piano and drum kit it uses the accelerometer to try and work out how hard you hit the screen. Works quite well in most cases (though sometimes it doesnt, its still quite amazing though)
Way back when the apple II was still a great machine I keyboarded in a tiny program that allowed one of my students to play a song out put by the tiny computer speaker.
That was also a musical instrument and that kid had talent.
#3 Dan Barker – Doesn’t the iPad have to move for the accelerometers to detect anything?
I still like mapping drum sounds to a MIDI keyboard.
I’ve played with this app at an Apple Store, if I ever get an ipad it will mostly be for this app.
I just went back in time and gave an iPad with Garageband, to every band member of all the best groups of the 70’s and 80’s.
Enjoy!
#5:
I tried it with my iPad 1 version and I imagine they have a z-axis thing going with extremely small values being sensed by the accelerometer. I simply touched the tom-tom and got a sound, and then barely tapped it a bit and it was noticeably louder. Sometimes, though, it didn’t take when I used the very tip of my finger, and then was just audible (in other words, more finger gave more sound more consistently).
I can see it now: live concerts will soon have performers on stage tapping their tablets. How will we know they’re not just finger-syncing?
There are some great old synthesizers like the Mellotron and legacy Korgs that cost a small fortune back in the day, they sound simply incredible! A bargain now on the iPad for $12.00 or less.
Who need a rock band when you have and iPad? 🙂 Looks easy but you don’t know how to play instruments, forget it. This requires skills.
Just more techno crap, in my opinion. If you think this syntho stuff is swell, fine. I prefer real instruments, played with actual talent and finesse. Musicians working together, not just some looping, multi-tacking and no variety. Sorry, all you misguided, dis-educated, easily satisfied lovers of this stuff. I’m not a vinyl-loving troglodite, just someone who appreciates fine art.
Re: Pedo: “do you want to destroy them faster than they did?”
Who are they that destroyed them?
I liked it. A real musician can make music with almost anything.
These posts flush the acoustic snobs.
#13 If you are saying nothing is like being there listening to the sound coming out of the instrument or the singer sing I’ll agree. Once you record music, I don’t care how you do it or what you play it back on it isn’t going to sound the same. Okay just going electronic changes things but half the time singers only sound great because the machine fixes what their singing coach couldn’t. Course there are still a lot more great voices than singing contracts.
Pedro, it beats walking around a mexican restaurant with a goofy hat and an ill fitting suit with dangles playing a big, cheap acoustic guitar for pesos.
Special Ed: At least the guitarist in the Mexican restaurant has a real guitar to play, and isn’t playing some soulless electronic touch pad.
Who needs an iPad when you have a musical instrument?
I play the female organ, that is something you can’t do on the iPad.
Narrow minded illegals like peedro can’t afford nice stuff let alone recognize it.
It’s just another instrument. It still takes a musician to make it work right . . . as a few on here have already said.
I liked it.
But will playing the iPad get you laid?
Turde? Is that French? I understand English isn’t your primary language. Good luck with your project. The authorities will be waiting for you.
I’m sorry I didn’t see your reply earlier, we’ve all moved on!
