1. bobbo, I'm not a Royalty guy says:

HA! I was all set to HATE this, but wound up agreeing. Not the income from the estates bit as that could fairly just be taken from them, but the tourism bit. Hey, money talks and BS walks.

Amusing they showed Mnt St Michael, a french property, as if it was UK owned. A rather gross error for touting something that was English and not Plastic. Mon Dieu!!

I’ve often thought we need a similar bifurcated Head of State/Ceremonies concept. The Presnedent “should” have enough serious duties not to have to meet and greet make public appearances and so forth. Always thought it was a good job for the VP. Makes me wonder how much thinking/time/study the Pres actually puts into any of the various laws/actions that are nominally “his.”

    Yea, verily.

  2. brm says:

I would pay more taxes to not support a royal family. On principle. Seriously.

  3. bobbo, I'm not a Royalty guy says:

Yea, and that would be a declining principle each year. Think of the money, think of them as pets. Be pragmatic.

  4. DickMNixon, I'm Tan Rested and Ready for 2012 says:

I have been living in London for 7 months now and find most brits like having a royal family, it makes them feel special.

America is crazy for this shit, the wedding is getting more play and airtime there then here.

And for once I agree with bobbo, they are pets, they just need to watch the inbreeding to avoid hip displacia

  5. envirotex says:

    Canny Minecraft reference.

  6. bobbo, I'm not a Royalty guy says:

Well, thank you Dick, I hope you aren’t being tricky.

Did make me wonder about how many other things I am “against” I would support if I got paid to do so. Dog Fighting came to mind immediately, but actually while I would never do it or watch it, I don’t really care. The point being:

I DON’T FORCE MY MORALITY ON OTHER PEOPLE.

Frankly, I don’t see any difference between dog and cock fighting and boxing or the rodeo.

They are just dumb animals. You figure it out.

  7. Dallas says:

Are there any good looking Kennedy’s around? They were close to Royalty and they were good looking too, for marketing purposes.

Skip Obama. Too soon for a black King.

  8. Pedro's Pet Donkey, says:

[Ed. – comment deleted for violation of posting guidelines]

  9. bobbo, I'm not a mindless insult guy says:

Good call on Pedro’s Donkey. He should have at least waiting until Pedro posted? Was that the violation?===because everything else he posted was accurate. ((Joke!))

Seems to me the guy made about the same comment mutliple times in the past. Maybe I missed them getting banned or you are actually reading your assigned threads?

Anyway, good job. Yes, I see the sword over my own head………

  10. admfubar says:

actually i always felt a little sorry for the royal family, their entire life is essentially an amusement park ride for the tourists.

  11. Ben-in-the-woods says:

shoot them and take their land.

  12. sargasso_c says:

America in fact does have a Royal Family. Complete with guards, castles and tax free status. But unlike the British Royal Family they do not have a problem with accession of heirs to the throne. We all love them and know their names. Mickey! Minnie! Donald! Goofy!

  13. McCullough says:

Sitting in a London Pub in 2001, being fed free drinks by the owner (winning!), I asked the question about how much the royals cost the good people of England. The answer: Oh, we stole that money from other countries centuries ago.

    Made sense to me.

    Winning!

  14. Rob Leather says:

Sorry, but that’s the most inane argument I’ve heard in quite some time.

Without the monarchy the money from the land would STILL go to Parliament and we’d save £40 million. Plus you fail to mention how much money Price Charles makes as pure profit (no tax) from the Duchy of Cornwall. It was £20m alone.

    http://tinyurl.com/3v2g2d7

As for tourists. I wasn’t aware the Queen met them all personally. France killed it’s Royal family. Yet Versailles is hugely popular.

But best of all, the “awesome” UK castle you show, haloed in sunbeams, is actually Mont San Michel, which is in Normandy, France. I assume you didn’t realise the difference between this and St Michaels Mount which is in Cornwall, UK. The later is smaller and has no spire on it’s church.

    Great job!

  15. Benjamin says:

Sure we don’t have a royal family to support. We can barely afford to pay for President Obama’s vacations.

  16. hfidek says:

wait a minute at 2:55 that place is in france its the mont saint-michel

  17. kaore says:

When he says UK’s castles are awesome, he’s actually showing Mont Saint-Michel Monastery… in France.

  18. alex says:

Slaves defending their slave-masters. Hilariously sad.

  19. Cursor_ says:

It is quite amusing that people still wish to see a well to do German family.

    Cursor_

  20. Traaxx says:

    So boobbutt,

If you vote you are forcing your morality on someone, if you support any law (what so ever) you are forcing your morality on someone. Morality=Laws=Society Values. Your morality may not be reflected by society and it’s laws, but judgment and morality are reflected in both.

The UK should get rid of the royals, we have enough elitist scum to last a life time just in the Pregressive Demoncrats / Commie / Repukiecans. Read a few biographies about the “pets” as you describe them. Sick, evil twisted people, everything a Demoncrat will love.

    Whatever………………………………
    Traaxx

  21. deowll says:

I’ll tell you exactly what the UK should do. They should decide for themselves and the people who aren’t citizens of the UK should bleep off.

Seriously, it isn’t any of our business. If the Brits want a royal family to gossip about and feel sentimental about it’s their business. If they decide to chop their heads off or confiscate their estates and turn them into paupers it is still their business.

  22. McCullough says:

#21. Agreed. Except I like “piss off” mo better.

  23. bobbo, all things are possible if anyone cares says:

#20–Traaxx==yes. Do you think anything else?

Whenever anyone votes, directly as with propositions, or indirectly thru representatives, or more indirectly thru opinion polls, to make a LAW that people may or may not do one thing or another, BY DEFINITION that is forcing morality on people thru the police power of the State.

Pray tell, what else is it?

Many such laws are necessary and good–like not murdering people.

but many such laws are not necessary and not good according to one morality or another. This is especially bad when the majority of people want one outcome but for various reasons the morality of a minority of people is what gets ENFORCED against everyone. Drug laws for instance. Prostitution for a closer case. Right to Choose as variously defined for another.

So Traaxx–pray tell, how is it anything else?

  24. Rob Leather says:

As somebody who actually LIVES in the UK and has lived the length and breadth of the country due to work. I can tell you that the vast majority of Royal Family supporters live within the Greater London area. The further North or West you move from London, the less “sentimentality” you’ll find. Until you’ll get to the point where they are downright unpopular.

Ever wonder why they never really travel that far outside London… Except abroad. There’s your answer
