  1. LibertyLover says:

#36, Yeah, we got us a 3/4 ton ourselves, with all the bells and whistles. Needed that $25,000 BONUS deduction for over 6k lbs.

Saved me $10,000 in tax money and I have a new truck.

A couple of years ago I bought an airplane and depreciated quite a bit of that, too.

THAT is how insane our tax code is.

Agreed. And government keeps spending like that money is still coming in. Sad.

  2. foobar says:

The US won’t cut military spending soon. There is a world view that the US is in decline and significant cuts (e.g. 25%) would only reinforce that view.

    Ego will trump common sense.

  3. Dallas says:

#33 It figures you couldn’t even agree that Congress wasting time on irrelevant, illogical legislation is wrong.

Can’t wait to sit on your death panel. I usually want to be foreman.

  4. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

#27–Jonesy==what do you THINK of this: “However, true Flat tax proponents necessarily contest the concept of the diminishing marginal utility of money and that a marginal dollar should be taxed differently.[3]” //// Why must a “true flat taxer” contest what is undeniably true? Isn’t that notion undeniably false?

I’m just about ready to stop watching Judge Napolitano on Fox Business. Its getting tiresome the arguments that tax = slavery. I guess as a “true libertarian” he must necessarily contest the concept of the social contract. Yes, I’ll just take my “income” and give nothing back for it. Actually, its too bad there was not a choice: the unregulated frontier. Imagine if we all did have a real choice? Don’t like paying taxes: fine saddle up and mosey on west.

All these theories and schools of thought are beneficial as TOUCHING STONES to keep in mind as one addresses the freedom of individuals and the needs of society. When ONE any philosophy is embraced to the exclusion of all other concerns: you got stupid on the hoof.

I’ve never studied flat tax. I can see graduated flat tax. It does make sense for “the working poor” to pay “something” so that idiot LIEberTARDS will stop braying about people with nothing paying nothing. A minimum amount and that assumes ALL TAXES are rolled into the notion. It does all come back to theories of social justice and social good and social utility.

You know, the Laffer Curve posits the maximum efficiency of tax at 70%.

S&P’s action today was good to see. Sad to see they aren’t all in jail for malfeasance in the run up to the 2008 meltdown.

What kind of society do you want to live in? One where poor kiddies go to school too hungry to learn? Is that what you want, or do you want to live in a society where you have a birthright to a fair shake regardless of who your parents were?

Thats the question. Make sure the philosophy you embrace answers this question the way you want====because most of them don’t. They are but fairy castles built on a primal self centeredness as if the philosopher were the only person that mattered. Yea, verily.

    I’ve got mine, screw you.

  5. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

Jonesy–I did spy the footnote there. Do you have a link to the referenced material?

  6. G2 says:

#40->”What kind of society do you want to live in? One where poor kiddies go to school too hungry to learn? Is that what you want, or do you want to live in a society where you have a birthright to a fair shake regardless of who your parents were?”

The latter. But I don’t want to be told to do that by those whom I have entrusted to take of it aren’t.

  7. Jonesy says:

    #41. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_tax

It’s worth a look, we need to try something different. Under a True Flat Tax, the rich, the poor, the middle class, the corps pay the same as everyone else. Isn’t that what you Libs are always bitching about?

Or would you rather stick with the Staus Quo?

  8. Mr. Fusion says:

    #34, LL

For instance, I could have had a $0 effective tax rate if I had chosen to buy a bunch of company trucks and let my employees drive them as perks.

    Not quite, but funny try.

  9. LibertyLover says:

#44, Start your own business and find out for yourself. Each one purchased, if over 6,000 lbs, can be depreciated (sometimes fully depending on the final cost). On top of the regular depreciation, you get a bonus depreciation of $25,000 for the heavy vehicles.

That depreciated value comes off of my taxable income. If you reduce your taxable income to 0, you pay no taxes.

This is what happens when they teach consumerism in school instead of economics and free enterprise.

Instead of trying to show how little you use your brain, how about showing how much of a man you are by telling us why you would sacrifice a bunch of kids for your wife.

  10. Mr. Fusion says:

    #27, Jonesy,

Funny, but it’ll never fly. Flat taxes and VAT are all regressive taxes. They do not consider the economic engineering that budgeting allows with income taxes. For example, 401(k)s lose their appeal to consumers, stock brokers and fund managers lose the customers, and companies lose the investors.

In case you neither knew nor cared, this is called “Fiscal Policy”. Your tea bagger buddies in Congress are using it to defund Planned Parenthood and NPR.

  11. LibertyLover says:

#43, No, that isn’t what they are bitching about. The want the top 1% to pay all taxes and everybody else gets off free. That is their definition of Freedom. That is their wet dream.

  12. LibertyLover says:

#46, State funded abortions are nothing more than Social Engineering.

Why don’t we give free face lifts to ugly people?

  13. Lakota Sue says:

#46. “Your tea bagger buddies in Congress are using it to defund Planned Parenthood and NPR.”

One can only hope. Did you know that Planned Parenthood’s roots are in eugenics, and racism.

    http://blackgenocide.org/sanger.html

I doubt it. I don’t want my money going to a eugenics program. I guess it’s the status quo then. Thats contrary to hope and change however.

  14. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

#43–jonesy==Thanks for the link. Not too quick on the uptake: calling one program “true” is a false distinction as if other programs are false or defective whereas the truth is all programs have a set of characteristics and results. Its the results that matter, not how true something is.

I think libs want a graduated income tax because higher taxes are more able to be paid by folks who have higher disposable income. One thing that should be the same is capital gains. No reason for passive income to be taxed at lower rates than working income==just more class warfare already won by the rich by the illiterate poor voting against their own self interests.

The bottom line will always be to match expenses to revenue or vice versa. This simple rule was violated by Bush drug program and two wars. Go to war: raise taxes to pay for it. Obama violated it via stimulus that was mostly tax cuts and pork and no stimulus at all.

Decide what kind of country you want, and pay for it. Stop lying about what your goals and programs do. Pukes demonstrably lie more about this than the Dumbos. In a two party system, that means:

The Republicans want to Kill America but they can’t do it without your vote.

  15. Dallas says:

#48 Demagogues did plenty. The focused attention from war, terror and fear to domestic issues. In fact they passed a Healthcare reform that has been kicked around for decades.

#49 Because unlike face lifts, abortions are a health issue. Dumb ass.

  16. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

Loser–are you sure you aren’t Alfie trying to objectively discuss financial policy? Ha, ha. Lets take two:

“The want the top 1% to pay all taxes and everybody else gets off free.” /// Complete BS. Why can’t you pukes make any balanced argument at all? Have to LIE about your opponents position to have any position of your own. Sadly, the lying does appeal to too many illiterate and poorly informed voters so that you have a political party based on this.

“State funded abortions are nothing more than Social Engineering.” /// Not funding abortions is also Social Engineering. See how that works?

And given you demonstrate how often you don’t understand the basics, and how often you BS LIE to have any position of your own:

Wake Up Fools and Losers. The Republicans want to Kill America but they can’t do it without your vote. The deeper question of why fools and Losers are even qualified to vote is social engineering with the worst consequences.

    Yea, verily.

  17. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

#50–Lakota Welfare Deadbeat==did you know that Indian culture has its roots in godless nature animism? More than the mere roots though, its actually the trunk, branches, and most of the leaves. Ha, ha.

And America has its roots in Slavery.

And what is eugenics except a choice free people should be allowed to make for themselves? If not, who should approve what births are allowed/mandated according to what principle?

    Silly hooman.

  18. Jonesy says:

Fusion – “For example, 401(k)s lose their appeal to consumers, stock brokers and fund managers lose the customers, and companies lose the investors.”

That says a lot, the fact that given the present circimstances, you would trust one single dime of your retirement fund to Wall Street.

Me, I cashed it in and paid off my mortgage while there was still time, the rest is in real assets, not a fake-ass piece of paper.

People are still in denial after all this time. Amazing.

  19. foobar says:

    Top ten tax charts.

  20. Lakota Sue says:

#54. bobbo- “Lakota Welfare Deadbeat==did you know that Indian culture has its roots in godless nature animism?”

I see, because I’m native American I’m a Welfare Deadbeat.

Take a deep breath, and educate yourself on Margaret Sanger and eugenics. It was the model for Hitler’s programs. Thats right, a liberal idea was embraced by Hitler and was partly responsible for the genocide in Europe. Stupid liberal racist, who will educate you?

  21. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

#57–Lakota==holy crap. A reasonable response, not considering the context. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough: the Indian culture HAS ITS ROOTS in welfare.

    Can you hear me now?

YOUR argument about eugenics and Hitler and PP is correct but goes to the meaning of what a “root” is. In words you might understand: its complete and utter bull shit, buffalo shit, or whatever root you want to roll around it.

Do you think women should have access to primary health care or not?===thats Planned Parenthood.

I will assume you are revolted by Hitlers enforced killing of undesirables as am I. In what way is this related to individual mothers electing to abort their fetuses? Can you recognize that the STATE forcing their views on people is equally present if it be killing them or in forcing them to give birth?

I thought the Sue had a long tradition of killing live born children with any given defect? Must be a huge cultural conflict for you.

Ha, Ha. Hitler is more like Tonto than the Planned Parenthood provision of individual choice to first trimester fetuses.

    Yes, its true.

  22. Lakota Sue says:

Bobbo- “the Indian culture HAS ITS ROOTS in welfare.”

What a fucking asshole you are. What choices did WE have.

Keep digging racist, that hole isn’t getting any smaller.

  23. highqham says:

This may tell you where it goes. But here’s how it goes:

For each tax dollar received, at least four congressmen each spend at least 30 cents of it.

  24. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

Lakota Sue = ha, ha. If you personally “hate” the stupidity of “root analysis” then why do you use it against Planned Parenthood?

Well, at least we are both being consistent: I don’t think the root of forced welfare says anything about the culture/value of the Lakota Souix, nor does the eugenics movement roots say anything about the culture/value of Planned Parenthood.

    But you do.

Might make you reevaluate your notion of what a “root cause” of anything really means?

Or do you want to be as stupid tomorrow as you were this morning.

Root, Root, Root – for the home team.

  25. Lou Minatti says:

Shut up and pay your taxes. Paper-pushers in DC are counting on you so they can retire at 55.

  26. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

Pedro==you are quick with the never ending allegation and call out but rarely do you ever follow up with any argument/analysis/link. You call everyone you disagree with a troll, a sheeple, or off their meds but we never know why. Pure personality posting like a little girl. What is your Facebook Account: “I like Paper Dolls?”

  27. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

#61–correcting myself, as Pedobear can’t: “root cause” is a viable often interesting concept/issue to be thought about/debated. “Has its roots in” hardly ever is. Too vague and undefined allowing for all kinds of mischief. (Get it? I crack myself up.)

I challenge anyone to set forth the argument that the Super Rich need more tax cuts while the poor, working, and middle classes need service cuts. Go ahead: make that argument.

If not,Wake Up Fools. The Republicans want to Kill America but they can’t do it without your vote.

  28. deowll says:

My data says that taking everything from the top 10% isn’t going to be enough to balance the budget. You can only do that once anyway because the ones that survive are going to do something to keep on surviving.

That means we either make massive cuts, and even the GOP is not trying to make enough cuts to actually balance the budget, or we all find out what it’s like to go over Niagara without a barrel. Considering the wisdom shown among the posters I’d lay money on the later happening.

  29. bobbo, Republicans are constantly LYING about EVERYTHING. says:

do-ill the brain deady Alfie clone==you got no data, just talking points. No one says “take everything” from anybody except sh*thead asstards like yourself you can’t argue the truth and must make up arguments to rail against.

I seen lots of commentary that says program cuts and a return to Clinton era tax policy ((and I’ll add with a heavy dash of tax enforcement and loophole closings)) would return us to solvency fairly easily.

I would also consider changing the entitlements but also note there is value in getting old folks retired as young as possible: it opens up the work force for younger people for instance.

Yes, pro’s and con’s to all we do.

Lying sacks of shit like do-ill will continue to vote Republican though==and there are so many of them. Same group that believes in miracles and that Jebus rode a dinosaur.

    Ha, ha. Silly hoomans.

  30. Publius says:

    >the cumulative cost of the two wars surpasses $1 trillion

    Source: http://www.usatoday.com/news/military/2010-05-12-afghan_N.htm

Wars are NOT included in that so-called National Defense pie slice. Wars are off-budget.

Add it up and your WAR PIE IS DOMINATING THE CHARTS. Protip: That’s exactly why they took wars off the budget during the Bush 2 admin.
