According to its description on the Apple App Store website, Decomposhop, a new application that allows users to track the putrefaction of their deceased loved ones in real time, will be available for download by grieving iPhone owners starting Tuesday.

“Decomposhop lets you import open casket photos, enter a date of death, and then watch over time as the face of a friend or family member slowly shrivels up beyond recognition,” read a description of the product, which applies a decay algorithm to replicate the deterioration of human remains from bloat to liquefaction to dry rot. “With this revolutionary, fully iPhone 4 compatible app, you can see if your father is still wearing the suit you buried him in and receive customized alerts when the bones really start to poke out. $3.99.”

Developers told reporters that an iPad version with enhanced graphics and optional olfactory simulator will be out in time for Christmas.

You can even get a full refund of your $3.99 if you dig up your loved one and discover that they look remarkably different from what Decomposhop shows.

Personally, I can’t wait for the optional olfactory simulator, because I never seem to encounter quite enough disgusting smells.

  2. Just Looking says:

    April Foo… no wait, WTF?

  3. emh924a says:

thats disgusting apple should yank that app pronto

  4. Dave3524 says:

    @emh924a

Why should apple ban an app because you consider it disgusting? Here’s an idea, you don’t like it don’t install it. Once you start censoring things you don’t agree with when does it it stop?

  5. Craig says:

Are you people REALLY that stupid?

The Onion is a parody news site. It’s humor you friggin’ morons.

  6. John says:

I was actually disappointed to find this was on the Onion, and thus not real. I might’ve paid 4 bucks to watch photos decay over time. Morbid? Maybe. Disgusting? Perhaps. But how many times did YOU watch 2G1C?

  7. bobbo, art is mostly flim-flam, much like economics says:

Do we need an app for that, or just wait for JCD’s next over saturated object d’art?

  8. chris says:

There is a Japanese company that is using electrically stimulated composites that mimic the variable nature of decomposing flesh.

  9. Animby says:

    # 5 Dave3524 said, “Why should apple ban an app because you consider it disgusting?”

Absolutely right, Dave. Apple fans depend on Steve to do that for them!

Bobbo – Did YOU send them that old photo of my ex-wife? For a moment, until I realized it was an Onion parody, I was in heaven…

  10. bobbo, can't we all just get along says:

Animby–I think you forget what a babe she was when you had your beer goggles on. No, that was the most recent photo I found of her. All I had to google was (ungrateful female “homo sapien” Animby) and that photo popped right out. There were two other babes but I picked the brunette.

  11. Animal Mother says:

Do they have an water immersion function? I like how putrid corpses turn into soap.

  12. birddog says:
