  2. Reagan says:

I’m really glad America brought peace, prosperity and democracy to the people of Iraq.

OK, enough of that crap, it’s time for the civil war(s), to see who’s going to replace Saddam.

  3. steelcobra says:

It isn’t Iraqis doing this, it’s several foreign terror groups who came to Iraq to cause havoc. A civil war isn’t going to happen because the Kurds, Shi’ites, and Sunnis all know that they aren’t really each others enemies at this point.

  4. GigG says:

The US made 3 major mistakes post invasion.

    1. Allowing that round of looting when we made it to Baghdad.
    2. Disbanding of the Iraqi Army
    3. Failure to seal the borders to stop outsiders coming in and causing problems.

Wasn’t that the exact area from the opening scene of Hurt Locker?

If this one event were to happen in America, we would be going insane with new civil liberty restrictions. Yet this is a daily occurrence in many parts of the world, and people go on with their lives.

It worries me less that some of these bombings could happen in America, and much more the results to our freedom because of that.

The “Patriot Act” will look quaint compared to what would happen if a half dozen smaller bombings like this one were to take place in America.

A nice commentary on America’s response to this kind of thing is here: http://www.salon.com/technology/ask_the_pilot/2011/01/25/moscow_airport_bombing_aftermath/index.html

Islamic extremists don’t just hate the West. They hate the locals if the locals don’t embrace the extremists’ view of a totalitarian theocratic state.

Atheists don’t like any religion, extreme or otherwise. But we don’t go out terrorize and blow up people and things because you might be religious.

    Stalin was an atheist.

  14. steelcobra says:

    #12: Reagan

No, Stalin was personality cult leader. There’s a big difference. Communism became his religion, with himself as the divine savior to the people.

Since you seem to be a visitor from an alternate universe, I should let you know things happened slightly differently here in this particular reality.

Stalin banned all religions and persecuted and even executed the religious.

Communism is not a religion except, apparently, in the United States. It’s a flawed economic system but stretching things, I suppose you might almost be able to call it an anti-religion.

Mr. Steel didn’t seem to give a shit about Communism either. It was just a handy cover for an incredibly brutal dictatorship.

I seriously doubt he thought he was a “divine savior” to the people, since he feared them so thoroughly, he murdered an awfully large percentage of them.

Thanks for the insight into your universe, though. Much appreciated.
