The World is sinking: Dubai islands ‘falling into the sea’
The islands were intended as the ultimate luxury possession, even for Dubai. But the World, the ambitiously-constructed archipelago of islands shaped like the countries of the globe, is sinking back into the sea, according to evidence cited before a property tribunal.

The islands were intended to be developed with tailor-made hotel complexes and luxury villas, and sold to millionaires. They are off the coast of Dubai and accessible by yacht or motor boat.

I personally know folks in Massachusetts USA who are trying to keep their seafront (Ice Age built) property from being slowly reclaimed by the sea. Good luck to them.

“You can’t bullshit the ocean. It’s just not listening, you know.” – David Crosby

(also, if you live up on the side of a mountain, you’ll have wonderful opportunities to take over after the great tsunami subsides!)

  2. olive oil says:

When oil gets cheap we go slow on alternative energy r&d. The price of a barrel of oil does even begin to capture the true unpublished cost. The question should be ” How much longer do we want to kiss islamic rectums?” All the cheap foreign oil in the world can’t cover up that taste. Damn the cost of a barrel, get the hell off of and away from foreign oil.

  3. f_w says:

They never have heard of erosion it seems..
Sand beaches(and other soft soil) are doing it “fast” all over the place.
Is why you always uses plants to retain the soil.
else the wind and waves will eat it up and wash em away.
    Like sand castles.

But why are not artificial islands built with for example waste from tunnels that are made, or those hills that gets removed when you make roads or rail?
